I think they're pretty chill with it a lot of the time when they're that filthy. When we scooped up my ginger idiot Tyrion he was completely covered in fleas and dirt. I ran out and got some flea shampoo and he got a dunking in the sink and was incredibly calm and almost seemed to enjoy it. Nowadays the big chungus won't even sit still for a nail clipping unless my wife does it, but he was totally fine as a newly abducted kitten. He did grow up to be utterly codependent, though, and insists on holding my hand.

One of my cats is an obsessive groomer, but not to himself. He's a former colony cat so I don't know if it's related. He will groom the other cat until he gets fed up and starts wrestling with him. I have a microfiber blanket that is very soft, and he will sit and lick it for a good 20-30 minutes when I am using it. I believe he thinks this is my fur so he must clean me  He doesn't do it if it's just sitting on the arm of the couch or whatever. He'll lick my bare arm. And some mornings when I wake up he will come sit next to me and lick my forehead. This is rather unpleasant but I don't want to hurt his feelings so cat bath it is.
