Exist, probably.

The main local river apparently is peaking at 16 meters over normal level. so that will turn a lot of places into a 15km wide lake

I got Moderna last week, kinda wishing they had J&J so I could just be done instead of waiting for the second week of April for the second shot. That probably looks like ungrateful bitching, it's not intended that way... I just want to be done and move on.

She gets her second one April 4th.

Really glad that she got the shot, I've been worried about her.

Sorry to hear about your home troubles. It seems like you're on top of it though.

When I was a kid my parents would leave me at our church on weekends when I was out of town because it was within walking distance of my house so I'd just go there as like a day care. Anyways, whenever I would complain about something the nun that took care of me, Sister Pilar, would tell me to consider what someone without legs would think about the complaint.

That always pissed me off back then, but as an adult it's oddly comforting and puts things in perspective a lot of the time haha. If you think about it, we are actually lucky to be able to work on our houses haha.

I will definitely be in the last group to be vaccinated, no underlying conditions or anything like that. What I don’t understand is why people are getting vaccinated and then saying “oh good now I can go visit my grandparents!” I thought that this vaccine reduced symptoms but does nothing against contracting the virus or spreading it to other people. Am I wrong here? Aren’t you just as likely to be able to contract it and spread it to your grandparents as you would be without the vaccine? The main factor would be that your grandparents get the vaccine so that their symptoms are reduced?

The recent results I've seen are that the vaccinated are immune from infection, but also don't transmit. And with two vaccinated people, the risks are minimal.

That’s great!

I just remember a couple months ago everyone (including “the news”) was acting like it would make you immune but none of the actual research or data coming from reliable sources could confirm that, only that it could reduce symptoms. I know that researching wether or not it could reduce transmission would take a lot more time.

Frogs. Or in Australia's case, cane toads. You think water clogs up the drains, wait until you have 15m of cane toads in the local river.

And for christs sake, get vaccinated. No corners were cut, the same number of people as any other vaccine were in the trial, that just had unlimited money and didn't wait between stages. We are God damned lucky that science had been prepping for this for years and could pounce immediately. gently caress, the pfizer vaccine was entering stage 1 trials in early March of 2020.

SF is doing tier 1c now which covers 18-64 with health conditions. As that includes being obese with the qualification of having a BMI of 30+ I’m eligible. The reality is also that they aren’t checking super hard so it’s closer to getting a weed card.

All my in-laws in Sacramento are vaccinated now (since their either elderly, caretakers, a line cook or work in hospital IT) so it will be nice to finally hang out together and not risk them getting infected

How? I am terrified of stuff like that.

Honestly I am not getting the shot for myself but for my kids. But I didn’t even think of it til after I confirmed my appointment but I need to travel for some business soon and to Japan once they open back up, and I’ll probably need a vax record anyways. So lunchtime tomorrow I’ll have my first dose up in me.

Staph is everywhere, it's literally all over your skin, and super common but it's also super super unlikely to happen. Wash your hands, keep the site clean, make sure they wipe the area with alcohol before stabbing and you'll be fine. I'm way more susceptible to stuff like this than nearly anyone else.

We're supposed to be getting a cicada invasion in MD too.

A few years ago some cicadas of a brood got confused somehow and started emerging early the house we lived in at the time had brick walls the little buggers left their shells clipped all over the brick.

You can cook and eat them!
The last big brood we had here some restaurants down town were experimenting with that.

The "you might still be infectious!" Thing always seemed like a CYOA to me, those effectiveness numbers are for "the virus is undetectable by a PCR test" how would you be infectious if you don't have enough of the virus for a very, very accurate test to detect?

I'm not a scientist or doctor though.

Yeah IIRC those numbers are "we don't have good data yet so just keep taking the same precautions" just like the thing about remaining masked after vaccination was, and that's slowly being rolled back now that data is leaning towards masks not being necessary for vaccinated people in groups.

I pretty much expected that, it's just cautious, data driven public health decisions.

It wasnt that bad, after you left I got to help put out the fire!

I follow a doctor on Twitter that's working on one of the vaccines directly and she was saying that vaccinated people don't spread it. They didn't have enough time data since obviously it's directly related to how long people have been vaccinated. She is now cautiously saying that vaccinated people don't spread it.

Modus Man posted:

Yeah, I think most people talking about visiting grandparents are implying the elderly got it first. I know that's true in my case. And the early reports are now saying that being vaccinated almost 100% prevents death, that's basically good enough for most people. I'm 2 weeks in to my first dose and I already feel 1000x more comfortable in any situation outside my house. They're saying even that makes you very safe, like 92% or something.

The best part is no longer arguing with people. Everyone has a loving opinion about this poo poo but now that I'm vaccinated I'm over it.
