Wonder Woman 84 was entertaining. I’ll say it wasn’t as strong as the first but still a very good movie and it’s a shame the studio decided to punt and not hold out for the global theatrical release and watch it make two billion dollars. We watched Soul with the kids on D+ and it too was very good and had some really excellent scenes and dialogue.

Some ten plus years ago the fountain pen thread turned me on to the wet shaving thread. I went with a double edge safety razor, badger brush and whatnot. That's pretty rough for a vaccine but better than the alternative. I wonder if these symptoms are what my dip-poo poo friend was referring to last night when he said people are getting COVID a couple days after the vaccine.

See, I disagree. The first fight scene was super corny and I liked it. But they forgot that was their goal about halfway through. The fight with the huntress wasn't corny at all, and was super dark. They did a good job with the invisible plane.

And yeah, Pedro was the best thing. Low bar too trip over, but he at least had some dynamic. Barbara could have been done so much better.

All in all, it was a clumsy and long movie. Glad I didn't pay for it.

It's gotta be something along those lines. The vaccine provokes an immune response that teaches your body how to fight off COVID.

That said, my wife's only symptom after getting vaccinated was a sore arm for a few days. I guess you're mileage may vary.

Yes, the wholesome scene where the bad guy who just really wants to be loved realizes he's doomed his child to be annihilated by a nuclear missile, afraid and alone.

Or, you know, the one where the nerdy girl gone bad is bad because she kicks the poo poo out of a guy who tried to rape her.

And if you stick around to the credits you get a cameo about as on-brand for the tone of the end of the movie as Adam West showing up in The Dark Knight.

If "comic book" means invent rules for the MacGuffin and then toss them aside, sure.

It's only nine minutes shorter than Blade Runner 2049, a proper slow burn of a movie with better visuals than WW84 could ever dream of. It's five minutes shorter than Endgame, a movie trying to tie together at least 19 different leading characters.

Electric razors always gave me razor burn.

The head get replaced every 6 mos or so. it has a stupid proprietary charging connector but uses 5V so it was usb converted so that I can charge it from a battery bank/any usb outlet. After shaving, run over any missed spots with a razor and its good for three or so days.

Just bought a phillips multigroom 7000 trimmer since the nimh one I had finally crapped out after a decade. The old one would only let me use about 1/2 the blade before stalling out. The new one doesn't give a poo poo. Razors/close shaving causes rashing so I don't bother.

Let us know how that Lenovo works out...I am tempted but I don't know if me and the kids would use a smart display...never thought I'd be using Alexa devices like I do so...

It's really not much of a "smart display" - can't do anything with video on it, the screen is strictly for the clock, clock functions, and skipping songs. It's really more of an alarm clock that happens to have Google Assistant for audio, and can show various clock faces + use Google Photos for your background. It also has Bluetooth, though you have to tell it to turn it on before you can connect to it (for those apps without Chromecast support). Functionally, it's not much different from the Lenovo Smart Clock Essential (which uses an LED segment display), except the Essential version has a night light on the back of it. It does claim to have a "sunrise" function that starts 30 minutes before your alarm goes off (where it slowly cranks up the display brightness), but it seems like that only works for AM alarm settings. I work nights, the setting doesn't seem to do anything for PM alarms.

It's essentially a Google Home Mini with a nice looking clock on the front of it - you can't play videos on it or load apps (easily, anyway... looks like XDA has been playing with it a bit). I'm managing to annoy the poo poo out of the SO by saying "hey google, turn off the living room TV" to it.... or "play archer on the living room TV" since the Rokus are linked to the Google Home app (and I renamed them from Living Room/Bedroom Roku to Living Room/Bedroom TV). The TVs aren't linked in any way, but the Rokus can issue power on/off commands over HDMI. :v: SO hasn't set up Google Assistant on their phone, otherwise they could do the same to me (it recognizes up to 6 different voices).

I won't invite Alexa into my home.

Pfizer or Moderna? We're supposed to be getting Moderna at work, though I'm not sure how set in stone that is (I know the pharmacy staff already have access to it though). Whenever it's made available to us, I was planning on taking it whenever I get off work and have 2 days off following, just in case I do wind up with side effects.

I've had side effects from one flu shot (knocked me on my rear end for a few days) out of many, and from the pneumococcal vaccine (felt like rear end for about 2 days). Just feel run down and stay in bed when I have side effects.

Not Wolverine posted:

Did you compare the Lenovo Smart Clock to a Google Home Hub? If you're concerned about privacy, the Google Home Hub does not have a built in camera. Unfortunately, this also means it can't do whatever Google is calling their version of Apple Facetime. I am not aware of any sales on the Google Home Hub right now, but I like the idea of Google hardware better simply because I think it's more likely to be supported for longer. I have 3 Google home mini smart speakers listening to everything I do, at least at the moment I still have privacy in my bathroom. I really liked it when I had a subscription to Google Music but I felt I didn't need it. I have a large collection of my own MP3s, but I don't think the home mini can play my files.

I just look forward to going back to my lousy, crappy retail job tomorrow where I will at least be around people (young teenagers) who will fake being friends with me.

The AT&R RV thing is pretty hosed up. I guess this could be a foreign terrorist, I just think it was internal. If it was foreign, I would expect them to hit a more high profile city like NYC or LA, unless they just really hate country music. Was there anything else of value like a bank or big office building nearby? I am surprised that it took out 911 service for such a large area, they should have redundant capabilities. At the very least, I'm sure 911 call centers have their own redundant power source and redundant radios if necessary, but I guess you cant make a redundant AT&T data center. Don't they have communication lines from another provider, like maybe Verizon or the local Cable monopoly?

There's no camera on the clock, and it has a physical switch to disable the microphone. Unfortunately, it runs Android Things as its OS, which is depreciated, so there's no telling if it'll ever see any updates again. But there's apparently a small number of people who've managed to load modified OS images on it?

I didn't compare it to the Home Hub, though looking now, there's a $30 difference between them (I think we even sell the Home Hub at work). That's a bit more than I wanted to pay right now, and that would have been overkill for the bedroom. I just wanted a new alarm clock, and the sale price dropped it low enough that it was worth considering since it also acts as a Google Assistant speaker. Annoyingly, the pull down menu switches between good morning/good night routines on Google Assistant based on the time of day and NOT based on your alarm time (I wake up at 8:30-9:00pm, work from 10pm-????, go to bed around 1pm), but I can just say good morning google and get my routine started (lights, weather, news brief, traffic)..

As far as redundancy, it's likely most of the major providers run through that area with fiber. The shockwaves from the bomb likely destroyed all of the fiber in that area, which would take out a lot of redundancies. They've already identified a possible suspect (IT guy with possible 5G :tinfoil:)

Retail... I feel you, except all the young'uns at my store are up front (baggers, cashiers) or on the side (curbside - personal shoppers). My dept is mostly grouchy old fucks, except for 3 guys in their early 20s (I refer to two of them as Dumb and Dumber, since they're always stoned and.... not very smart in general). The rest of us in my department are anywhere from 30 to 68.

The last one I had lasted for years just cleaning it periodically. Had to replace it when I dropped it on the tile floor, and the new one didn't feel any better, exactly the same as far as cutting when I thought it would be better but I guess it just showed that the blades and foil on the old one were just fine with regular cleaning. I just use soap and water and an old toothbrush to clean out the blades.

The one I got to replace it I've had for probably three years now and have just been cleaning it regularly. I'm honestly not sure when you need to change the foil or blade, I guess when it's pulling your hairs instead of cutting them but I've never had that problem with the Panasonic.

I have both a Jagger and a butt-load of derby blades and use disposable triple blade pivots as well.

The triple pivots destroy the safety razor in quality of shave, no question, but a quick shave in the shower with an electric has an appeal especially if it's good.

Ingrowns really aren't much of an issue anymore as I've gotten older (when I was younger it was certainly a thing).

Keep in mind your skin has to get acclimated to an electric razor, to me people saying it burns their skin just didn't use it long enough. It will burn at first for awhile, but aftershave/lotion helps with that. After awhile once your skin acclimates your skin won't burn and you won't need anything after.

I use the Merkur HD or hefty or whatever it is called. I love it. Edwin Jagger badger brush and proraso cream. I tried some shave soaps. They were alright. I follow a similar method. Soak my brush in hot water while showering. I’ve got a small stainless insulated bowl that I use for my lather.

I used to use derby blades but once I got the technique I switched to feathers and those are the best most unforgiving blade.

I used electric razors for my life up until the switch to safety razors. They all sucked. Left me with terrible ingrown hairs and razor burn. There is nothing redeeming about them.
