If it's not patched, place two beams down and you can place a campfire on top of it. Frame it with some half-walls and you got a nice hearth going.

I had already built a separate hearth area for my house saturated with fires for cooking and whatnot.

I ended up just digging it a bit further down and building a lil’ vent, it works great now. I’ll have to make sure my bed is closer to the fires for my eventual next build though.

Give me a bit and I'll let you know. It's a 10gig VPS and I've got a few ~1 gig world backups so not too large. Docker would be less trouble especially if you can do something like AZ's App services setup; I don't think there was an official container image out there when I last looked but I'd be amazed if there weren't multiple community made ones within a minute or two after the server software was available. That would for sure be the easiest way to go about it though; though at that point you're talking Watchtower and all sorts of fun stuff.

e - ~ 6 gigs used and about 4 of those are word file backups (and the active world file), so 3 or thereabouts should do you. Game's tiny yo.

We spawned him the previous night but couldn't kill him so he just guarded that part of the biome until we got him.

Welp. Watched the longboat I had built just flip upside down and explode for no apparent reason. Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening? I noticed it happen to the karve as well one time. It did not hit a rock and a monster did not attack it. It appears to be a bit of physics jankiness that flipped it and pushed it out away from shore. Of course I cant' recover the nails since we are unable to dive.

I had the same issue twice with a longboat flipping upside down. For me I'm pretty sure it was some wonkiness due to having a portal set up like 10 feet from the ship because it only happened when I would come back through the portal. I moved the portal further away and haven't had any capsized ships since.

Does anyone know how well this game handles random disconnects when playing multi? My cable sometimes drops for a minute or two when its busy or just when it feels like, obviously it will suck to lag out at a critical moment. But would it also, I dunno, crash and potentially wipe a bunch of character progress? Or mess with everyone else, as I've heard the game relies on p2p traffic? Having fun so far single-player, seems like it autosaves regularly, but if my friends also get into it I'm wondering if I should take any added precautions, or if its just not a great idea at the moment.

If it's not too far out, you can often manage to recover sunken stuff by building something nearby and jumping into the water from high up.

6 people on a non-dedicated server is the most we've pushed the game so far and it fell apart pretty hard. Ice skating characters, graves vanishing, boats teleporting and disappearing. I don't know if it'd be better on a dedicated or if it's just a reminder this is indeed an EA game.

I'm glad they put in the console cause I'd be pretty disenchanted if I lost everything to a bug.

I'd be careful, people have been getting corrupted worlds/characters after the game crashing or improperly quitting. Not sure if that extends to random disconnects online or not but it's probably something I'd be wary of. Take manual backups to be safe probably.

That's a good idea, but unfortunately it flipped and flopped away from shore. At least I was able to recover the bark, but the nails hurt since my map is seemingly full of long thin strips of swamp with no crypts. I hope it's something that they address in a patch because I honestly don't see what I did wrong or how I could have prevented it. The physics of the water make it impossible to make any sort of safe harbor or port.

It may be this, but my portals are on the other side of my base from where the ship was.

It's not just the lost nails, it's the feeling that it's not worth building another one if it will just get randomly blown up again. At least let me make some kind of drydock or anchor or something that lets me stow it safely.

e: a quick fix in the meantime would just be to make all the components of it float in crates like the stuff in storage does so that at least if you can swim out to it you can rebuild it.

Thanks, yea, I noticed some of those posts. If its just me losing my character, whatever I'll back it up and play multi for fun and only care about my single-player world. If it sucks for everyone else while it waits for me to lag out, or compromises the world file on the server I'll just play solo. Only one way to find out!

I'm gonna go ahead and set one of these up. I've got a pretty nice seed in mind that starts you in an area that seems to be a generous 'island' of meadows on the shore, surrounded by black forest just to the south of world spawn with copper and tin deposits all along the shoreline south from there as well. If anyone's got any world name suggestions more creative than 'goonhalla' or 'goonheim' i'm open to suggestions. Once I've got it set up, I'll go ahead and post the details in the PGS thread. It's estimated to run at about $26/mo for a medium instance so if there's interest/activity in it after the 90 days I can probably cancel a few services I don't use so much anymore and keep it running.

I had the same problem, and the sea ate three karves back to back on me while also being very close to a portal. My go to now has been to just manually break every boat and keep the materials on the dock in a chest. You can stand on it and hit the mast with an axe to break them and collect all the materials as long as you have enough space/weight for them. Just make sure you have full stamina for the last swing, you can look at the health by pulling out the hammer and hovering over the ship.

Can anyone confirm if running a dedicated server improves latency or performance compared to having one of the players host it? I have been hosting a game world for a couple of my friends and the game does lag pretty severely every few minutes when the game World saves.

Trying to determine if there will be performance benefit along with the world continuity and availability.

The game stops lagging when the world saves, but other than that the networking is mostly p2p so any other lag can be caused by just one player and a dedicated server doesn't stop that part.
