He's probably certain of the fact he got it in the UFC bubble by the time-frames and dates of the tests he took, which he didn't share in his tweet. I hope he turns out fine, but there's always a non-zero chance he gets long Covid like Khamzat so fingers crossed.

Thomas Almeida was me breakout fighter of 2015, along with many others here, then he ran into Cody Garbrandt and was never the same. He was 21-0 before Cody. He's 1-4 since.

Disclaimer for gamblers – I am not a gambler. I talk about odds, but I use them as a talking point. When I highlight an underdog I’m not endorsing any kind of bet. Rather, I’m asserting that a fight looks more competitive to me than the betting line suggests. You’re responsible for your own decisions. Hey this is a bit of a weird card now. We lost our best fight and another good fight due to a covid protocol. We also had this observation: LobsterMobster posted:UFC 260 fast facts: Yeesh. Well let’s do this anyway Main Card: PPV Heavyweight Championship Francis Ngannou (-117) vs Stipe Miocic ©(+107) This is in some ways the platonic idea of a UFC heavyweight title fight: the guy with the extreme weapon (Ford Escort) vs the guy with the most complete skillset, possibly in the division’s history. Stipe Miocic is the most successful heavyweight in UFC championship history, with 6 title fight wins, and a record 3 consecutive defenses. That’s more than anybody. He also only has one unavenged career loss, but he has moved streets beyond Struve now. He got there on an impressively complete game: good enough wrestling, with good enough boxing. He’s good enough at either to frustrate a specialist long enough to bring the other to bear, and he typically brings the right game plan on fight night (Except maybe vs Cormier in their first match). And I mean actual good boxing – he’s defensively sound following an amateur boxing style. In heavyweight striking is defensive acumen the most important thing. And Ngannou is the guy who you need that defense against. Since 2016, Ngannou hasn’t won a fight that has gone past the 1:57 mark of the first round. He hits dudes and their heads fly off. It’s scary and insane. And that’s what he brings – big punches and a knack for finding that chin early. In their first fight, in January 2018, Stipe weathered an early storm to win the first round and take a 50-44 decision by wrestling the remaining energy out of Ngannou. In his next fight, vs Derek Lewis, Ngannou got the yips and lost a decision. Since then, the story that we’re told about Ngannou is that he has gotten better and more patient… but his fight times have severely dropped in this second win streak, which brings that assertion into doubt. The question of this rematch is whether Ngannou can either put Stipe away in that initial flurry, or if he will be able to have something for minutes 2 to 25. Stipe is extremely hard to hit when he doesn’t want to be hit, and the first match showed that Ngannou has nothing for stipe in the grappling game. Welterweight Tyron Woodley (+221) vs Vicente Luque(-240) A few years ago someone tried to sell me a ticket to a seminar with Woodley and his sports psychologist. I saved my money and history has validated my decision. Woodley was the UFC champ. He got there by KOing Robbie Lawler but then lost his belt to current champ Kamaru Usman and he has been on the yips streak since then. He can’t seem to pull the trigger and take advantage of his openings. He’s aging, too. Last time out he became the first person to be stopped by Colby Covington since 2016. Luque is a Brazilian violence golem whose 12-3 UFC record’s losses include Wonderboy and Leon Edwards. He brings the hurt and probably deserved a title shot ages ago, but here we go. Maybe this is his time. Bantamweight Sean O’Malley (-305) vs Thomas Almeida (+270) Almeida – a 21-0 killer with a 4-0 3 KO UFC record on the cusp of a title shot. Comes forward and violences at people and they fall down. That was him in 2016 before he got KOed by Cody Garbrandt, and he’s 1-3 since then. He has the yips. He needs this win. Last time out he lost a decision to Jonathan Martinez, who we saw get KOed by Davey Grant recently. O’Malley is a 12-1 hot-poo poo contender series product who loves the scent of his own farts. Admittedly, he looks good when he’s on, but he exploded his own knee and then got the poo poo kicked out of him by Marlon Vera after talking huge piles of trash, and now he is trying to act like that loss doesn’t count. Anyway whatever. O’Malley is a slick accurate striker with a good counter game who would be a tough matchup for the old Almeida, to be honest. Lightweight Khama Worthy (-120) vs Jamie Mullarkey (+120) Mullarkey is an aussie who had a great brawl with Brad Riddell, who was supposed to be on last week’s card but was pulled for covid. I can’t remember his style or anything but he’s 0-2 in the UFC. Khama Worthy is 2-1 in the UFC, coming off of a first-round TKO loss to Ottaman Azaitar in September. He has a submission win over Violent Bob Ross. Ratios and Tendency posted:Malarkay's style is tough and has a jab. I assumed he was some sort of grappler sub guy based on how bad Riddell beat him up on the feet but he isn't. Prelims (ESPN/ESPN+) Menifield caught covid in February so let’s reuse this: Menifield is one of those dudes who had a lot of hype. He’s a contender series prospect. He’s blacksplosive. But then, you know the story, after getting some first-round KOs, his opponent made it to a second round and then Mennifield died. And then here OSP KOed him with a loving highlight reel shot from hell in September. In September I wrote Knight is an 8-1 contender series prospect making his big show debut, and all of his fights have ended in stoppage. He won that fight by UD and I don’t remember it. Thinking about it, Knight’s last fight might have been one where he looked really good and terrifying for a round then stopped attacking. Note that the line hasn’t moved since the February bout, but Menifield had Corona so. As noted above, former Invicta Atomweight champ and UFC Strawweight title contender Penne has been out for a while because of some stanky pee problems. She is 1-3 in the UFC. She’s primarily a grappler. Hannah Goldy is an extremely muscled DWCS product. She’s 5-1, with a loss to Miranda Granger in her UFC debut. Welterweight Jared Gooden (+203) vs Abubakar Nurmagomedov (-225) gently caress which Nurmagomedov is this? Oh he’s the one who sucks poo poo. He got triangled by David Zawada in his UFC debut and hasn’t fought since then. That was supposed to be a slow pitch win for him to get a win in front of a Moscow crowd. Jared Gooden lost a decision to Alan Jouban in December. That’s all we know. I can’t remember Gooden, but I remember the discussion during that was “Geez, Jouban is getting old eh?” Early Prelims (ESPN+/Fight Pass) Light Heavyweight Modestas Bukauskas (+140)vs Michal Oleksiejczuk (-150) Not going to double check my spelling. Michal O started his UFC career with a positive chlomiphene test, and then later, KOs of Villante and Antigulov. He has since been Von Flued by OSP and kimuraed by Jimmy Crute. I don’t really remember much about the guy. Generic eastern European big man. His fights mostly look short and violent. Modestas is the Lithuanian who won the fight after the guy fell out the gate when his corner opened it between rounds. He looked good in that bout, but then less good being punched by Jimmy Crute. Robertson pulled out of their UFC 258 bout at the last minute so I get to copy and paste Cmon this should be higher on the card than the loving bullshit “who are these guys” fight. The Canadian Robertson put on one of my favourite bread-and-butter BJJ performances I’ve ever seen in MMA a while back, but she lost that glitter in a really unfortunate decision loss to Taila Santos back in December, where she just basically looked helpless. She is 6-3 in the UFC. Miranda Maverick is a prospect and a half. She’s an Invicta Phoenix Series Tournament winner who is yoked as gently caress. She beat her opponent to a brutal TKO doctor stoppage at UFC 254. This is probably going to be worth watching either way – either the young prospect gets caught by the BJJ black belt, or the super athletic strong girl wins by smesh. Middleweight Marc-André Barriault vs Abu Azaitar I don’t know what the gently caress is going on here. Azaitar is the brother of the dude who pulled off the weird potato sack heist in Abu Dhabi. He also was apparently suspended for 7 months for an anti-gyno drug, in February, but that was back dated to when he had the positive test, so he’s eligible? He has a 2018 win over a faded Vitor Miranda and some wins in WSOF. Barriault is 0-3 1NC UFC, with his one win being a TKO that was overturned because of, as noted above, Ostarine. A thin card outside of the main event, actually. CommonShore fucked around with this message at 20:29 on Mar 24, 2021 |

Last I heard she was, I wonder if she's giving that job away to come back to the UFC for (I presume) relative chump change. I have a hard time imagining Dana White letting her back in the UFC if she's involved in ONE in any way. Also last time I saw her fight she clearly stated between rounds that she can't do it anymore while looking outmatched against Rocky Pennington and Bryan Caraway had to convince her to just finish the fight before hanging it up.

I'm putting the over/under of how many fights end up on the UFC 260 card at 7.5. What would you take? It's still Wednesday and we're down to 9 fights.
