Took me like 10 minutes to wrap my head around that idea. So these cards can both be warped (if you have valkyrie) and they trigger an effect when you warp them? And the valkyrie warp ability applies for both when the card itself is warped and future cards that you valkyre warp into play if initial card is still in play?

what horror the gas

I don't think it would trigger on other warps, it's just "this card has warp if you have a valkyrie" and "this card does X special thing when you warp it". Like if you have Watchwing Support in play and you Warp a Deathwing you would get the warp text on the Deathwing, but not the Support effect.

I guess even we're limited to Valkyries in this expansion, it's meant to be a modular [Unit Type] Warp thing. So you could have Grenadin Warp, or Minotaur Warp, or whatever. Hell maybe even a shadow card with "Primal Warp" for auxiliary multi-faction support. It's pretty clever!

Balance Patch announced. Not much happening. a single nerf, a couple buffs and some slight changes to unit types.

Ice Elemental (from Emblem of Linrei) is a 2/1 down from a 3/1

and of the buffs, the only one that saw any play, Mighty Strikes has its amplify changed from 3 to 2.

Hit rank 20 Expedition with this stupid list today somehow. Warning, it folds immediately to attachment removal. Somehow none of the decks I played against had it. And that mono shadow list with 4 Dichro's is really bad against it.

well that's certainly a new combo

Why is every deck running 4x Dichro's Ruin. It's a fairly niche card that does nothing about half the time. Just won with Sling vs 2x Dichro's. Just held Sling in hand and he didn't have removal to answer 5 mana 6/6's. Then used Sling to clear blockers and kill him once his life got low.

I think it's only good main deck if your deck has card draw to make up for when it's a dead card.

for the few of you still playing, this draft format is quite good with the new set. I'm digging it anyway. Just had a 7-2 with this:

The grafters are all very good and have opened up market shenanigans for draft like never before, and there's a lot of nice synergies among the colors.

The market is absolutely viable in draft, it's definitely something to keep in mind if you've only drafted Merchant/Smuggler sets before. You will quite reliably pick up multiple market-access cards that are on-rate even if you never use the market access, so you're leaving value on the table if you ignore the market entirely.

IMO cards that are bad most of the time but sometimes excellent go up a bit in the pick order compared to cards that are mediocre but playable all the time, since having one or two silver bullets that you can market up when relevant is super helpful. Slap in a power, a couple of silver bullets, and one late-game value card that didn't quite make the cut for the maindeck and you've got an A+ limited market.

I haven't had a successful draft in like two sets but the first draft I did of this set was this, and I went 7-1

Yeah market is super accessible, there's a lot of cards with incidental market access. I was hitting mine 2-3 times per game in this deck.

Fatal Misstep did work, Blackout the Skies was a blowout exactly once. Wirechewer did some decent work, and Metalfang is an absolute bomb. In 8 games I never actually played Burn Out or Beacon of War, oddly enough.

4 Kairos' Choice (Set7 #151)

1 Grodov's Stranger (Set8 #54)
1 The Speaking Circle (Set10 #404)

1 Novaquake Titan (Set3 #100)

It doesn't have enough discard to reliably pull something from the void on turn 4, but it doesn't fold to most aggro and intimidates midgame boards into a standstill. Usual win condition is pulling a charging Novaquake from the market and smashing face while bouncing the other guy's units, but it can easily win through ramping out fatties or just attrition as well.

So shadow etchings doesn't seem to have an influence requirement to swap market cards right now. And I had an ultimate not trigger properly with mandrakes. Game seems kinda buggy at the moment.

Also mandrakes and valks are both incredible hard decks to pilot.

bamhand posted:

I know a lot of people on the reddit are SO MAD about Mandrakes in EX right now, but I think Jund Valks is just as good, if not a smidge better against the field at large now that things have settled down a little bit.

Are you playing just Xenan? Or the splash primal for the Old Lady?

I've been playing combrei relics equalize on ladder the last couple of days to fairly good success. Speaking Circle might be my favourite card in a while because you can just kinda put any mid/control shell around it and you just basically have a competitive deck. It's weird how it isn't an overwhelmingly powerful card or anything, it just compliments everything.

bamhand
Apr 15, 2010
Yeah just Xenan. I feel like expedition has fixing problems for 3 influence decks. Valks, Combrei control, and Mandrakes are the three decks to beat right now. And Valks sometimes just flounders and does nothing because of influence issues. But when it goes off, boy does it go off.

bamhand
Apr 15, 2010
Just made it into expedition master. Played Mandrakes for the final leg. I played Elysian spells with Krull, Valks, and Mandrakes. Mandrakes felt the most consistent of the 3. I cut out the 3/5 silence guys and a send the agent for 3 exploits. Exploit is WAAY too strong not to play. Otherwise list is what's featured on Eternal Warcry. Also, as I noted, etchings is still busted at the moment. You can get a market card as long as you have a shadow unit to tap, doesn't matter if you have the influence or not. So that tilted the games a little bit more in my favor. Though I also pulled the wrong market card something like 30% of the time. When in doubt, get removal. Don't be greedy and grab shoals.
