You get people like Tom Verducci waxing poetic about how they hold the weight of the world in their hands and the responsibility is unbelievable and so on

bawfuls posted:I’ve seen ballots I generally agree with in the past. But the details are ultimately irrelevant because everyone will have a different subjective view on these things. What would be improved by 6 guys at the HoF deciding instead of 400 writers? It would still be the subjective opinion of a small group of people. Oh absolutely, but I guess what I'm asking is how a Hall of Famer can be measured at all; I understand everyone has their own rules, and if there's enough crossover, deciding on a HOF-er is a good decision when you can get so many crazy people to agree. The problem is that so many writers don't publicize how they decide or how they vote. I'm fine with blank ballots as long as we understand why. I had my own feelings on what a HOF-er is, but after a while, it just didn't matter when you had people enshrined who were clearly not up to the high bar just a few years previous.

Yeah the categories of BBWAA voter now appear to be: -extremely self important -trolls looking for attention -old guys carrying out a crusade over steroids -people complaining about having to make subjective decisions -people who say they don’t care/the process is bad so they refuse to participate Presumably there are a few who just vote and don’t make a big stink about it?

Yeah it's just how much teams have spent on MLB contracts for FA's and does not reflect that the Cubs and Pirates have shipped out players, or the Cards and Cubs declining options/arb, etc.

Lmao at his stats from last year though, gotta be some of the worst luck I've ever seen. 37.8% HR per fly ball percentage! The inflated .341 BABIP and 59% LOB percentage almost seem normal in comparison. The spread between his ERA (9.65), FIP (7.76) and xFIP (4.15) is also something else. Either its low sample size craziness or he became the pitching equivalent of Job last year.
