Tbh I didn't even notice the cover because I'm pretty sure I've seen it all before. Like I'm 90% sure it's all just old art reused even down to the labels. I was so disappointed that they didn't draw something new or use art I don't see all the time like the PS1 game cover, that I just glossed over bored cheesecake Faye.

And prices are going up on a lot of collector hobbies across the board, particularly ones that involve collecting vintage in addition to new stuff. Retro games are a mess where I don't even see the variety of crappy lots I used to on Ebay, and due to a confluence of factors even Pokemon cards are insane right now. It's great if you've got poo poo to sell but it sucks being priced out of your collecting hobbies. I'm hoping that once people go back to work and don't have time for this stuff anymore the prices will come down/there's a big sell off.

Cowboy Bebop is one of those rare animes that's not all little girl panties and "lol monkey cheese random!" bullshit. But then the woman in the crew still wears almost no clothes and has huge boobs.

Also, One Giant Hand rules.

Yeah Cowboy Bebop is one of the few animes non-anime fans can say they like without being embarrassed. Like Akira or Miyazaki’s movies.

Agreed, I've heard it put as the anime that people who hate anime like. It gets sold as bounty hunters in space but it's really more of an interesting character study in a nearish sci-fi future imho. Excellent world building as well.

I was going to say that wasn’t that long ago but wow yeah it was. Didn’t help that it was Hot Topic doing exclusives on them so you get some low prints and flipper prices.

I was new to records when those music on vinyl reissues were coming out and thought $50 was outrageous for a record, but now they’re like $200. If I only knew. Omar’s talked about doing reissues within the last year but then *gestures at everything*

it's kinda wild to me how much mid-2000s alt/indie rock has either not gotten a repress, or gotten a repress so limited it's just as rare as the original, if not moreso. I realized all the music I loved in high school was missing from my collection so started digging through Discogs, and there's just a <2008 phantom zone before vinyl started coming back where nothing is available for less than $40. Franz Ferdinand, TV On the Radio, We Are Scientists, Bloc Party, Hot Chip...

I'm actually pleasantly surprised Sub Pop has the first three The Shins albums in stock, at least.

Speaking of Mars Volta, some time ago (mid-late 2000s) I got the Tremulant EP. I played it once or twice and it wasn’t my bag.

https://www.discogs.com/The-Mars-Volta-Tremulant-EP/release/128211

This is one of the less valuable versions, yellow marble with insert but no band photo. Unfortunately at some point in the early 2010s, some water damage beset about half a dozen of my records, and this was one of the casualties.

One day I’ll get the vinyl itself cleaned, and then I’ll play it again. But there’s just enough damage to the jacket and insert to reduce any value I could get out of it.

For the record: Other records on the mysterious water damage list~

Gnarls Barkley, The Odd Couple
Arcade Fire, Neon Bible
Wolf Parade, Apologies to the Queen Mary
Neil Young, After the Gold Rush
Neil Hamburger, America’s Funnyman

Those last two had the original inserts and all of these were in pristine condition.

A vacuum cleaning system would clear that worry right away. Dunno what you’re using but it’s a godsend.

I’ve fixed some water damaged sleeves in the past. Depends on the cardboard stock and the damage level. I cut down one of those record mailer fillers to fit inside, spritzed the damaged area with water to make it pliable but not soaked, wrapped it with a thin towel to get any excess water and then sandwiching it with two same size plastic cutting boards then I just stack heavy books on it. Leave it that way for a couple days to a week. I get rid of most of the major wrinkles, probably can’t do much to help if it damaged the coloring or ink or any other sort of special treatment done to the cardboard of the sleeve but at least it gets some of the issues sorted.

It really depends on the kind of cardboard and treatment it’s gotten. If you’re trying to preserve the edges just make sure the mailing slips were packed tightly and fit appropriately enough to get the shape just a bit bigger than the original size.

i got my new vinyl shelf in from etsy yesterday! it's way sturdier than i expected, honestly. the one downside of the milk crate-style construction is you have to be careful placing records on the shelf, to make sure they don't get pushed out a gap in the back or fall into one of the gaps on the shelf, but the upshot is that it's like half the price of a traditional solid wood shelf. the wood is also not varnished(?) which makes it a bit rough, which makes me think i should probably get record sleeves for the rest of my records to protect them from scraping against the wood
