This guy experienced a bug or something that got him banned, and instead of continually trying to get it fixed (I'm not at all saying google is innocent here), he throws a tantrum and says his game won't go on stadia, which probably will not effect google at all. So he's really only effecting his own company, and his fans so he can get some kind of ineffective 'revenge' and stick it to the man

I'm a founder. I bought into the idea of Stadia because Google promised to deliver games that could only exist in the cloud, and in particular their infrastructure.

Most of us endured mockery and ridicule because we bought into Google's vision of the future of gaming. The streaming tech is awe-inspiring, and it works. But ultimately, the true revolution of gaming was the promise of harnessing the power of Google, its cloud, to deliver an uncontested gaming experience.

This is why I became a Stadia founder. And I'm pretty sure the same is true for most founders and early adopters. I knew it would take 3 to 5 years for Google to attain its vision. To do my part, I became a founder and Pro subscriber, hoping that a couple of years from now, I could brag about being at the frontline of a gaming revolution.

This thing came up in the bitcoin thread and has explained soooooo many things for me:

People over-investing in unlikely things in with the idea that they'll be vindicated and gain status from it is just pervasive on the internet. Bitcoin, star citizen, stadia, even a bunch of chud Q poo poo. And it's like, the worse the thing they've invested in is doing, the more they beat their chest about it in anticipation of the world's biggest "told you so".

Personally I hate mining, so I'd be aboard the Apollo overseeing everything, deciding who does the mining, keeping a list of who is getting injured the most frequently and how much ore they are mining as well as over seeing logistics and helping out with triage in the event of multiple casualties. Any miners that are getting injured too often will be given training by the best miner but if they don;t get much better then they go home with the next cargo load and we try a new hire out. Those that are very efficient will be given better meals and I might invite the top ones after work to my cabin for some rare and exotic food and drinks as a reward for their hard work and to ensure they want to remain a member of my crew.

If we ever a find a planet with abundant mines I will probably bring a bigger ship such as a Constellation Andromeda to command my staff from, that way I could bring more supplies and miners. It's got a decent number of beds, lockers and a toilet etc to keep the workers happy. With it having a Snub fighter it means that the scout ship will have an escort to help keep it safe it can also run messages back and forth in the even of some sort of EMP event that temporarily knock out radio communications. The only down side is the size of the food prep and eating area but I'd just have to work out a shift timetable to make sure it never gets too crowded.

I suppose if there is enough interest in these mining expeditions then I could bring one luxury ship with more beds, a big kitchen and mess hall and area for the crew to R&R. That way after a herd days work they can get the nutrition and rest that will help keep them strong and capable of staying on top of their game. Plus if I could put things like gambling machines and Black Jack tables etc on board I could recuperate some of the money they get paid from them losing at gambling. Could even have a tier system of food, so the top miners get access to quality food and drinks where as the worse miners get basic supplies but can purchase better food if they should choose so. They could also upgrade to more luxury sleeping quarters.

Anyway, all of this would be temporary until the Endeavor ship comes out, I will of course be using this as my Command Ship to lead a fleet doing much more than just mining. But I don't want to ramble on about that here unless you do want to hear how I think things will turn out with that.

quote:

Nobody HAS to work for anyone else if they don't want to. But I bet my bottom dollar that after a few missions in one of the crappy starter ships by yourself, with very low rewards you'll soon change your mind and jump at the chance to work on a large multi crew ship. It will mean bigger and harder missions can be accepted, so bigger rewards to be split up accordingly. But more than the income it's about teaming up with people and roleplaying as if you are actually in a spaceship in space. Not everyone can be captain of the ship, it does not work like that in real life or ingame, so it's only fair that who ever has invested RL money into one of the more expensive ships should be captain. Plus even if you join a larger ships crew you won't be 'janitor' for that long, I imagine a lot of the income will be invested into new spaceships to get fleets on the go. We are going to need big fleets if expanding over new worlds to exploit resources and build bases is going to go anywhere. So if you really hate playing alongside other players, you could always get a single seater support ship and come and guard the main fleet or be out scouting, scanning for threats and opportunities etc.

quote:

There needs to be enough players with entry level ships so that they see it as a positive and privilege to be invited to work on my larger ship and become part of my crew. Their reward (apart from wages) will be to explore and adventure in places they would never survive solo. All in all it's a win win situation to own and crew a larger ship which will then be part of a fleet.

I am stunned.. posted:

I'm an old man who barely gets time to game anymore. If it's not for two kids headbutting me in the unmentionables repeatedly until I pay them attention, it's my massive toothed wife demanding I 'do' things;

"Stop wiping your boogers under the sofa when you're gaming!" or, "Have a shower you lazy, fat piece of poo poo." - It's never-ending.

So being a long time fan of Google and it's products, when Stadia was announced I squirreled away enough pocket money to finally get on board and get gaming, and my sweet Tom Cruise, am I glad I did.

Yes, I understand that there have been complaints in the media and from YouTube reviewers, about some of the stumbles the launch has had, but as a consumer who lives on coffee and the hope for at least an eight-hour sleep at some point, this is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for. Let me give you an example;

I own a ton of old consoles that my wife hides in the loft like it's my dirty shame, but currently I'm an Xbox One S Ultimate Game Pass subscriber, a PS4 player and I have a Switch loaded with an absolute midden of indie games, (I'm Scottish, 'Midden' means a helluva lot, or you're as dirty as hell.)

Despite this, since receiving my Founders Kit I've done little else but play Stadia. I've had Destiny 2 since it first came out, and fell away from it for being a bit dull on both Xbox and PS4. Yet on Stadia, I've been up to my proverbial nuts in the game, wondering what sweet yet devilish magic these magicians at Google have offered up to Beelzebub himself to not only make it work so well, but also make it look as beautiful as it does. I'm sucked back into the damned game because of you Google Overlords. How dare you allow me to transition from playing on my TV to playing on my mediocre PC with a scabby old Xbox 360 controller, and still look magnificent?!?

And Tomb Raider! I didn't give two poops about this when it came out on Xbox, yet here I am sniping idiots with a scabby bow, thinking I'm some super-evolved Bear Grylls with tits, and loving every minute!!

Samurai Showdown too is ace, (but I keep getting 'finger banged' horribly by better players or the CPU, and I turn it off in a huff, then spend 10 minutes calling the universe many unsavory names.)

How exactly have you mad bastards managed this? How have you allowed me to play games at this quality over a circular, sweaty dongle on the back of my TV, or through the monitor of my PC, which probably last saw dominance back when 'Johnny 5' was pissing about telling everyone he was alive and stuff?

And despite the fact that you only allow this goodness on Pixel mobiles currently, (C'mon Google pals, you can't tell me this isn't just to encourage us to buy Pixels? I bought nothing but Nexus phones till you priced me out the goddamned market, and now I have to use Samsung pish with that in-built 'Bixby' feature that I keep accidentally activating with that STUPID BUTTON, and wishing I had the balls to throw the bloody phone into the nearest river.) I still love the hell out of you guys.

Thank you for making an amazing gaming system, that I only hope grows and develops enough to show the world that you're awesome. This goodness works.

The classic exit strategy when a digital app is losing steam is to reduce prices drastically while the service still has value to get every last dollar out of the remaining users. Of course there are plenty of blow-out sales that don't indicate a company is wrapping things up but I'd wager the frequency and value of deals on Stadia accelerates the closer the thing gets to being cancelled as an active product (Stadia will still run for a few years at least but the moment Google announce that no further technical upgrades will be done to the hardware running it all then it's effectively done).

so a while back coinbase lost their lawsuit in court and had to start reporting their stuff to the IRS like legitimate institutions always have been - they don't report every piddly idiot who drops $100 and forgets their password but if you move 6 figures or more they're absolutely sending your records to the feds. A lot of these idiots got dicked down hard by IRS-CI early on because they were cashing out 500k to buy lambos and paying zero taxes, then doing blatantly criminal poo poo they learned on reddit in order to conceal ownership and stuff.

also coinbase has been very desperate to become legitimate and accepted by regulators, so they're extremely open when it comes to responding to inquiries from other institutions. They're more than happy to trace where someone's bitcoins go even after they move them off the platform: https://www.cbancnetwork.com/questi...Bitcoin,%20etc.

Those posters' experiences track mine pretty closely (I work in AML and used to investigate bitcoins a lot back in the day) and can say without a doubt that coinbase is far more willing to turn over their customers than practically any actual bank because they don't want to establish any kind of precedent for being held liable for their customers' crimes. I can't speak to other exchanges since I've been out of the investigating field for a while and coinbase isn't the only game in town anymore so I assume we're at the "what if we just ignored when our customers did crimes" stage of the industry with these new joints. Regulators were really hands-off on bitcoins for a lot of the past few years but now the career guys are getting back behind the wheel and they've never trusted bitcoins for reasons good and bad.

The story of a man who was so sure of the second coming of Christ that he and his wife nearly worked themselves to death building a thousand-year stone fortress to live in once the end times arrived (which was totally going to happen "soon").

quote:

In 1950 Fair Nicholson died of cancer at age 72. The Nicholsons had been married over 50 years. William Nicholson was quoted as saying, "It was hard to be parted from her after so many years. My wife believed in me but her faith in eternal life was weak. She tried to believe, but she had her doubts. There came times when she talked of dying." Fifteen years later, at the age of 88 and nearly blind and deaf, William died, and was buried alongside his wife in Clarks Grove Cemetery. The day before William went to the hospital he told the pastor from the church next-door to the Castle that "if God doesn't intervene soon, I will die."
