Komi-san won.
I had no idea who Larry Summers was before a few weeks prior to the inauguration, but it is extremely funny to see him constantly trying to worm his way into the public discourse. It's also annoying seeing media outlets gladly giving him space to do that, and obscuring that it's always just him saying dumb poo poo.

Won't more young people just move to blue states then? Or is the GOP's goal to make every red state like Wyoming as long as they can retain the Senate and EC?

Setting aside the fact that people may not be able to afford to move to blue states, people moving to blue states helps the GOP because of how the EC and Senate work.

As an example, if you have a bunch of progressives/young people moving from Arizona to California, the GOP now has a greater chance of winning local elections in AZ, and their odds of picking up/keeping a Senate seat and being able to gerrymander House districts goes up, along with being able to give those EC votes to whoever the GOP nominee is.

Since California is already solidly blue, putting more progressives there doesn't help anything except for maybe some local races, since a Democratic presidential candidate getting a ton of popular votes in CA doesn't matter if the chuds win all of the flyover and battleground states.

leaving Abortion up to the states would cause such a massive legal shitstorm. There will cases from States trying make going put of states to buy a pack of condoms illegal to trying to give the death penalty to women who had a miscarriage.

I find it hard to belive SCOTUS would do that to themselves.

You're assuming that a majority of the court either doesn't want those things to happen or feels that it is their responsibility to stop those things from happening. I don't know that either of those things are true. Somebody like Thomas would probably follow his philosophical commitments to the point of nuclear war or something because he believes that they determine his choices to the exclusion of whatever consequences they cause. Barrett probably doesn't mind chaos and death because forcing people to give birth is worth it to her.

This ruling, even in a worst case scenario, would not give states the power to ban people from buying condoms in other states.

There are also already - legal - laws on the books that make intentionally killing a fetus through a miscarriage a crime.

If they actually banned abortion nationally, it would be bad for Republicans because they'd lose some moderates on social issues and Democrats would be very motivated. The evangelicals would find another issue though.

Hard to say whether gutting Roe v Wade without overturning it would do anything.

About 20% of LGBT people vote Republican for President and it was roughly the same for Trump. There was one exit poll that showed him with 28% in 2020, but every other one showed him between 16% and 20%.

Edit: It also depends how you break it down. Lesbian and Trans voters are overwhelmingly Democratic (90+%), whereas gay men and bisexuals are very Democratic, but not as overwhelmingly so.

That 1/6 Commission deal might be dead now.

The Republican who voted with the Democrats to advance it out of committee was one of the 10 who voted for impeachment and it doesn't include a probe of the violence during the BLM protests last summer. Some Republicans are mad about that.

It will pass the House, but several Republican Senators who previously supported a commission are now saying they will "wait to hear from" Trump on what to do. They don't want to create a panel to "give the government seal of approval to a smear campaign."

probably but they won't right now. my guess is if trump/senate chuds kill it. then they may legit just give minority seats to some GOP types and make a real commission.

yeah. there are a decent amount of moderates and independents and most of them are tired of the trump/hard right GOP shitheads. they want the quiet "moderate" assholes who mostly care about business interests and lowering taxes and such. none of these folks are in power outside probably some state level places. but they will either vote dem or not vote if trumpist poo poo continues.
