But then they see all the leather and OMG ELECTRONICS doodads. They were REALLY nice cars for their day, but good loving luck finding parts now.

My most optimistic is that you'll see them for sale at $5k but posted for a long time, and they actually sell for $3k. Scarcity and nostalgia. Even a relatively benign car, like an amc ambassador or a ford pinto has eclipsed its original msrp given enough time. The car in question has less than 20k miles, stored in a garage. I am starting to see things like XJs, 88-98 chevys, box caprices, cadillac fleetwoods, random 70s cars and buick roadmasters start to climb. In todays crossover only market, eventuality an unusual sedan from the 90s will stand out. Might take another 20 years but still. 15 years ago who would have thought an e30 325is would be a $15,000 car in decent shape.

Collateral GME effect: I was just talking to a buddy of mine at another major retailer. His stock went down 15% today, because the hedge fund holding GME shorts also held a huge amount of his company's stock. So the hedge fund sold all their holdings to free up capital, tanking the stock price of my buddy's company. poo poo's weird, yo.

Those are some good points and I don't follow actual car sales close enough to think I know better. It's wild to me that's a 20 year old car too, still looks fresh enough to be a 5-10 year old car, nothing at all like how a 70s car looked in the 1990s. Or a 50s car in the 70s. Goddamn I haven't seen more than one or two box caprices in the last few years, and a rounded cop caprice will turn my head they're so rare.

I love that you used sofa king, that's my fave and some people don't get it until they say it out loud. Had a scare today. I close my store at 9:30 and while I'm counting my draw and stuff this guy shows up at 9:35 or so and starts banging and pulling on the locked front door and yelling. I was like dude we're closed! And he wouldn't stop until I said I'm about to call the cops. loving dickhead, I think he must have been drunk. There's a store a 20 second drive away that closes at 10, fucker. I wish I took video. Also gently caress anyone that comes right at closing time, I never do that

We close at 4:00 specifically to avoid as much local business as we can. It’s just not our business model. I make a point when anyone asks our hours on the phone ‘we leave at 4:00’.

There's no reason to wait til the last second to get smokes or a soda or whatever, dicks. Oh yea and especially if it's a food place, people that wait til closing are the biggest assholes for that.

Ether Frenzy posted:500 shares of NOKIA on the memetrain shitpost stonks skyrocket (upward)! Don't be greedy. Take a decent win and walk away. That's how I scored 100% some years ago on random oil exploration* stocks, I think it was Seabird and African Petroleum Corporation. I walked away with a solid win, my colleague never recouped his investment in them. *I refuse to invest in fossil fuels etc. now, but back then I didn't give a poo poo. Edit: I really want to reiterate this: Never second-guess a win. Take it and walk away with a profit. Don't sit there afterwards, looking at the graphs like a doofus, thinking about what could have been. You cannot predict the future and you cannot extrapolate past performance into future performance. A win is a win. KozmoNaut fucked around with this message at 09:44 on Jan 28, 2021 |

I'm with you - a win is a win. I am very conservative and there's no free lunch, I'm the guy who enjoys gambling at the casinos by putting $5 on the bar and getting a drink back 100% of time.

Best odds in the house! Which reminds me. My condo is valued at ~1.8-2.0 million DKK right now. My favorite bar in central Copenhagen just came up for sale for 1.5 million DKK plus 23k DKK/month in rent. The main guy wanted to do something else with his life now, probably also sick and tired of being closed down. Turnover in a normal year before lockdown was ~4 million DKK. The hardest part would be explaining to my girlfriend that we'd have to sleep under the bar KozmoNaut fucked around with this message at 09:56 on Jan 28, 2021 |

When I read/hear about these new stock market kids/reddit invovment and the worship of elon - they might as well be speaking in greek - I have no idea what happened with gamestop and there's way too much slang being slung - that being said, I wish I could understand it because I want some money too. I learned about investing from my uncle, who learned from my grandfather, so because of that, my portfolio remains very... old. LA is expecting 2"+ rain today - please keep your fingers crossed my garage does not flood - every year I say I'm going to cut the drain ect - but I never do so if poo poo gets hosed up its on me. I did however install this heavy duty waxed/oiled canvas tarp over my deck to protect my doors that are already rotting... holding up well. also, the frost on my garage every morning has been pretty cool.
