I don't know if you can search for it this way but Julian Publishing basically puts their stuff on like, every platform. That's where a lot of the KU manga came from. They're a jp publisher so idk if it would come up in a search though.

Uh, this seems like the most appropriate thread for this. Apparently humble bundle is selling a bundle of yaoi and bl manga. I have absolutely no idea on the quality of the titles involved. https://twitter.com/humble/status/1387889652217126919 Probably could have picked a less awkward way to preface the bundle. https://twitter.com/humble/status/1388599220530262020 It's like i'm back in 2006

Thought about this last night but you'd get downloadable copies of all of those right? The ones out of the bundle I already own are mostly through sites you just have to use their reader for, so that is a nice bonus. If you aren't reading Simplified Pervert Romance you probably should be, it's really good (licensed by futekiya) and it's getting a 5th volume https://twitter.com/dotBloom_web/status/1388795405207408640?s=20

Hahaha, holy poo poo Scribd is bad. I mean sure, even if I had paid for the free trial period, I'd absolutely have gotten my money's worth. But holy poo poo what a bad platform design. I checked the app today and everything I'd saved to check out later was gone... Because they had all become unavailable, and won't unlock until the next subscription period. Even a couple titles I had started on suddenly became unavailable. Because they have an opaque content limiting system to prevent you being unprofitable, but they don't communicate this or show you limits or anything. Which just feels scummy when they aren't honest about it. There's still a bunch of interesting things available, but since they just showed that they won't think twice about ripping something I'm currently in progress in away, I have 0 interest in engaging with the platform further. What's the point of starting up this or that audio/book if there's a risk the platform suddenly goes 'ah ah ah, you've got to wait 2 weeks to hear the rest of this.' halfway through it? So what I'm saying is, grab the free trial to check out some of the tokyopop books if you're interested, but I don't think I'd recommend using the service in the long run. I assume stuff like manga and comics just makes the content/profit meter explode, compared to books where someone might grab one and be busy with it for a few days to a week, vs me burning through the 4 volumes of Fence! over an evening.

Oh wow I can't believe people are actually trying out scribd, that site has always seemed super, super shady, to me. It almost always showed up when I was doing some low effort searches for textbooks and even sometimes claims to have lecture notes from random courses when I'm searching for papers. It seems to have just way too much random stuff to be legit. And it has mangas/audiobooks/random stuff and basically nobody has ever heard of it before despite it existing for years?
|
# ? May 4, 2021 12:59 |

I mean, the service and offering is legit. It's just completely ruined by the psychopathic thing a lot of companies do where they cannot admit any weakness or flaw with their platform, so they try to sweep the whole content limiting system under the rug. Even if I had paid, I would have gotten my money's worth, since I blasted through maybe half a dozen or so Tokyopop books, plus the 4 volumes of Fence!. But yeah, I would have been more understanding if there was a token system or some form of visible rate limiting, having it be hidden just rubs me the wrong way. Also y'know, the fact that their content limiting system doesn't care if you're in-progress in a title when making it unavailable either. As for My Summer of You, I think I read a scanlation of it as well, it's pretty cute. But did it ever get a sequel or something? I vaguely remember it ending in a very 'oh yeah this'll continue in the next volume/series' manner. But I'm not sure if I'm mixing it up with a different series or not.

Looking it up, and that's what threw me, apparently the second volume is it's own series/sequel, so it's possible wherever I read it had them listed separately.

Now that the bones of Mangadex are slooowly rattling back to life (test, read-only version of their api is up, but the site itself will likely take a decent while longer.) I figured I'd rec a series I read a while ago and quite enjoyed: (And from a quick search through the thread, I don't think it's been mentioned in this thread before.) Restart wa Tadaima no Ato de / Restart after coming back home ( https://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=145462 ) After crashing and burning in Tokyo, 25-year old ex-salaryman Mitsuomi has crawled back to the hometown he'd left so long ago, and the family business he'd set aside. Nothing's really changed in the years since he moved to Tokyo for high-school, except for Yamato, a new face who had moved to town after Kozuka left. (And who is in the very elegant and not outdated Humble Bundle lingo: proper husbando material.) I find it a breath of fresh air whenever I find something that -isn't- another high school setting, it's nice to have some young adult leads for once. But I very much enjoyed it, it's a cute and chill little series of a guy returning to and reconnecting with his roots, alongside someone who lived there when he did not. It's scanlation only, but if you're here I bet you know how to find 'em. (Scanlated by Exiled Rebels Scans) The sequel/second volume has been translated as well, and is likely why the first volume got noticed and scanlated at all. E: Mangadex is readable through api, so tachiyomi works. though it'll be a while until group's can upload and update again. SubNat fucked around with this message at 23:29 on May 7, 2021 |

oh yeah that one is really really good! I think it also got a live action movie. just an unrelated side note: the The Master List of Legal Online Manga Reading Sites finally updated again and it's a bit more thorough in the webtoon and BL manga distribution department now (they aren't separated as such but I see that futekiya is on there now).

I've mostly posted about regular manga but one of my current favorite webtoons just ended (the main story anyway it's still got some bonus chapters coming): Unintentional Love Story Wonyoung gets unjustly suspended from work after getting caught up in a corruption scandal. But when he accidentally discovers the chairman's favorite artist Yoon Taejun living under an alias, he is tasked with a tricky new mission. Could this be Wonyoung's chance to get his job back? One of the things I really like about this one is that the characters' actions have consequences and they don't just get handwaved away to make the romance happen. It's also laid out more like a print comic so even though you still have the vertical scroll you get a full page of content with each scroll so the chapters feel very substantial instead of being 75% white space. I'd also recommend checking out PIBI's other comic I Have a Boyfriend which is set in college with a couple of former middle school classmates who reunite and an old crush is rekindled.

New link added to the resource post on the first page:quote:Indiebound.org - Publishers running out of print copies is a huge issue right now and if you missed getting a copy of a manga when it was first released, it's very likely you're looking at OUT OF STOCK notices at most of the big distributors. This site is a great resource for finding print copies of books that are still in stock at smaller, independent bookstores. It's also a good alternative to ordering from amazon, especially in light of how they keep de-listing BL manga for no reason.

Reibun Ike's Dick Fight Island came out the other day and not only is apparently every fujo in my little twitter circle going wild for it everyone else is too: https://twitter.com/SuBLimeManga/status/1392951350053326848?s=20 I wonder how much of it is being driven by the title alone lol. The original was "8 Warriors" or something and it definitely wouldn't have picked up as much meme-y attention as this title did.

The title and premise are enough to draw me in. The only manga (it's a manhwa but w/e) I've read as an adult is Killing Stalking and this seems like a good way to recover from that.

I'm going to pimp archiveofourown.org real fast. Yeah it has a lot of fanfiction on it which gets mocked as cringe but they are also a nonprofit that is immune to this kind of pressure. Nonprofts are funded by charitable donations which means its impossible for them to be blackmailed the way other internet websites are. I think the nonprofit model is a viable way to fight this dumb poo poo. Other ways will be found but that's a tried and true method. No one can go after AO3 because they have no sponsors, no advertisers, etc. They're a hardened target. Just something to keep in mind. It's harder for marketplaces but I'm not overly worried about this as people like porn and like selling and buying.

AO3 was also founded by people who lived through the livejournal and ff.net purges which was the same kind of bullshit. platforms are only too happy to use any excuse to nuke queer content if they think they can get away with it while sucking up to advertisers.

I don't read fanfiction much at all so I'm not really that familiar with AO3 other than "it exists" but have kept up with enough of the discourse around it to know it's doing a pretty important thing as far as providing a space that's not controlled by the purity police. Some of the sentiment I was seeing about the ebay thing was that people were potentially just going to ignore it and press on, since it will be difficult to enforce. Maybe if nothing else this will help kill "yaoi" as the common term in western markets for BL in better news: https://twitter.com/MangaMoguraRE/status/1394283612112031748?s=20 can't believe it's up to 18 volumes now
