I'm kind of with you but I think it's a question of degree. That cat getting stuck in the gate is quite funny and it is not being really harmed. An animal being really freaked out like that monkey seeing the stuffed toy tiger isn't that funny. It got a real shock. That's just cruel. (It's also deliberate as opposed to accidental, which is also a meaningful distinction).

lots of people do. digging a pit isn't that hard and putting your trampoline in a pit is a better plan than adding a couple extra feet of arm-breaking velocity to the thing what launches you in the air

brace yourself for incoming lols - surprising nobody, PC Gamer reports that the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 is a total buggy janky mess. it will likely be patched up in the next 6 months but pray for all the furious gamers who will play it on release

https://www.pcgamer.com/cyberpunk-2077-review/

also to a normal person on the outside of things a score of 78/100 is pretty good but to a trve gvmer fan you may as well have just slapped their mother with a score anything less than perfect

quote:

Too bad almost every serious dramatic beat was undercut by some kind of bug, ranging from a UI crowded by notifications and crosshairs failing to disappear, to full-on scripting errors halting otherwise rad action scenes. What should've been my favorite main quest venture, a thrilling infiltration mission set in a crowded public event, was ruined by two broken elevators. I had to reload a few times to get them working.

The most absurd bug might've been when some children spawned in front of a timed shooting contest I entered with a friendly nomad. I couldn't shoot anywhere near the children because my weapon automatically raised, so I just sat there and let the timer run out as my buddy talked poo poo.

More often the bugs are audiovisual tics, like the sound of a car loudly peeling out wailing on during a long drive as passenger with an NPC, a character passing through solid elevator doors, or a copy of Johnny's cigarette hanging in the air in front of me while he smokes another and goes on about what a coward I am. They're the kind of thing I can squint through here and there, but there wasn't a single quest in which something wacky didn't happen.

Even the final scene in the closing moments of my ending featured cars spawning in the direct path of an NPC-driven vehicle. A nice, poignant drive and conversation seasoned with a head-on collision visible only to me. Even after installing the Day 0 patch, Night City still feels like it's barely holding together at times. The good news is that all this stuff can be fixed, but it also means the ideal Cyberpunk 2077 is delayed again, in spirit.

Witcher 3 was a buggy mess when it launched too. I remember playing it for a few hours and stopping because the UI was so bad. When I picked it back up a year later because everyone kept telling me how great it was I had to relearn how to play because of all the changes they made for the better.

Ever since they got the ability to patch games and use consumers as play testers companies have been releasing broken poo poo.

i do applaud the brave souls who pre-ordered this knowing it would be a total mess and in fact anticipating that short window of utterly broken gameplay before it gets patched. you can really only experience games like this in a half finished state before they are patched forever, since it is hard these days to get a physical disc which forever has the 1.0 release on it

They don't. If you sort by score you can see what they're using. That scores are increasingly useless is a very different discussion.

It was probably near unplayable and this is as close as they could get it. There'll probably be some ridiculous 500gb patch released in the first month or something.

To bridge the gap between

"we made this playable enough to record promo videos and do demos so long as the person in control knows exactly how to use it to not showcase any of the massive number of launch stopping bugs"

and

"not so broken that people will wait for a patch instead of getting a refund"

1 was so buggy it almost sank the company, and needed to be re-released with about 80% (I think) of the game re-done. 2 was better but still needed a re-release to be good.

in terms of software development, underestimates and pressure to release. They should just delay it again, but consumers and the board hate that
