I'm reasonably excited about this. So many Disney villains were queer coded, so I feel like a lot of these deep dives into their backstories is definitely pandering to the community, and I'm here for it. I'm just waiting for them to release an animated version of Pink Flamingos as Ursula's backstory.

The funny part about it is it feels like Disney knows they accidentally put one of their best ever villains in a movie that otherwise nobody cares about

Showdown in the Galaxy Era.

God. They're definitely doing an Ursula movie next, aren't they?

Can't wait for Frollo, the fun story of a religious hypocrite who wants to genocide every gypsy in France, except the one he'll stop at nothing to rape.

101 Dalmatians seems fairly beloved (both animated and live action)

The theatre version of Hunchback plays him slightly more sympathetically, although he still gets what he deserves in the end.

I didn't see the first Maleficent, but did see the second, and didn't think it was particularly good. But, Angelina Jolie was great in it, and if Cruella is just an excuse for Emma Stone to get her vamp on in a similar fashion I say go for it,

If it weren't for Patrick Willems's video on the Paddington series, I probably would have never checked them out, but I'm really glad I did because they're now among my favorite movies. They're really warm and comforting movies that are just perfect for the holiday season.

NEWT REBORN
-Cruella insists that these dozens of cheaply-animated talking dogs are CGI and not real, while the rest of the cast gaslights her.

-Cruella finds herself in a Jack Bauer situation where making a puppy-skin coat is the only way to stop the impending nuclear detonation.

-Cruella spends two-thirds of the runtime explaining that her name means “of the city”, before letting out a long sigh and just resigning herself to the inevitable.

-Shot-for-shot remake of Silence Of The Lambs, but it’s Cruella.

The Paddington films are just so charming, and there are some absolutely inspired visual gags.

One of the recent Mickey Mouse shorts had a zombie Goofy. (It also had one where Mickey smashes open a sentient pinata and the local kids swarm it and feast on its sweet, sweet innards as it lies dying.)

Edit: the pinata is voiced by Danny Trejo. I kid you not.

Hmm... speaking of coded gay disney villains, would that Aladdin remake have been better if it was about Jafar? That Lion King but it's Scar? The Cool Gay Tiger in Jungle Book? (idk if that was one was coded, i havent seen it in a while)

Feb 10, 2009

Scar was offscreen doing humanitarian work for the less fortunate lions who struggle under the iron paw of Mufasa's Pride Rock. After he assumes power, the lion CIA hamstrung his infrastructure projects and arranged for handlers (Timon & Pumba) to reassert the rule of Simba, a known asset.

BRRREADSTOOORRM!
Shere Khan? No he wasn't gay coded, Kaa was though. I am surprised they haven't tried it with Ursula, they already had the tragic backstory written in.

I will second Descendants as actually a bit of campy fun, the leads are insufferable but Cheyanne Jackson does a bit of heavy lifting. I may be colored a bit since I watched while babysitting my 4 year old niece and watching her shear joy at it.

Cruella DeVill begins her hunt for dalmatians, only to find that there are almost no dalmatians left in the world. She discovers that the original animated Cruella has found the multiverse and is poaching the dalmatians from alternate Earths going from 101 to infinite dalmatians. Emma Stone Cruella must team up with Glenn Close Cruella to save her world's dalmatians (so she can kill them herself.)

-May 8, 1945, Berlin. 101 Nazi war criminals escape capture by Allied forces by having their brains transplanted into dalmatian bodies. While interning at Hugo Boss after the war, Cruella stumbles onto documents about the procedure and is going to deliver righteous justice the only way she knows how.
