I was feeling nostalgic and wanted to watch Galaxy Express 999 because Amazon prime had it streaming forever then I see it's paywalled behind something called Viewster Anime. Here I thought licensing for 70s anime movies was dead

It's just one of the many a la carte channels that you can put on your Prime subscription. Amazon is not double dipping, per se, but is just letting you pay for more content that is owned by someone else.
