I just watched it and good lord, it looked like he deflated like a balloon. It wasn't as comical as Rolles Gracie doing the Ric Flair flop but that might be the most delayed KO I've ever seen

That's really odd. It kinda looks like a dive but maybe he just slowly lost his balance e: Oh.. Burgo's right leg was hosed up from Barboza's kicks right? That explains it mewse fucked around with this message at 06:08 on May 16, 2021 |

Thanks for this - something I noticed this time if you watch his booty/back as his center of gravity is shifting & he's trying to compensate for his balance being hosed up as soon as it happens and is leaning back further and further he realizes he doesn't have any control until it just completely goes. That had to be a really scary moment for him.

Chandler was extremely well-spoken and humble in the post fight presser. Gave lots of respect to Charles.

I think the UFC should probably start promoting fighters at least somewhat equally instead of going hard on one dude and praying he doesn't get sparked. Oliveira deserved the win etc, but he also deserved a lot more focus and respect leading in.

Not all the time, but sometimes UFC promotion feels like something WWE would do but they can't pick the winners. Ronda vs Nunes comes to mind.

I knew he was good but I hadn't anticipated him becoming as good as he clearly is now. He's genuinely a remarkable fighter even purely from a statistical standpoint. He's got the most submissions, obviously, but he actually broke that record a little while ago and has gotten more since. He's also got the most finishes in UFC history, eleven performance of the night awards, got the second most post fight bonuses, most fights between his UFC debut and first title fight, widest variety of subs and so on and so forth. He's also just cool as gently caress to watch. He's absolutely the sort of fighter that a decent promotional effort should have been behind. TheKingslayer posted:Not all the time, but sometimes UFC promotion feels like something WWE would do but they can't pick the winners. Ronda vs Nunes comes to mind. Which is interesting, since for her Carmouche and Holm fights, they absolutely hedged their bets and put a decent amount of promotion behind both Rousey's opponents.

I always figured that since Ronda didn't want to do media they just didn't bother with Amanda. This is all just my own speculation but they were trying to lure Ronda back and maybe UFC figured Ronda might see it as a slight if Amanda still got the same promotion time.

They wanted to push Ronda primarily. Nunes wasn’t even considered to be an interesting promo on the mic, never mind capable of starching their golden girl.

There's something awesomely cinematic about a guy that's been grinding away for so long getting in there with a fighter pretty much handed a title shot, making the huge comeback and getting the gold. Just satisfying stuff.

yeah it was a lot of good things coming together at once. watching someone gradually improve for so many fights, getting owned a bunch of times on the way to a title and never having a boring fight doing it, was good. dana's hand picked white american guy getting smashed by a brazilian who doesn't know english was also pretty good.

Just satisfying stuff. on top of him derailing dana’s chosen hype train, it was especially satisfying because oliveira was labeled, even by chandler, as someone who crumbled when faced with adversity, and he got to refute that in the most spectacular way and at the most pivotal moment in his career also he was just so drat happy. i loved it

Another thing is that apparently nobody knew what his nickname meant until he was in a title fight. Do Bronx joins the pantheon of coolest fighters with Poirier, Holloway, and TKZ.

Oliveira best pray that Conor wins because I can see a world where Do Bronx beats Conor or Gaethje but I can picture nothing but Poirier absolutely whomping him

i don't really get that logic, poirier is like mr technically good conservative striking and oliveira does incredibly well in that sort of fight, while this fight showed that he probably has some weaknesses to powerful imprecise blitzing, of the three of those I'd imagine gaethje to be the scarier of the three with conor probably in second because he can probably still land a one punch KO type dealio

Poirier would piece him up on the feet and has excellent control of distance and really good BJJ Gaethje is stationary enough to be clinched up, where Oliveira has found success in the past (he'd have to eat some leg kicks to get in) and Conor has certainly displayed some issues with grapplers in the past

Yeah, I love me some Do Bronx, but nothing about that fight made me confident he’ll do well against the rest of the top guys. Chandler was in inches away from finishing him twice in the first, and all of the top guys are super prepared for bjj specialists.

why do you think chandler got overconfident? imo he was most successful when he was confidently covering huge ground charging in changing stances with his chin in the air while the finish came when he backed off and settled into an exchange that oliveira won with a really nice left hook. i think poirier has a better chance against him if he does the first one.

I've got a buzz and I'll guess. He survived Oliveira having his back and hurt him. Spent the rest of the round doing damage. Probably figured Oliveira didn't have the heart to rally and paid for it. Chandler said in every interview I saw that Oliveira would wilt when he felt his power and maybe he believed that.
