the only hint I can give you towards a precise timeline is it was about a year after reports started coming out that RBC and CIBC would straight up close your account if they got wind you were doing crypto poo poo, and confiscate your money - this was pretty early on in the whole btc thing I don't know if closing your account still occurs but I still make bitcoin jokes when I go in for those "financial checkups" they have me come in for to attempt to sell me finance products and the cringe on Mary's face is absolute gold every single time
