Such a bizarre design choice... Maybe the fish lips are a way to work around the pedestrian safety rules and allow them to put in the fake pop ups?

Crucial MX500 is fairly standard rec for around $100/1TB. It has a SLC cache so it performs better than the BX500, especially as the drive fills up. You should at the very least be able to add a printer by tcp/ip address and then put in the ip that the printer has your network. Although these days there are the new fangled wps connections for printers instead of tcp/ip but I don't them in a corporate environment. What do you guys recommend for tax software? The free poo poo is being, so far, poo poo, claiming that we owe more that we did last year, even after adjusting our W2 to account for my daughter no longer being under 18. Owed $1400 last year, $2k this year. AND we would have to pay an “underpayment” penalty. Only the US loving government would have all the information necessary to make these decisions, make the directions and that information as obtuse as possible, then penalize you for them not jus doing this poo poo automatically. What a loving racket. Uh. /rant. Sorry. Wife decided to do taxes after I’d already had a long busy day. Thanks, hun.

Dentist visit went well enough. My hands hurt from clenching the chair but that's just my whole fear/hate of dentists in general. Gonna cost about $450 out of pocket to fix everything which is nothing considering my last round of repairs was $3000 due to no insurance. I'm genuinely curious what life without pain is like.

Congrats! My dentists trips are mild usually, one root canal was the only thing done. And still I find myself having to release tension every 5-10 minutes in the chair. Three different hygienists have cleaned my teeth twice a year for the past decade. I know how it works. I have no cavities. It doesn't hurt. Yet I slowly clench my whole back and core in the most comfortable chair ever.

The hygienist was super chill but I was still tense as hell. Three tiny cavities clustered on the upper right and they're going to fully replace my chipped filling. Next Wednesday, I'm anxious but really looking forward to this being in my rear view.

With my Brother, I just typed in the wifi password on the touchscreen, then clicked "add printer" in Windows. Boom. On Brothers without a touchscreen, you have to download their wireless config software first, then plug it into the PC. You configure the wireless that way, then unplug it, click add printer, remove the one it added when you hooked it up via USB, done. New dads: how hosed is your back? I've been having realllly bad stiffness and tightness in my low back from what I can only assume is lugging around a 24lb baby all day, car seating him, playing on the floor with him... either way, by the end of the day my back is done, only thing that kinda helps is a hot shower. I've been going to the same chiropractor for years - don't know how everyone feels about them but I think its helpful because its a deep massage and some intense assisted stretching - The doc I had was really helpful, genuinely interesting guy and just generally enjoyable to talk to. before Covid I'd usually see him 3-5x per year - Called to see how appointments were working with covid and as soon as I mentioned his name, I was transferred to another Dr. in the practice who gave me the news that my Dr. had passed away in December after a battle with cancer. Really threw off my day and made me sad - I got an appt with the other Dr and while he was good, he didn't have the same charisma and good conversation I had with the other guy. In other news, I found a pretty cool job I want to go for, went to apply, and quickly realized I haven't had to give a resume or show a portfolio in about 5 years, its all been reference and I've never had to look far for a job - I started updating it and realized that doing these is really loving difficult, and in reviewing mine from 5 years ago, man it needs work and having been on the other side of resumes and portfolios, I feel I probably wouldn't hire me either. I worked in the event industry, which has obviously been hit very very hard by the events of last year. Pretty much every contact I had has been laid off, fired or the entire events department of some of these companies completely shut down, so its kinda like starting from scratch. I've been lucky enough to get other little jobs that are design related that have kept me afloat, but nowhere near the income I had been used to making, but the fact that I'm not alone in this gives me some kind of hope. I spoke with several colleagues today that are actually in the middle of doing exactly what I'm doing right now and my dumb rear end goes and buys another car with money I really shouldn't spend.

Backs are stupid things. My story was going to a Chiro for my pain for months and it would stop pain a little bit but always returned just in time for the fortnightly appointment. I had to skip appointments to help with getting Grandma sorted in her new old folks home and bada-bing my back no longer hurt at all. I have been poo poo nearly 2 years now with no problems. I would go to a real back doctor and get scans/xrays and find the source, not treat the problem.

Dad-back is definitely A Thing, but don’t take it for granted, because you’re spending time with the kiddo. The worst was when my younger son was 9 months old and I’d just broken my pelvis so I couldn’t carry him around or play with him for like a year. In some ways I think it affected our relationship negatively as we didn’t bond the same way as I did with my older son. There are other issues like his difficulties in getting his thoughts out loud easily and my general curmudgeon-ness, but I can’t help to think that if we’d had better time together at his young influential age, it might have been easier to get to a normalized point. In short, relish the time you’re spending with the kids but definitely take a break/ibuprofen if you can, and maybe try an inversion table for a big stretch?

Got heating and hot water back, no gas hob until I get a new one, persistent leak even when off and I know they're basically unserviceable. So I get to shop for a new hob, might as well get a slightly bigger one as we've often discussed, oh looks like that cupboard will have to come out, leaving the tiling a mess, the worktop will need butchering too... So I'm going to have to do a hack job in order to get the kitchen back in a reasonable time. Awesome.

I did a bit of bicycle-related DIY, since I do 99% of my grocery shopping by bike these days. This surplus Russian medic's shoulder bag had been sitting in my closet for a while, after I replaced it with a soft-sided shoulder bag that's larger and more comfortable as a shoulder bag. The medic's bag has a stiff front and back, and is made from super sturdy cotton canvas, so it's a really good starting point for mounting various fastening hardware. There are a bunch of them for around $40-50 on Etsy and various surplus sites, probably a lot cheaper if you find them in a random brick'n'mortar surplus store. My 14" Thinkpad fits perfectly inside, so I'll also be using it when biking to work, once the pandemic is over. I already had some webbing scraps laying around from a worn-out backpack, plus some elastic cord left over from repairing the elastic in an old jacket. The only components I had to buy were the tarp hooks. The end result is pretty good, I had enough webbing to anchor the elastic cord and have a nice carrying handle. The bottom ring slips over a hook on the bottom of the pannier rack and the heatshrinked tarp hooks sit snugly over the top. I have another identical bag on the way from a Russian seller on Etsy, so I'll have two identical pannier bags KozmoNaut fucked around with this message at 13:41 on Mar 11, 2021 |

TOYOTA AIRBAG POLICE caught me the other day. Found this under the wiper: Just dropped it off at the dealer. Surprisingly they have the airbag in stock, didn't have to order it. Should be ready around closing time. The look when they saw the odometer (96k), then looked at the paint, then at the odometer again.... they asked if I wanted a complimentary car wash and detail, my answer was "no, I'd like to keep what little paint is left". There's no clear coat left on it except on the body panels repainted/replaced after it wound up as the spit roast in a 3 way wreck years ago (airbags didn't pop when that happened), roof is slowly turning into bare metal. I should probably just sand and spray paint the roof at some point to keep it from rusting. Elviscat posted:I'm surprised you have energy to post tbqh. I've been sleeping off and on (mostly on.. even fell asleep on the patio yesterday). There's a lot of stuff online about avoiding NSAIDs following a COVID vaccine (the science is still TBD, AFAIK), but I took one ibuprofin last night to deal with the injection site pain. I'm about to go pick up some acetaminophen (which is not considered an NSAID) and a few frozen meals. Having to wear sunglasses even sitting at my desk with the lights off and blinds open just enough to keep the cats from loving with them. And the dude that drove me back from the Toyota dealer was pretty chatty. I'm usually fine with that unless my head hurts, but at least he was cute, so I was willing to put up with him for the 10 minute drive. randomidiot fucked around with this message at 14:58 on Mar 11, 2021 |
