Question for any of our international people in UK or anywhere else in Europe I guess. What big online parts providers do you use and trust? Running into all sorts of issues sourcing an alternator for the Fiat 126 because it wasn't sold here and it's a very unique design. Autodoc.co.uk has them in stock at reasonable prices, not great shipping prices but oh well. I'm down a rabbit hole right now trying to figure out if the diode pack is used in any other units that might be easier to source.

I'm in Poland at the moment, pretty sure I should be able to find one here and ship it to you if you want. The 126p hasa huge enthusiast base here.

So yesterday Mrs. Slidebite had an interview for the first time in 17 years. Position outside her industry/profession but it's something she's been interested in for years and actually earned a university certificate to qualify her for it as "something to do" 7-8 years ago.

Background: She was laid off of from her company that she has 17 years into. Other than laying off, they've treated her pretty well. They've had other layoffs periodically over the years, but she has always been spared. Pay is fair, and when I was transferred 13 years ago 1000KMs away from where we lived, they literally made a position for her in our new city. She didn't hate her job, but didn't love it either. The seniority and 5-6 weeks of vacation a year is nice and works well for both of us since I have 5+ weeks myself.

When they laid her off, the specifically asked her to keep her very expensive company work station at home along with her brand new company issued Galaxy phone. So, they are "entrusting" her with thousands of dollars of company assets even when she no longer is working for them. That tells me that they very likely intend to bring her back.... which bring the potential situation:

Sounds like she totally rocked the interview yesterday.

Interviewer told her it would take about 20 minutes when they started, but she was there for over an hour. At the end of the interview he told her he would call her by the end of next week but he specifically asked if she gets a job offer from someone before he gets back to her to please call him before she commits on anything.... So I take that as a pretty good chance she'll be getting a second interview and potentially job offer fairly soon.

Question:
If she gets a job offer, should she tell her old company to "give them a chance" to bring her back on before she commits to a new job?

My gut is "no" and just have that on the back burner in case she doesn't like the new job, but I'd be interested in the opinions of others.

Little late here, but fwiw the thing I would suggest doing depends on compensation at both places and if she wants to go back.

Call up old place, tell them you’re expecting to receive an offer at new place but you appreciate everything they did and working with them and wanted to know whether they had any interest in matching the offer.

Then do the same thing with new place - “I really loved interviewing, it’s a great opportunity, I’ve heard back from another position and while I’m really excited about this one I need to be able to make a decision based on what’s best for my family so frankly I’m hoping you can make this decision a real no brainer for me etc.”

Give companies precisely as much loyalty as they would give you.

They've already laid her off, so you know exactly how they feel about her value.

Good luck on both.

I put the rafters up yesterday, finished the siding, and drug my rear end to sheath it today. So tired, from well paced and slow work, and only a few hours each day. I don't feel so bad about not exercising and yes I understand if I had been exercising I might have more stamina.

I'm especially happy that the roof was 10 feet in the sloped direction. When I measured the last piece and it was 24" I was delighted. I made the overhang length decision based on what I could get from a 10ft board.

Boss and I went over my performance review. Took all of 2 minutes, basically "only one thing I think you can improve on, here's how I think you can do better, and your raise is <x amount>" (it's an okay raise - about 5%, but I'll have another one in September). This makes 4 raises in less than 2 years, so I'm cool with being nearly $3/hr higher than when I started. BS'd for a minute after, casually mentioned that I finally got scheduled for my 2nd dose of the 'vid vaccine. He asked when it was. Told him Wednesday morning after work (sidenote: I'm normally off Wed and Thu; I would have scheduled it Tue if I could have, but I got what I could get.) He asked if I wanted him to move my days off to Thu and Fri in case I wind up feeling lovely.

Yes, please and thank you. I felt kinda lovely for a couple of days after the first, and the 2nd supposedly makes you feel a bit worse if you had any side effects. That'll save me from burning any sick time, and saves him from being down a person one night if I feel especially lovely. I didn't really feel the side effects from the first one for a day or so (aside from the injection site being numb), but when they hit, they hit.

loving inventory tomorrow morning. Anyone who's worked retail dreads inventory. Anyone who just shoves tiny rear end bottles of hot sauce onto the shelves instead of properly stocking them has a special place in hell waiting for them. I spent 2 hours just straightening out the hot sauce section. :argh: We're SUPPOSED to stock completely to the back, then bring 2 up per facing (we also don't stack the faces even if they're stackable, unlike most stores). I wound up completely emptying out several shelves. :argh: Only faced the top and bottom shelves, plus ones that have stuff we sell a lot of.

Get to fix it all again tonight, but it won't be AS bad. Gonna have to do some vendor sections too, there's a few vendors who flat out don't give a poo poo how their displays look.

Yeah, on one hand I would have preferred to have that night off (as originally scheduled - my shot is scheduled at 9am, I was scheduled off, but my days off got moved over, so I work 10pm-??? that night), but OTOH I got hammered pretty hard about 36 hours after the first shot. This lets me work that night, and Wednesdays tend to be very light for us anyway. I'm fully expecting to start feeling lovely toward the end of my shift, but I'll be packing some acetaminophen (I'd prefer ibuprofen, but I've heard something about it not playing nice with the Moderna vaccine?). I have generic Celebrex from when I hurt my leg several months ago as well, if I need something a little heavier. I know drat well my left arm is gonna be hurting, and I'm still wearing a wrist brace on my right hand at work (not 24/7 anymore) since the Great Stair Slide of 2021, but my wrist is slowly getting better.

It's not a huge raise - a little over 5% - but it's still going to put me at a solid $37k/yr before benefits. The benefits with this company are outstanding, and easily add at least $5k/yr on top. It's not the best pay, but for what I do, it's definitely good, especially since I'm not even 2 years in. The cap on my position is a little over $50k/year - I'm just a glorified can stacker. And I'll probably get a similar raise in September, so there's that.

I'm scheduled for the Pfizer on Friday.
