aew awards

The first AEW Awards ceremony aired tonight on the Bleacher Report app.

Report --

Tony Schiavone was introduced as host and as an international sex symbol.

Schiavone then introduced Britt Baker and did a brief comedy monologue.

Biggest Beatdown -- The Inner Circle attack on Orange Cassidy

Retired MLB outfielder Curtis Granderson presented the award.

Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara accepted the award and ripped on Cassidy. Britt Baker interviewed the two. Jericho said it was the pinnacle of his career.

Hardest Moment to Clean Up After -- Santana & Ortiz vs. Best Friends parking lot brawl

Steve Lemme and Kevin Heffernan from Tacoma F.D. introduced the nominees and talked about how orange is the stickiest of all the juices.

Santana and Ortiz cut a comedy promo in accepting.

Best Twitter Follow -- Nyla Rose

Taylor Williamson presented and talked about how toxic Twitter is as a platform. Britt Baker accepted the award on Nyla's behalf and claimed victory.

Biggest Surprise -- Sting's AEW debut

Chael Sonnen introduced the nominees. Darby Allin accepted on Sting's behalf and simply said that he'll make sure Sting gets the trophy.

**********

Britt introduced a brief Brodie Lee tribute video.

**********

LOL Award -- The Young Bucks superkick MJF into the pool on the Jericho Cruise

Ron Funches introduced the category and talked about how he loves wrestling and had been to wrestling school. Matt Jackson said this ward was better than all the five stars Dave Meltzer has given them.

MJF thought he was accepting the award for best wrestler. Britt explained what he had actually won. MJF said the trophy looked like baby diarrhea.

Biggest WTF Moment -- Kenny Omega wins the AEW title, walks out of AEW

Schiavone introduced the nominees. Omega and Don Callis accepted the award and cut a heel promo.

High Flyer -- Rey Fenix

Wipeout host Camille Kostek presented. Fenix cut a short promo in accepting the award.

**********

Britt introduced a video package of fan reaction videos.

**********

Best Moment on the Mic -- Cody Rhodes accepts Mr. Brodie Lee's dog collar match challenge

Bert Kreischer from Go-Big Show was the presenter. Cody cut a babyface promo putting over Brodie. Baker then interviewed Cody.

Breakout Star Male -- Darby Allin

Breakout Star Female -- Hikaru Shida

Danielle Fishell Karp and Jensen Karp presented the awards. Allin's acceptance promo was one word -- "Cool." Britt interviewed Allin who said he's so quiet backstage because of people like her.

Shida thanked the fans and said she can feel their support. Baker said she should have won the award, then stole the trophy and ran off.

Bleacher Report PPV Moment of the Year -- Stadium Stampede

Shaq introduced the category. He said Cody was a punk and they can go any time Cody wants. He said Cody looks like a girl with his blonde hair and said they can do it in March.

Omega and Callis accepted. Callis said as they keep collecting awards, sometimes they need to leave friends behind.

The Bucks and Matt Hardy cut promos. Baker interviewed Hardy. Hardy said he was the brains behind the match and he stole the show. Hardy said he created the cinematic match concept.

**********

Schiavone signed off to close the show.

quote:

Eddie Kingston defeated Lance Archer

Neither man had any associates out with them.

They traded stiff strikes early on until Archer downed Kingston with a pounce. Archer continued to chop Kingston until he chokeslammed Kingston onto the corner of the ring to the floor in a ridiculous spot. "That had to have broken his back" were the words of Tony Schiavone.

Archer kept up the offense on the floor before flattening Kingston with a uranage in the ring. Kingston dropkicked Archer down and landed a running forearm for two, but Archer popped back up with a ripcord lariat. He went for Blackout, but Kingston fought out, so Archer hit another chokeslam and his rope-walk moonsault.

The EBD Claw followed, but Butcher and Blade appeared on the ramp with an incapacitated Jake Roberts, and Bunny slipped Kingston a knuckle duster. Kingston landed the weapon-assisted spinning backfist for the pin.

After the match, Butcher and Blade hit their tag team finisher on Archer and Kingston hit a second spinning back fist.

**********

A Jon Moxley video aired where he tried to decipher the Elite storyline. He's a simple guy who trusts in his right hand and left hand. The story doesn't matter because he loves a good six-man tag match (he teams with the PAC & Rey Fénix against Kenny Omega and the Good Brothers next week). It's gonna be wild, so "don't blink."

**********

Sting and Darby Allin addressed their upcoming street fight against Team Taz. Sting started, saying that he was hurt by being called a "hoodlum," but Allin is a hoodlum. Allin said it doesn't matter how dirty you play in the streets, because it's all about survival. Allin threw his skateboard through a window behind them, and Sting broke some windows with his bat. Sting ended up deciding that he is, in fact, a hoodlum, and it will be "showtime" at Revolution.

**********

Chris Jericho & MJF (w/ Inner Circle) vs. Varsity Blonds (Griff Garrison & Brian Pillman Jr.)

This was a nice match, especially for the Blonds. Garrison has a great hot tag.

Before the match, MJF said that he needed to talk to Sammy Guevara after the match. He then addressed Garrison, and asked him to skip the formalities and say "I quit." Garrison struck him and laid in strikes, but MJF escaped and grabbed a chair. The announcers pointed out that Guevara was applauding when Garrison attacked MJF.

Jericho tagged in but was met with a flurry of offense from the Blonds. He tried to fire back with strikes, but Pillman clotheslined him down until MJF took control with an illegal kick from the apron, leading into a commercial break.

During the break, Pillman made a comeback with a diving crossbody, leading to a really nice Garrison hot tag. Garrison ran wild with clotheslines and foiled multiple attempts to cut him off. He finished it off with a double spear on MJF for two.

Pillman tagged in and landed a missile dropkick before downing Jericho with a thrust kick for two. He sent Jericho to the floor with a dropkick, but was met with a Judas Effect and a Lionsault to finish it back in the ring. The Lionsault was intentionally superfluous after not hitting it perfectly last week, and it was a great little touch to end the contest.

MJF and Guevara exchanged words after the match.

**********

PAC talked about Kenny Omega. He called him a manipulator and a cheater and told Omega to bring his Good Brothers, because he and Fénix will show them the true meaning of brotherhood. Next week, Omega faces the consequences of his actions.

**********

The video of Shaquille O'Neal challenging Cody Rhodes played. He called Cody a "punk" and told him to name the time and place before landing on March as the time.

Cody and Arn Anderson came out to be interviewed by Tony Schiavone. Schiavone asked Cody to respond to Shaq and Jade Cargill. Instead, Cody said he'd like to just promote it for March 7. However, he can't do that, because he and Brandi are having a baby. Cody decided to defer the decision to his coach, Arn.

Arn said that the fact of the matter is that Cody's about to be a dad. It's the most important thing in his life. He asked if June 29, 1985 meant anything to Cody. That's where Arn watched Dusty fight Tully Blanchard, hop on a flight, and see the birth of his baby boy, Cody. Cody got tears in his eyes.

Arn said that if Cody decides to fight in March, he should do it with no regrets. He went over Shaq and Cargill's pedigrees, but Arn's seen something from the last two weeks that can't be measured like those two.

Red Velvet made her entrance and joined everyone in the ring. Arn said that both she and Cody have fire. Velvet took the mic and said that she's fed up and tired of getting attacked and watching Brandi get disrespected. Cody would never lay a hand on Cargill, but she would, because she's Red Velvet, and she's about to "stir her bitch-rear end up."

Schiavone concluded the segment by saying that the ball is in Shaq and Cargill's court. It looks like Cody & Red Velvet vs. Shaq & Jade Cargill is the match.

**********

A video played hyping the upcoming wedding between Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford.

**********

Hangman Page defeated Ryan Nemeth

Nemeth is the younger brother of WWE wrestler Dolph Ziggler, and this was his AEW debut.

The two performed chain wrestling until Page downed Nemeth with a boot. Page kept up the offense with more strikes, pounding on Nemeth in the corner. He sent Nemeth to the floor with his springboard clothesline and followed it up with a plancha.Back in the ring, Page missed a corner clothesline and Nemeth downed him with a dropkick.

Matt Hardy made his way down to the ring, appearing to scout the wrestlers in the match.

Nemeth maintained control with a neckbreaker, but he only got a one count. Page fired out of the corner with a lariat and downed Nemeth with a spinebuster. The sliding lariat followed for two. Nemeth countered a backdrop with a DDT for a quick two. Page countered out of a suplex and landed a discus forearm, and the Buckshot Lariat for three.

– Tony Schiavone came down to the ring after the match to talk to Page and Hardy. Hardy said that he came out to be in Page's corner and support him. He said that Page seems lost and knows how much love Page had for Omega and the Bucks.

Hardy said he doesn't want anything from Page, and wants to let him know that he's a good person who deserves to be happy. Hardy offered Page a spot to dress in his dressing room, and Schiavone said that he should take him up on it.

**********

Jungle Boy defeated Dax Harwood

This was a very good back-and-forth TV match. Aside from main events, there are few Dynamite matches that go this long – it was about fifteen minutes.

Luchasaurus was handcuffed to Cash Wheeler and Tully Blanchard so nobody could interfere in the match. Before the match, a video played where Harwood and Jungle Boy discussed what that means for the match.

Harwood powered Jungle Boy into the corner, where they exchanged words. Jungle Boy achieved a takedown with an armdrag, so they were even and locked up again. Harwood downed Jungle Boy with a shoulder tackle, but Jungle Boy won the following sequence with a dropkick. He looked for a submission, but Harwood reached the ropes.

Luchasaurus and Harwood jawed, but Jungle Boy brought his opponent back into the ring. Harwood took control with a boot to the midsection before laying in chops in the corner. Jungle Boy fired back with chops of his own, but Harwood was too powerful, kneeing Jungle Boy in the bread basket.

Jungle Boy used evasive maneuvers to send Harwood shoulder-first into the post, allowing him to target Harwood's left arm. Harwood downed him with an uppercut, but Jungle Boy hit a back suplex and sent Harwood to the floor. He went for a baseball slide, but Harwood sent him into the barricade, leading to a commercial.

Harwood continued during the entire break until a jawbreaker allowed Jungle Boy to start his comeback. A series of elbow strikes sent Harwood to the mat. Jungle Boy went to the top rope, but took too long, and Harwood flattened him with a Saito superplex.

Jungle Boy fired up and slapped Harwood, leading to a great strike exchange. Jungle Boy escaped out of multiple powerbombs and landed a thrust kick, but Harwood cut him off with a lariat. Harwood went for a powerbomb, but Jungle Boy hit a hurricanrana out of it for two. Harwood hit a slingshot Liger Bomb for a close two.

Harwood set up for a dragon suplex, but Jungle Boy fought out by attacking the injured arm. Jungle Boy landed a series of German suplexes but was cut off with a back elbow. Jungle Boy returned fire with a clothesline, but Harwood hit a misdirection DDT for another two.

Jungle Boy landed a diving crossbody, but Harwood rolled through and they exchanged a ton of cradles. Harwood landed a knee to the midsection and rolled Jungle Boy up for a great near fall, but Jungle Boy kicked out and applied the Snare Trap submission, which is like a deathlock crossface. Jungle Boy adjusted the hold, and Harwood tapped.

After the match, Tully threw powder in Luchasaurus's face and Wheeler beat down Jungle Boy. Harwood hit a slingshot suplex on FTR and Tully hit the diving spike piledriver on Luchasaurus as FTR held him. FTR then handcuffed Luchasaurus to the ropes as Harwood cut the horns off Luchasaurus's mask. It looked like they were about to cut off Jungle Boy's hair, but Marko Stunt (with a chair) and SCU ran out to make the save.

**********

Team Taz responded to Sting and Darby Allin's promo from earlier tonight. Taz began to speak, but they noticed a merch stand that was selling Sting gear, and everyone (including HOOK) attacked the workers and broked down the stand. Cage sent one of the guys head-first into a truck with a lawn dart throw, and Starks put another one through the table. Taz said that Starks and Cage would beat Sting and Allin's rear end in the street fight.

**********

Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. (w/ Rebel) defeated Shanna

They performed chain wrestling early on. Baker took control until Shanna downed her with an enziguiri. Shanna went for a running dropkick but Rebel pulled Baker out of the way, and Baker took advantage with an attack on the floor ahead of the break.

Shanna sent Baker to the canvas and landed a clothesline for two. Baker escaped out of a move into a cradle for two before hitting a short thrust kick. A swinging neckbreaker followed for another two. Baker went for the Lockjaw, but Shanna cradled out of it for two and hit a stunner and a running dropkick.

Rebel distracted the official as Shanna went for a Tiger Driver, allowing Baker to apply the Lockjaw for the submission.

After the match, Baker hit a curb stomp on Shanna and applied the Lockjaw again, btut Thunder Rosa's music played and Rosa chased Baker and Rebel away.

**********

A camera crew was following MJF as he looked for Sammy Guevara. MJF promised that he didn't tell Wardlow to get involved in the match last week, so he docked Wardlow's pay. Guevara called MJF one of the best manipulators in the business and said that he sees exactly what MJF is up to. MJF got serious and asked if Guevara wants to play it this way. Guevara said "I'm not playing."

**********

Next week's card for Beach Break:

AEW Tag Team Championship #1 Contender's Battle Royal (teams shown: Top Flight, Private Party, Jurassic Express, FTR, Jericho & MJF, Evil Uno & Stu Grayson, Santana & Ortiz, Sammy Guevara & Jake Hager, & The Acclaimed. Also, the Young Bucks are in the battle royal, and if they win, they choose their opponents.)
Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. vs. Thunder Rosa
Penelope Ford & Kip Sabian's wedding featuring Miro as the Best Man
Kenny Omega & The Good Brothers vs. Jon Moxley, PAC, & Rey Fénix

Also, the Street Fight between Team Taz and Sting & Darby Allin has been signed for Revolution.

Riho vs. Serena Deeb was announced for the first round of the AEW Women's World Championship Eliminator.

**********

Dasha interviewed the Young Bucks and the Good Brothers. The Good Brothers acted all wacky like when they were in the Bullet Club, and said they'd beat up Jon Moxley next week. Matt didn't want Don Callis to get involved. They were about to argue, but Kenny Omega showed up with a heavily bandaged Don Callis. Callis said that the Bucks assaulted him, but their music played to start the match.

The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) & The Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows) defeated Dark Order (Evil Uno, Stu Grayson, Alex Reynolds, & John Silver)

The announcers mentioned the Bullet Club by name.

Uno and Anderson started off. Uno hit an atomic drop and rolled Anderson up for a quick two. Silver tagged in and wanted Gallows, the big guy. The height difference was a great visual, and Gallows taunted him for it. Silver laid in forearms but Nick kicked him in the back, allowing Matt to tag in.

Matt did his usual heel work, including raking the back. Reynolds and Matt had an exchange, but Nick tagged in with his corner knee into a bulldog sequence. All four of the Bucks and the Brothers worked together to beat down Reynolds, concluding with the Too Sweet pose. Both teams tripped the wrestlers in the ring and Reynolds reached Grayson for a tag.

Grayson dispatched everyone in his path with a fantastic hot tag. He concluded it with a frog splash on Anderson for two ahead of a break. During the break, the Bucks and the Brothers took control by double-teaming Grayson with the official distracted.

Back from break, a well-placed kick allowed Grayson to escape to Silver for the hot tag. He backdropped Nick all over the place and followed it up with a sequence not unlike his incredible hot tag from the Brodie Lee tribute show. A brainbuster on Nick followed for two.

10 then walked out and did heroin mixed with cocaine. Excalibur shouted "SHADES OF MIKE BAILEY" as the announcers mused about Speedball.

Uno tagged in and hit a neckbreaker, but whiffed on the senton bomb. Matt tagged in and hit a double Northern Lights suplex and a double clothlesline on the entire Dark Order. Silver and Reynolds double-teamed Matt in the ring before Dark Order hit Fatality, but the Good Brothers broke it up for a great near fall.

Nick hit superkicks on everyone and followed it up with an escalera dive onto the pile. Uno, Silver and Reynolds were all powerbombed onto the ring apron outside, and they hit a triple superkick on Grayson in the ring, but Uno was somehow able to break it up. The Good Brothers dispatched Uno with the Magic Killer and the Bucks hit the Meltzer Driver on Grayson to win.

After the match, Matt talked about next week's tag team battle royal. He said that if they win, they get to handpick their opponents for Revolution. Matt said it could be "anybody" and looked at the Good Brothers, and they posed with the Too Sweet.

Rey Fénix ran out and attacked the Good Brothers, but he was overwhelmed with the numbers advantaged and the Brothers set up for the Magic Killer. Moxley ran out to make the save and Fénix took out the Good Brothers with a ridiculous tope. Kenny Omega ran out to attack Moxley, but Moxley spiked him with a Paradigm Shift as he and Fénix posed to close the show.

Riho vs Deeb seems like blowing their load too early on what should be one of the better matches of the tourney. Plus I'd think they'd want both of them to work as many matches as possible since they're two of the better workers.

Also another thought I had: if there actually is one whole side for US women and another for Japanese women, and Riho is on the US side, does that mean she's winning the whole thing and has already taped the tournament finals with whoever the Japan side winner is before she came back to the US?

All of this aside I'm excited of course.
