At the end when it slowed down I thought we would get a glimpse at the driver and it being a small child or dog or something.

Wikipedia posted:On May 3, 1953, at the opening of the fishing season along the upper Sacramento River, Walter and Virginia Schau decided to take her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Brown, out for a day of fishing. Virginia Schau brought along a Brownie camera that her sister had given to her some years back, although she said later: "I'm the kind of person who always takes a camera on a trip and never takes a picture." This had been the first time she had picked up the camera in over a year, the previous Mother's Day, and there were still two exposures left on the roll.

I wonder how many bystanders would willingly climb into a burning cab dangling 3 storeys above a river to rescue someone with minimal safety gear. That man either has balls of steel or needed to look really good in front of the in-laws.

Gotta admit I'm on mushrooms right now and videos of cutting pipes with acetylene and massive gearing are pretty sweet.

I've got a pretty decent sense of humour, but if someone did that to me I'd be all like "Yup, I'm leaving for the day. Clock me out when the job is done:? Answer - A: Yup? Cool, see y'all later. B: Nope? Oh my, then we're going to have a problem here.

I think I remember that one was where the quarry workers kept telling the dude that putting a boulder in the truck bed was a bad idea but he kept insisting because gently caress you, I'm a Man with a Truck you can't tell me what I can't do. They obliged and that was the result.

The one with audio is even better because the truck owner keeps bitching and throwing out insults like "and you call yourself an operator?! Better not scratch my truck!"

Monkey Fracas posted:There needs to be a name for this forbidden technique; seems to come up a lot I've witnessed the related forbidden technique of ladder on a lift. I told the foreman there was no way I'd go on that, so he did it himself. The safety guy told the foreman not to do it, the foreman overruled him, so he called the office and quit on the spot (got rehired 30 minutes later).

I've done that with a transfer shovel and not nearly the amount of force. It's how I passed time when I was a union apprentice waiting for something to do. It's not something you get on the first 100 tries.

The most thing. Lucking into money and losing it all due to medical bills. The only thing that would have made it more american is if the medical bills were because of a gunshot wound.

This very much reminds me of that video of Russian base jumpers who wanted to use a cable spanning a gorge to have a bit of fun. Their idea was to climb down it to the mid point and jump. Only, they thought they could go hand over hand. Which did work until the guy started sliding and couldn't stop. I remember he seriously hosed up his gloves and hands. And possibly pissed his pants. Not that I blame him for that last part, just watching the video is frightening, I can't imagine how terrifying it must have been in reality. EDIT: Found it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F723rIlW_No&t=10s

This genuinely sent my anxiety through the roof, and the part where dropped the seat to hang by his legs upside on the wire, rocking back and forth triggered vertigo in me like nothing else. Still, bet he felt exhilaration like nothing else when he landed safely.

The craziest part of this is trying to imagine what they were expecting in the best-case scenario. Climbing hand-over-hand for that long would have left their hands and arms completely exhausted for the jump.
