I thought this was some kind of Ebenezer Scrooge joke, but no, she later took her laptop into his office and he was there. Wouldn't even make eye contact with anybody and kicked her out of the office. Apparently he's "devoting all of his free time to getting Trump re-elected". My sister-in-law talked to my wife later, said that things have been really bad for months and he basically just talks about Trump since the election. He also cried himself to sleep the day after the election, which is a lol but also pretty terrifying.

I had to talk my gen-X, Catholic brother off the ledge after Trump lost, reminding him that an octogenarian, life-long centrist Catholic was going to be president. He insisted we were headed for full communism and socialism (he's not smart, he's a trump supporter remember) and I probably shouldn't have laughed at him as much as I did but holy poo poo these people have hosed their own brains so badly. He is the only one in my immediate family who was actually on welfare when his daughter was first born, benefits that were greatly needed during that time in his life. He thinks you can just decide to not work and get an awesome lifestyle paid for by Uncle Sam. His situation was different, of course. He really deserved it but these other "welfare queens" don't.

Oh yeah, he's racist but won't admit it. Just like 99.9% of trump supporters.

He put up a really good front for a couple of years, even had me fooled. Then he got engaged to her and started slowly changing, like he had won her over and just started giving up any pretense of being a human being. My mother-in-law doesn't see it since this dude ticks all the boxes of "good son in law" since he has a job, house, and can fake a personality around her.

Also I don't wanna derail the thread any further but he works for his family business and my SiL also works there, so she's absolutely kind of trapped right now. She's an accountant so she'd be able to find something, but I can understand why it might be terrifying for her to break away from him.

Depends on where you grow up; a lot of people like to think it's just olds that support Torump/vote Republican, but there are a shitload of younger people that get indoctrinated with the same bullshit. I had the misfortune to live in Florida a few years back, and among the people I worked with were a bunch of early twentysomethings, who all listened almost exclusively to rap/hip-hop music, smoked weed, and were absolutely 100% chuds to their core. They all acted like they'd won the loving lottery when Tumpp won in 2016. I'd say I wished I could have seen their faces this election year, but that'd mean having to go back to Florida, and fuuuuuuuuuuck that.

Yeah, he's in rural PA and very isolated. Never had a job outside of his family business, no clubs or anything in college. I think he could easily have avoided contact with a diverse group of people.

My wife and I throw a Halloween party every year and he didn't show up for our 2019 one, I wonder now if it's because we dared to have a diverse friend group.

Never really close enough to be friends, but I got along with him well enough. Doesn't really break my heart but my sister-in-law rules and my wife is heartbroken to know her sister's in a terrible marriage at 25.

I think they may have been magical coins of some sort, and acquiring enough would allow him to cast a magical spell. If anyone is more versed in Q Anon let me know if this tracks. Also yeah they may have been Trump coins lol.

I don't experience any shadenfreude at these kinds of stories because my marriage falling apart is probably the thing I fear most, but they do make me feel a lot more secure about that. I know this is the LOL thread, but nothing will get fixed until this gets fixed. Rural America and Urban America have been played against each other so that both sides feel they have nothing in common with the other, and we currently lack a vision of America that we can all share, and so, we will continue down the shitter as "we the people" infight ourselves to death while the rich get richer and the powerful get more powerful. A corn farmer in Iowa and a bus driver in the Bronx have a shitload more in common than either of them think they do.
