One thing I really like about Gene Kelly movies is that it's very clear that only the main characters can hear the music. I really like the camera work on those old movies, like how it follows them around the set, swings left and right to keep them in frame. Adds a sense of physicality. I don't think they had steadicams back then so I assume it's something about how it moves on the dolly.
