Which is the worse rule:

Reaching first base after swinging strike three?

or

Fumbling out of bounds through your opponents endzone for a turnover?

Sorry I'm late
Is the origin of the dropped third strike rule known? It has very similar 'integrity of the game' energy as the infield fly rule. If you removed it, on a two strike count with no runners on, the pitcher could throw whatever ridiculous garbage they want and the catcher wouldn't have to make any effort to receive the ball at all.

JUST PICK ONE. ANY ONE.
The dropped third strike rule is good, and they should also bring back the rule that you have to pitch the entire intentional walk. Make the players finish the job.

it's been part of baseball as long as the strikeout has. The knickerbocker rules from 1845 on strikeouts/dropped third strikes

quote:

“Three balls being struck at and missed and the last one caught, is a hand out; if not caught is considered fair, and the striker bound to run.”

There was actually a time when intentionally dropping the third strike to get a double play ball instead was actually a thing, but that was mostly out of play by the 1880s.

Butt first, let's
check the feeds.

I don't think I ever even thought about the dropped third strike rule in the context of "good or bad", just "is." But now that I am while I think its lame for Means I love the idea that some knuckleballer could theoretically throw a no hitter he loses after giving up a bunch of runs on wild pitches or something.

I’m currently in the middle of a March to October where the Cubs traded us Rizzo for a bunch of AAA scraps and so far he’s single-handedly won us three games.

Make Rizzo an Astro, Click. I know you won’t do it because this is The Tank and you’re a loving terrible GM thus far, but do it anyway. Yuli ain’t gonna be around forever.

The dropped third strike rule is good. It's fun, it shakes things up, and it leads to great highlights.

The dropped third strike makes sense, you're only eligible to be out on the third strike so the catcher should have to make the catch. It's fundamentally baseball

the irony, as Sam Miller pointed out in his rant, is that the dropped third strike occurs on a pitch so good that it fools the batter into swinging at a ball well outside the strikezone

uh if you're basically guessing don't you have to give the benefit of the doubt to the offense? like when the runner is safe in the event of a tie at first
