Totally. The aesthetic and the actual genre are at odds with each other but I dig it.

Swae with the cool haircut and makeup on the eye looks dope though.

I kept wanting a harder guitar to become in after the first verse/chorus it kinda went the wrong direction with the acoustic guitar over the screamo part but I like it overall.

Cole album is fine, nothing I'm going to put into rotation, and not gonna change ones opinion on him, but he's not being nearly as obnoxious as he was on KoD

two interesting tracks in the uk scene

central cee is a grime guy that has basically blown up with millions of streams on his last album. blanco used to rap with harlem until he got his gang injunction after getting out. he's mostly been doing his own thing but i've loved basically everything. great link up.

would really appreciate someone in this thread explaining to me why i never like a jcole song. literally can never put my finger on it. i liked him on family and loyalty, i think. applying pressure is my fav song on the new album but he ruins it by yelling about nothing for like 2 minutes at the end

I have actual skeletons in my closet
cole will humble brag and yet be preachy at the same time. I like ATM because he's not really preaching, just rapping from most people's pov. But he normally goes the opposite way and be like 'men don't respect women, I know, I cheat my girl all the time with bad hoes.'

He has the superficial appearance of a "good" rapper like Kendrick but none of the substance or charisma. This means he ranges from boring, to preachy, to obnoxious without any real high points.

Eh, Cole has charisma, and is a good rapper.

He's just not a good enough rapper to overcome how he's a terrible match for his own production/A&R and general beat selection.

Like there are plenty of rappers who are absolute trash at beat selection but are like all time greats rappers/lyricists who can overcome it. Cole is not that.

Lmao Lupe used like "Strings 8" from his apple laptop and made one of my favorite songs of his. Cole does not have near that skill.

I think his charisma shines through much more when he's rapping with someone else, either on his own track or a feature elsewhere. Because usually those collabs are on beats that he wouldn't make for just himself, and it generally seems like he's actually having fun. He's at his best when he allows himself to talk poo poo.

With that being said, this is probably his best album since Born Sinner.

Sometimes, there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there. And that's Jimmy T.
I really enjoyed the freestyle Cole did before the album dropped over the ‘93 Til Infinity beat but I should have known that would eclipse anything off the album.

That beat is still loving incredible, shoutout A-Plus and Souls of Mischief.

yeah Carti just has that natural/actual punk energy especially on WLR. The swae lee track is just not even close and its pretty disappointing since I know skrillex can absolutely go harder on it.

J Cole's problem is his content. He's cosplaying as a conscious rapper and he tries selling himself as such but his lyrical content is bullshit. He'd be much less obnoxious if he'd just tried to be someone like Wayne who uses his skill to make clever, catchy poo poo that's largely "empty". That's why imo he always seems to do better rapping with other people, or like in that cypher someone posted-he's clever enough and checks all the boxes for being a dude with a decent enough flow and everything, but if you listen to the majority of his lyrics in his albums they're just bad. And his music is designed to bring attention to his lyrics so that's kinda a bad thing. He's not Lupe, or Kendrick, or billy woods, or any number of dudes who are actually able to handle deeper content.
