There is a really funny conspiracy about Youtube's content review team that I heard about when a big youtuber (Critical) uploaded WWE-style commentary to a fake wrestling match of people dressed up like cartoon characters pretending to fight (exaggerated fake hits and all) and it got taken down for violent content. He's high enough on the ladder that he has his own assigned community rep he talks to, and he asked the rep to talk to the team who does content review, and it turns out no one in the company is given the contact info or even names of who is in that team. Meanwhile, Critical is also very outspoken about the huge animal abuse video community on Youtube that never get removed. So, the conclusion a lot of people drew was that the content review team is actually just an AI that's been trained on a bunch of videos to try and suss out things like fight videos. Honestly, I kind of believe this.

That being said, the idea that anyone or anything is looking over Steam submissions for quality or content is laughable and I'm pretty sure their policy is literally anything goes unless they get enough Twitter flak about a specific game. Reminds me of all the insane poo poo I've seen people say in Dota2 over the years that have never gotten banned, so I went in hardcore and video recorded one guy doing some Big Racism and included his Steam profile and sent it directly to Steam support and they said "hey uh in the future please don't do this and just use the in-game report feature" and that's because they don't want people to force them to actually have to look over all this poo poo because then they can't just ignore it, because then you could go on Twitter and say "hey Valve support saw this video and didn't ban this guy, they condone this behavior."

I know this because they actually banned him after I sent in the video

Mm yeah I pretty much felt the same way in the midgame. The game's still being actively developed, and this latest patch is somewhat unbalanced, I hear. If you beeline for launch pads and find good randomized levels, that will alleviate resource issues.

As far as feeling pressed for time, if you can find people to play with, that lets you split responsibilities.

Speaking of games platforms and bad support, roblox has this big issue with impersonating games.

So, for example, let's take a popular game called Royal High. In Roblox you can purchase Robux which are the premium currency that you can then spend on the individual games people make in Roblox. The people who make and manage the games in Roblox are separate from the people who work at Roblox.

If someone spends their robux on a game, they can't get a refund without going directly to Roblox's support team, but often times their support team just directs the person to the people who run the individual games, but those people don't have any power over robux, refunding or otherwise, and can only direct them back to Roblox, who continues the pattern.

This is a problem because for popular games like Royal High, scam games exist where they basically rip whatever they can and use a copycat name claiming to be the official game and when someone goes to this fake game and spends their robux, a portion of that money goes to the person who made the fake game and the rest of the money is picked up by Roblox. In short, a person can accept premium currency while pretending to run a game that they do not actually run and there is no real way to put a stop to this because Roblox has no incentive to stop the scamming since they get money either way.

They, to my knowledge, don't even have any systems in place like Twitter has with its verification label, so it is up to the users, who are largely children, to not be tricked by a game server masquerading as the game that they want to play because Roblox will go through hell or high water to avoid any kind of responsibility and the people they defer the victims to don't actually have the power to do anything about it.

It'd be like if Valve just let people upload games to steam using the same names as AAA titles but marked at a discount to trick people into buying them and then refused to let them get refunds when they find out the game they bought is really just a text document that says "lol"

I think this is about Mindustry

I played the game more than a year ago and there was like, one or two base assault missions and they were very easy, so all the new ones aren't exactly tacked-on, but they are bad. Put them off until the lategame where you have much stronger units available for production - the big effort is to actually get drone production set up, upgrading them is easy from that point. But, honestly, drones shouldn't be your main offensive resource for those maps. Eventually you'll get access to screen-wide turrets that can hit any unit from outside its effective range, so you use those to set perimeters and then turret creep forward with Arcs. You also want to start with a ton of resources so you don't have to worry about setting up mines except for providing electricity and ammo.

there are definitely people involved in the steam review process, which now includes manual review of the assets of your game and demanding instructions on how to extract whatever weirdass archives youve stored them in. that + the total lack of any kind of appeals process makes steam way worse and more capricious than youtube, which at least sometimes will go back on a dumb decision

i don't think twitter outrage accounts for it, when we're talking about something like evenicle 2 vs futa dine and dash or huniepop 2

Sort of similar story but just last week my company had a big issue with some guy from Indonesia making a fake website and impersonating our company on Facebook and sending DMs to people, claiming they won a contest we were holding and trying to get them to submit credit card info. I got ahold of Facebook support to get the page taken down and it took them a few hours, but then within nine minutes they had made a new Facebook account and just did the whole thing over again. I was looking for any sort of larger-scale solution, like the you said, like some sort of verification checkmark or the ability to put a warning up on the page, but then Facebook support's whole info page about it comes down to "it's your responsibility to not get scammed"

I actually like a number of games that were clearly originally porn games but the publishers cut that part out of the release. I played Eiyu Senki on the PS4 and that game rules. The sequel just got translated/released and should be on Steam soon. I wasn't really interested in Tower but Sword of Succubus looked like a neat Zelda-like

Interesting, I've only played the latest patch, but from what I can tell, the game's changed quite a bit. Arcs are still pretty strong early on, though.

mgsv is good youre all off on one

also you have to opt in to see any porn stuff on steam, my suggestion would be to opt out again if its a concern. its also kind of funny we now have to worry about too much garbage on steam when the main concern for ages was valve gatekeeping what is or isnt allowed on the store, keeping lots of smaller devs out unless they managed to get a publisher. probably better that its a free for all imo.

I haven't looked at the steam store in years beyond typing in a specific game's name, adding it to my wishlist, and filtering that to what's currently on sale. The actual storefront and recommendation systems may as well not exist.

i agree that it's better free for all and devs need to find other ways to increase their visbility than just hoping they'll be on the front page of steam. even if steam was heavily gatekept, there'd still be too many quality games coming out for them to just succeed finacially purely on merit

like with the steam demo festivals, those are good avenues for visbility, but even still you really had to dig deep to find the garbage with those. i've got over 50 titles wishlisted that haven't come out yet that were in those festivals. there's too many games. games are going to fail commercially despite being great and it's nobody's fault. best that indie devs can do is learn marketing & business skills

I too was upset to be played like a drat fiddle.

I wish GZ couldn't easily be completed in 20 minutes. I'm very route one and rarely go back to games/levels I've completed unless I adored them so I feel like I missed out on a lot of what it had to offer because the game didn't force me to explore more.

It's why I make a conscious effort to spent at least 90 minutes in a Hitman map before finishing it now.

Google will enforce their rules on people who can't defend themselves and have no community or representative at Google to advocate for them. Youtube's rule enforcement is extremely harsh in comparison to others, you are just outright permabanned on the spot with no warning or second chances, and their appeal system is set to just automatically reject any and all appeals, and you can't appeal again after your first time. There is nothing in place to speak to a real person as well.
