Not really a white whale but this thread has been an awesome place to find lost internet stuff. I remember this story from a long time ago but I can't pinpoint a year, I'd guess roughly in the late '00s. A musician in a metal band thought he was being spied on and thought his band mates were stealing his DNA. Then he mysteriously died a year later, possibly by suicide. He thought his band members were government spies or something and they were plotting to kill him or set him up for being a paedophile and they stole his sock that he had used to clean up his own semen. He was possibly schizophrenic and put a massive rant on a MySpace blog or perhaps YouTube videos. A year later he had a suspicious death. He was possibly a guitarist for this band. I'm sorry this is so vague and possibly inaccurate, it literally just popped into my head.

There's a Joan Rivers candid freakout clip that I have been looking for 10+ years with no luck. It's something like an Access Hollywood/Entertainment Tonight/Hard Copy-era bumper of her mouthing off to a security guard getting into/out of a building. "Search me? SEARCH ME? You little slut! If I would-" while her daughter awkwardly tries to pull her away from the situation. It's pure gold and was quoted in my circle of friends for quite awhile.

You know that picture of the white lady standing in front of a chalkboard with a bunch of baby names crossed out? I saw a version of that but with her as an orc or something from Warcraft crossing out a bunch of orc names. I can't find it anywhere.

Any “After Dark” screensavers from 25 years ago that work on Win10? I used to have all of them on a floppy, including the one that was (cannot recall the name) like violent or bloody or so? I loved every one of them, but lost the disks back around Win98 SE when I got done with my 27” CRT. They aren’t exactly hard to find, but finding them for Win10 -64 Pro is impossible for me. The one I really want is the full-screen chalkboard filling up with math equations related to Einstein’s work. Any of them been ported to any newer system including a newer distribution of Linux?

Super vague but, I've been trying to remember where I read this for a while: A guy and his girlfriend has a running joke where they would converse in the style of the TV show Hannibal. Something like: A: (mentions innocuous subject, e.g.) look at those flowers B: Ah yes, flowers. Flowers that grow and strangle and sting (increasingly ornate description) ... Do you like flowers. Will. Graham. It may even have been on SA.

Back when my family had IFC for one of those free trial weekends, I caught the end of a movie that looked pretty good, but I never got the name. Only part I remember is a white guy with scruffy beard being released from jail, and when he's being processed the jailer says something like 'see you on Sunday' or something. The guy gets picked up by his brother, and on the ride home they both light cigarettes. The brother who got out of jail picks through a shoebox full of cassettes, finds one, puts in the car stereo, and some indie rock song starts while the credits roll. This ringing any bells to anyone? I want to say it was canadian.

Sir Not Appearing posted:I have a movie I'm trying to identify, but I don't have much to go on. Throughout the 2000s, I was downloading faster than I could ever watch them. Fast-forward a while later, and I had forgotten what it was, the file name was no help and whoever ripped it cut the credits off presumably to save a few precious mb. Fast-forward to the early 2010s and when it was uploaded to my Plex server, it was misidentified. Could this perhaps be MARTYRS? Doesn't fit exactly, but the rain, the two girls, tattered clothing, the pit.. And, heck, it might be THE most notorious film of the torture porn cycle.

Martyrs crosses a few different genres. Revenge flick, torture film, small elements of J-horror and finally existential nightmare. It's an amazing and clever film everybody should watch but I absolutely do not want to see it ever again.

I'm pretty into Celtic mythology and history (not a chud, I'm an archaeologist in Scotland) and the other day discovered that, in 2003, an anime-inspired film adaptation of the medieval Welsh Mabinogion was produced: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0376995/ As a big fan of both animation and the Mabinogion (seriously, read it if you're interested, it's wonderful) this is kind of my holy grail. I emailed both the National Library of Wales and S4C (the production company) who confirmed that the film was never given a home video or digital release, and there are no copies online. I have to see this film.

There was an old book of Scandinavian folklore/ghost stories. Probably would have come out in the 90s or 80s. I think it had a winter theme on the front. I bought it with some of the Scary Stories books from my school's book club, but have never been able to find it again.

A whole missing film. I did a fairly deep dive looking for it and no dice. What is tragic is that it definitely was available in its entirety on YT less than a year ago, but the account and its videos are now gone and I can't find any link that will let me scrape any more info from archive.org You could try contacting the director directly. Their email is here: https://www.falmouth.ac.uk/staff/derek-hayes I also found this guy who did a whole show about the Mabinogi in 2015, and showed the entire film. Their contact details are on here: http://cabinetofcuriosities.moonfruit.com/contact/4578432148 Failing that, the cinema that showed the film was the Aberystwyth Arts Centre which has an attached cinema dedicated to cultural films. You might be able to find out whether they have retained a copy or not. Can find their contact stuff here: https://www.aberystwythartscentre.co.uk/contact-us Let us know how it turns out.

Sekenr posted:I am looking for music video. As you probably know, this song (whatever it is) draws heavily from Coleridge's poem Rime of the Ancient Mariner. The imagery had been featured in many songs over the years, so a good starting point would be the Wikipedia article about adaptations of the poem, in the music section: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rime_of_the_Ancient_Mariner_in_popular_culture You can probably rule out a ton of the songs immediately - some are clearly just a throwaway line about an albatross, while some (like the Tiger Lillies one, for example) draw more heavily on the whole nautical misadventures. I did watch some of the Tiger Lillies song ("Living Hell") which did have a really weird theatrical/stylized look, but not sure if that's The One for you. I'll do a deeper search once I'm home from work today...

I remember when I was a kid, my sister playing some edutainment game on some older PC like Windows 3.1 or something, where you had to make a ladybug by putting together its parts piece by piece and at the end the ladybug would fly off. I always found it as unsettling as as it was interesting and I've wanted to revisit it but google just sends me Miraculous Ladybug pictures or screenshots of the old arcade game Lady Bug every time. I wish I could find it because it sounds like an elaborate hallucination but I just vividly remember assembling a ladybug. I've tried a few times to find it over the years to no effect.
