Because everyone can see you did the thing you are accused of doesn't mean that the trial that convicted you wasn't fair. Chauvin got all the neutral process anyone can expect, that he was obviously guilty as sin and all the evidence supports it doesn't invalidate the trial.

The right has a really hard time with concepts like this. See their continuous failing on separation of church and state and the first amendment.

Is there a convenient way to compare this to the Dem proposal to see what's different?

I heard some guesses a while back that it'd basically be a carbon copy of the Dem bill with every number multiplied by 60% and a few areas completely removed.

Joe Manchin is probably super pissed since he can't use this for any sort of negotiation tactic.. Like if they gave $1 trillion to ~traditional infrastructure~ or whatever he might try bluffing but this is pathetic. Hmm lets see

Gerund posted:

Its that $.99 that can be rhetorically rounded up to a trillion or down to a half trillion as needed. You could sell a decent chunk of people on anything with that much price flexibility, because even if the product was a rag on a stick you can trick them on the thriftiness of it being a Trillion-Dollar rag on a stick you got for half off.

So any guess in between literally half a trillion to under $750 will be the baseline for GOP imagination no matter what the answer is.

God I love young girls
I was looking around for a frame of reference, such as typical yearly spending on roads or broadband infrastructure, and came up short. The numbers seem low to me but I have no way to evaluate them -- they could just seem that way because of anchoring against multi-trillion infrastructure plans put out by Democrats.

Edit: I guess rail is a good example that I managed to find. Seattle's light rail extensions are costing $12.1 billion, apparently, which is 60% of the allocated amount for one city. So either the number is ridiculously low, its only for repair and not for building new infrastructure, or they only expect to subsidize a tiny portion of the budget for that line item.

Manchin and a couple of the less criminally insane Republicans (particularly his fellow WV Senator Capito, who is the main person behind this tiny package) have co-sponsored rural broadband bills. Manchin actually makes it a huge part of his website and has a form where West Virginians can send in their internet speed + what provider they are using.

Still, if they were directing this at Manchin in particular they'd raise that port/inland waterways number because West Virginia has a lot of those and the infrastructure is crap. Most of the towns in the state are lined up on the narrow slivers of flat land right next to the rivers/creeks so they are super vulnerable to flooding.
