I doubt they expected industrial mining facilities and repurposed power plants to be a thing a decade ago. I mean if you're expecting the magic hand to efficiently allocate all these resources, you probably aren't considering what happens when it decides to throw a third of global energy production at computers solving brain teasers.

Should we buying into ETH now? In a reddit crypto thread there was a lot of discussion about how ETH is soon going to be switched from proof of work to proof of stake, which is supposed to make a huge impact on the amount of electricity needed to process the next child porn or human trafficing transaction. Maybe then all the "environmentalists" in this thread would lose the moral high ground.

I've been making fun of crypto for a lot longer than they've been firing up new coal power plants to power the stupidity. Bitcoin was capped at 8 transactions per second back then and it still is, and it's the number one crypto. The lightning network promises deserve a thread of their own and if you were around for that you'd be questioning whether ethereum really will ever transition to PoS. If the community had switched to one of the more modern (but still not great) cryptos I may have questioned my own beliefs, but given that bitcoin is still #1 I'm pretty happy making fun of lemmings hopping into the ponzi machine Andy Dufresne fucked around with this message at 16:19 on May 13, 2021 |

If you do not have enough money to buy a stake, then don't spend money on mooncoins that you're not mentally prepared to light on fire. If you have money to light on fire and are comfortable with the ethical implications of betting on crypto vs betting on pharma stocks or whatever, go for it. The Ethereum run up has paid off my RTX 3080 and at present I am working on also paying off the $1400 dishwasher we just got with it, and I believe this may be possible before difficulty explodes too much, but I still think the whole thing is really loving dumb and I do not regret cashing out .1 blocks at half the current price, because yea, it doubled, but it could also have halved in that same timeframe. Owning Some Five Digit Number in loving reserve list Magic The Gathering cards is about all the stomach I have for toxic assets, and, I only ended up in that situation because I held on to cards for a long time and now I am wondering if it's time to just sell them all to build a garage. I think if crypto crashes hard, Magic will crash to some extent, because these two markets are deeply linked, especially old "high value" stuff.

shame on an IGA posted:Has anyone mentioned Craig Wright is being allowed to move forward with a lawsuit against the bitcoin devs attempting to force them to change the protocol and give him Satoshi's Billions This is much less impactful than you think. Like any change in Bitcoin, miners have to ratify it and the community has to decide that the new version is "the" Bitcoin. This effectively means there are no real changes to Bitcoin. There have already been several forks by people attempting to solve the numerous problems with the system and they all get laughed out of existence. The Craig wright fork would be no different.

Yes, I actually rounded up to 3.9% The rest is "backed" by dubious, unnamed sources of debt (could be legit, could be nearly worthless). https://amycastor.com/2021/05/13/tethers-first-breakdown-of-reserves-consists-of-two-silly-pie-charts/

So you’re telling me they haven’t been managing to build $5 billion in cash assets every single month for the last 10 months? But that’s so surprising because they claim they have! I’m waiting for the moment the coiners realize that when they go to cash out they’re going to be offered Tether, not cash. 🤣
