Pylon is a very cool band I was turned onto by a stripper in Portland, Oregon. Every time I listen to them it takes me back to a certain time in my life, drifting halfway aimlessly between Portland and Seattle, knowing I wanted to get back to living in Japan, not sure if that would ever be possible. Thinking once I got here I'd be on a trajectory more, more or less, for a bunch of plans I had. But like everything, best laid plans often kind of fall apart or stall. Now I'm here, and that's good, but I'm a bit stuck. That's okay. I listen to Pylon and remember that life stalls out on you sometimes. And everything is cool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gj8NXWkqcqI

Deep Glove Bruno posted:if you liked that you might like this Cool, cool. I heard it as a singer scatting along with the flautist on the track I posted, didn't realize it was the flautist doing the scatting! It's more obvious now on second listen. Sample spotting is fun, though I'm pretty green at it. |

just caught up to like the last 3 pages and got so much good stuff inspired by beer pal posting a ton of good Canadian punk i've never heard i offer the newest from my fav Canadian punk band Single Mothers. They simultaneously released an ep and lp, Pig and Bubble. Pig is more traditional in their vein and Bubble is this insane project that involves a lot of almost hip hop sensibilities meeting their very brash roots. Pig (check Over My Shoulder and Annihilate) https://singlemothersband.bandcamp.com/album/pig-2 Bubble (this whole thing owns) https://singlemothersband.bandcamp.com/album/bubble-2

All my fav rappers are dead or cancelled except for Milo aka R.A.P Ferreira a.k.a. Scallops Hotel (and also Open Mike Eagle but this is a milo post) I've been listening to his music for like 15 years now and it's really amazing to look back on b/c I grew up and transitioned from adolescence to post-adulthood along basically the same path as he did in his music over that timespan If you ask me or someone who's really into his music you would be told that it's a completely different echelon of creativity and poetry than can be found basically anywhere else in the history of music. If you asked most folks they would just say "yeah it's alright". It takes a kind of special connection w/ the lyrics and reflection on self and self-growth to vibe w/ it but it's like the musical form of a zen koan. Every track is like a puzzle that I solve more of on the occasional listen even now and that I gain new perspectives and insights about my inner self and demons and victories in. Anyway here's some videos 1) all around probably one of my fav milo tracks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mMOsl8qpfc 2) a recent-ish track in this post-joy globalized-weltschmerz style I'm feeling lately https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YVv5pDspfA 3) a topically immature and undeveloped 9 year old track except it's hella good and uses a dope track by baths as a beat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7H-GO_0poCA 4) An exploratory side project that I miss https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNRYLndYSpQ 5) A song you'll really dig if youve studied philosophy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXzouMb3BFg 6) A super cool and well animated vid/song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HZa6UWW2H8 7) A really freakin rad side project w/ ELUCID that unfortunately probably isnt getting another album https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-Hl0LOd7DA Anyway he still makes music sometimes but these days has mostly retired to open and run a record store in small-town maine deep dish peat moss fucked around with this message at 02:38 on Feb 19, 2021 |
