You're not wrong, but that was one of the biggest failures of the Obama presidency. No one besides Madoff was held responsible for the 2008 crash, let alone any war crimes from 9/11/Iraq, and it was such a defeating feeling of "Why don't they have to be held accountable?" I know, rich, powerful, white, etc. Still it would be nice for Trump to be held reponsible, even if it's just to be held as a thin veneer of "we're not going to allow this kind of poo poo to happen again". I dream, Oxy. I dream.

I guess the one possible path for Convicted Felon Donald Trump is that maybe no one with any sort of power will want to defend him anymore. No national elections for a couple of years and he may have just had a hand in losing you the Senate, why not blow him off now when it'll be forgotten the next time you job comes up for a vote? Considering Trump's track record at doing anything, he'll likely fail and drop far enough off the radar that the chuds move onto the next right wing populist, but it's such an easy job, he might succeed at which point he'll still own the Republican party 2/4 years from now.
