Whenever I see Yngwie I think of Steven Segal. Mostly using his past image to sell things but in reality he’s a big fat guy obsessed with himself. At least he still has talent and isn’t washed up like Segal.

At this point, his biggest problem is thinking he can sing and not trying to find a new vocalist. But keeping a vocalist for any period of time has always been a problem he's had.

KK Downing still has some riffs him at his ripe age.

Stupid name though but I guess no one would really care otherwise if it was just KK's Band. That guitar in the end solo is scooped to gently caress - I wonder how it feels to play.

Altho not as insane as Karl Sanders lol

How do you even slide on that thing?

Snow Cone Capone
Jul 31, 2003

AFAIK the bit is, you play it with a lighter touch than a standard fretboard, so theoretically it should be easier to slide than normal, but I dunno about bends, seems like they'd be a lot harder to pull off.

In mine and a couple friends' experience, scalloped frets are something you want to switch to sooner rather than later, or you end up sinking your fingers way too deep and it becomes impossible to play. I borrowed one from someone for a few weeks and I absolutely could not get the hang of it.

If I understand it correctly, the action is higher on them because the actual frets are higher, so if you're playing it "correctly" you don't really notice the higher action. It felt like poo poo to me, too.

The bit, I guess, is that with the higher frets and the scalloped wood, you only need a very light touch to make a note ring out clearly.

Back in the day when Yngwie was still A Thing, I thought it was very cool and reserved for the best guitarists only, but like Kvlt! said about EVH, it doesn't really seem like there's any tangible benefit over personal preference, there's a hundred guitarists who shred faster and cleaner than Yngwie nowadays.

TBH I kind of feel the same way about fanned frets - gimmicky and really only useful if that's the only way you play.

I want one really bad tbh I heard they’re amazing if you play with a very light touch.

Lord Belial
Thulcandra
Bane
Cryptic Wintermoon
Ouija
Catamenia
Cardinal Sin(personal favorite, and an ex member of Dissection)

Most of these are fairly well known and I think only Thulcandra actually has Necrolord art, but this is the general vibe of what I consider bluecore

It's a necrolord blue cover but not actually bluecore.

Also I love the name bluecore. Easier to reference than "early blackened melodeath" and then the obliged follow up of "no no no it sounds nothing like in flames. It's actually good"

America's $1 Funnyman

There's that, plus just everything the writer Snyder has done in years is baffling. And The "Batman who laughs" is a ripoff of Judge Death, that's a crime too. He's had several evil alternate versions of Bruce Wayne revealed as key villains. The writing is just a most odious crime.

For multimedia licensed albums that do it right, I gotta give respect to Megadeth's Duke Nukem cover. And anything Blue Oyster Cult did for a B-movie, Bad Channels sure was elevated by their original music.

So I've listened to this song about a zillion times in recent days. And this video features King Diamond's dog. ™ Something about Diamond, the songs are just addictive. The riffs are really catchy, and something is cool about the structure, quite a journey for four or five minutes. Prior to this I was listening to Sleepless Nights a million times.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9o8FNVVFJE8

When that triumphant unexpectedly arena rock riff comes in, I can't even say how much it warms my soul. Something about it just rules. And this late 80s and 90s stuff they did is such a unique mix of smoothness and evil, some songs even have a hint of that 90s feel that Halford's Fight had. Long story short, I forgot Diamond was ruling as usual in that decade.

Any recommendations for jawdropping catchy riffs for the Judas Priest / Mercyful Fate / etc enthusiast? I guess more rock 'n roll influence in the mix?
