It's a scary world out there

Ryu

Ryu is looking about as good as Jack did after his battle with the Orc Lord. The pain has absolutely overwhelmed his nerves to the point where his brain can no longer process it; all that remains is a dim awareness that he's completely ablaze. The Red tosses him to the ground, and for the first time it looks like he's seriously going to stay down. "Not quite." From within the barbeque, a man hacks out defiant words. "Close, but not quite."

"Was a time when I thought you could just beat sense into the other guy. Hit him until he stopped being an rear end in a top hat. But that only works with two-drak thugs. The really tough foes, the ones you want gone, the guys like me...we get back up."
And slowly, agonizingly, Ryu Kazama does just that.

He pushes himself off his belly. "When we get hit, no matter how hard, we get back up." To his knees. "When we stumble beneath the weight of the world on our shoulders, we get back up." Up to a crouch. "When the biggest dragon the lands have ever seen shakes the earth with its stomp, we get back up." To his feet. "As long as we draw breath, as long as we have blood to spill, as long as we have a cause to fight for, we will get back up."

With his cloak burnt to cinders, it's impossible not to notice the dragon tattoo surge with a distinct golden fire, distinct from the blaze surrounding it. "Now that I finally have your attention, let me reintroduce myself. The young lady currently boxing your ears is Lina Callahan, heir to Jack Callahan, the stubborn old bastard who protected this Empire for centuries, dying only once he could take the Orc Lord with him down. She has all of his power but none of his caution, and your head would make a fine trophy." He rolls his neck from side to side.
"The one you do not see is Isaac Boreas, Master Necromancer of the Shadow Tower. He restored your former subordinate Pyrrhus from dust to a skeleton, then from skeleton to dracolich, and now your body is looking mighty appetizing. I don't know anyone more qualified on the subject of death; if he says you're dying here, you should believe him." He cracks his knuckles and strides toward the Red.
"Then there's Temur Ardene, Tesserarius of the Thirteenth Legion. You remember Foras, the people you swing by to decimate every so often? Well, they sure as poo poo remember you, and Temur has rallied every single man, woman, and child who wants a piece of you." He stretches his arms, first his left, then his right, then circling each in turn. "And I...

His stride slowly becomes a jog, then a charge. "As I said, I am Ryu Kazama, Guardian of the Geas, Dragon of Drakkenhall. I speak with the voice of the Emperor himself, and he says this land isn't big enough for the two of us. Together, all of us are the wyverns who battle wyrms, the mortals who slay icons! In case you haven't gotten the picture yet, then let my Rising Fist Technique do the talking! Let there be no doubt in your mind--!"

His uppercut connects with the Red's jaw with the impact of an explosion. For just a moment, fear enters the Red's massive eyes as the golden light bursts forth and envelops it briefly; the feeling of menace and overwhelming heat vanishes as Ryu knocks the iconic dragon clear onto its back.

As the Red engulfs the heroic, muscular, awesome Dragon Slayer Ryu, who is clearly the coolest, in a torrent of flame, Lina's battle-grin grows rictus. A strange light comes into her eyes.

Nap Ghost
The Red is sent flying by Ryu's blow, a blow compounded by Lina and Penitent's stalwart and ferocious attacks! Glowing hot blood erupts from his eye, and the ground shakes once more as the Icon roars in pain!
But from his back, the Red begins to beat his mighty wings, creating an enormous windstorm with every flap! The hobgoblin spearmen are sent flying backwards, and the existing fires spark and enflame with the dry wind! The floating fortresses twist and spiral, their helmsmen fighting for control! The HQ manages fine, but the other three fortresses are not nearly as experienced. One of the fortresses enters a spiral and crashes into the ground, sending goblins and debris flying.
Ryu, Lina, and Penitent are sent flying, though the veteran adventurers are expertly caught by their wyvern mounts.

The Red creates a windstorm! Everyone gets disengaged, the spearmen are stuck for a round. The fortresses are sent spinning, and one is destroyed!

The Red growls and raises its wings. It's going to try to take off!

Temur rides the windstorm from The Red's ferocious wingbeats send soldier and fortress careening through the air alike, shouting "Archers, loose arrows! Pin them down!" And then he spurs his wyvern steed forward, enchanted steel glinting in the sun and inferno alike. As The Red's head snaps around, shielding as much of his wing from the archer's barrage with it's well armored head, Temur and his blade streaks across the exposed and extended neck, the gleam from the moving strike momentarily overwhelming the Sun for the onlooking soldiers below. "If I cannot have my proper engagement, you cannot simply fly away! Not while I draw breath!"

Isaac Boreas

Possessing the immense strength of a red dragon and the unrelenting endurance of the undying, Pyrrhus weathers the Red's storm and keeps a steady course. The necromancer on his back, however, finds himself having to hold on for dear life as the winds batter him. As he's focusing on staying in the saddle a tiny glint of blue reflects in Isaac's eyes, and he has to blink a few times just to make sure it wasn't merely the afterimage of the Red's white-hot fire breath burnt into his retinas. As it turned out, it was not, it was indeed the signal from the sappers just as he had hoped. The void charges were set in place, and not a moment too soon.

"The time has come, but these winds..." Isaac projects his concerns directly into Pyrrhus' mind. "Take us to the fortress. Now!" Pyrrhus banks to the left and beats his wings, and swiftly makes his way to the central tower of the floating fortress, where Isaac hops off.

"Prepare to fire! Attune to the plane of negative energy!" Isaac yells over the howling winds even as his feet touch the ground, issuing his commands to the Slayers manning the arcane weapon. "I will not have a repeat of what occurred at the Drakkenhall Lighthouse." Noting that his robes were still very much on fire, he touches a nearby warding sigil inscribed on the battlements, which extinguishes the flames in an instant as he activates it. "The Elemental Annihilator must hit its target this time!" With hurried steps he approaches the weapon. "I will see to it myself." Making use of his familiarity with the energies which he drained from the Red a short moment ago, Isaac calibrates the Elemental Annihilator to target the Red's distinct life signature. "Let open the gates of death!" He activates the Elemental Annihilator.

Temur’s incredible strike cuts a gout across the Red’s neck, sending a torrent of blood that flashes into red steam in the air! But such strength can not go unpunished. The Red turns a glowing, baleful eye to the hobgoblin, and retaliates!
Temur is batted once, then swatted from the sky, rider and wyvern tumbling to the wasteland ash! His fur smolders once more from the Red’s terrible heat, unconscious... but alive!

With a smoldering ring left around the draconic Icon, the Red launches upward, retreating towards the sky...

The Red claws at Temur!
Miss, 16+ hit, hit!
Temur takes 190 damage and 20 ongoing fire damage! (save ends). He's down!
Red tries to fly away!

Except for the Bugbears of Foras, waiting patiently for the perfect moment to strike! Arrows, enchanted with stone form tips, rain from what seemed like empty ground into the Red’s wings and body. One could paralyze a dragon, and now hundreds rain on the Red, sending him crashing back to the ground.

Hidden Bugbears strike! The Red is taken out of the sky and crashes to the ground!

With the Red sent back to the earth, the armies of Foras prepare another withering hail of fire. The siege engines continue firing, creaking under the repeated strain. But the centerpiece of the Dragon Slayers HQ can now make its mark. A black bolt streaks from the roiling orb, enveloping the Red in dark purple energy. Scales curl under the glow, and the Icon moves with noticeable slowness and pain!

Annihilator effect: The Red is Weakened (the debuff) for this battle and will continue to be weakened (the narrative) for the adventure.
Siege engines deal 100 damage to the Red!
Flying Fortresses stabilize.

But despite everything, something deep within the Red begins to glow hot with fury. What could be next?

Ryu

"Healers, to the front!"
Just as the first claw finds purchase in Temur's flesh, Ryu calls out, and his foresight is rewarded. Before Temur's battered form even hits the ground, a group of ten goblins have assembled to catch him in a makeshift trampoline, which halts his fall briefly before he rolls out of it into the ash. The goblins are undeterred; several don fire-resistant holocaust cloaks and work together to put out the burns, while the rest furiously chant incantations to invigorate, revivify, and energize their incapacitated comrade. One of them, probably the squad's Decanus, barks a string of rapid-fire commands to the others in Goblin, pausing only to address Temur more formally: "<Tesserarius, sir, the Legatus has not given you leave to die! Get up or we'll have to beat our own asses! You know we can't be trusted to handle that!>"

It's not just Temur that the medical squads are attending, either: the Foras regulars and the Dragon Slayers' own troops have suffered many injuries, and Ryu needs patching up himself. Freshly invigorated, he charges the Red; the might dragon has its wings raised to defend against a new artillery assault, leaving its flank open to a wild slash from the Wyrm Chopper. "Going somewhere?"

His sword finds purchase! As he steps to fight off his burns, he takes a moment to admire his work, and marvel at the accomplishments he's aided in. United under the banner of the Dragon Slayers, their army is forcing the Red into retreat! But the best is yet to come: the iconic dragon does not yet know that it has nowhere to hide. The mighty hunter, for the first time in all its Ages of living, is now the prey!

Destruction piles on the Red from all sides! Glowing hot blood spills to the ash of the wastes, leaving puddles of glass and melted stone where they land. The Red is injured, bloodied, and vulnerable!
Except, at the last moment, the incredible power of the Icons. The Red calls on something deep, primal, and powerful. White hot flames tinged blue at the tips, cover the ancient dragon, forcing even the dragon slayers to fly back at the incredible heat. The Red streaks past the armies like a meteor, and with the same amount of power, sending the armies sprawling and the fortresses spinning. The Red's power can not be underestimated with such a display of strength!

And, you note with satisfaction or elation, fleeing in desperation.

You watch as the meteoric bolt that is the Red streaks towards the smoking volcano far away in the Wastes. Where, you note, the explosives are set and ready around the dragon's treasure horde.
Though you can't help but note the ragged, burned state of Foras' army. They fought well and did much, but it was at a terrible, terrible cost. Especially for the Hobgoblin frontlines.

Nevertheless, your prey has fled and gone to cower. Now you must finish the hunt.

Note for later, Red is gonna stay at 1454 HP

The Red finally escapes to what it thinks is the safety of its lair, and the Dragon Slayers' medical corps move out. Physicians, apothecaries, and clerics spread across the battlefield to assist Foras' wounded, dying, and dead, respectively. Despite his own wounds, Ryu is ready to plunge back into the fray, fueled equally by draconic magic and his characteristic stubbornness.

As the other commanders prepare for their assault on volcano, he bellows into the devastation: "Soldiers of Foras! It has been an honor and a privilege to witness your valor here today. You have faced an Icon and paid in blood; many of your people go now to Bane. But we do not mourn your dead, for we cannot do so while their killer yet lives."

He whistles for Goda, who is much more sensible than his master and has been far, far away from the action down below. "Legatus, I leave our fortress in your hands. Our people are yours to command as you regroup and retreat. In the meantime the work you have started awaits us. It is with your aid this victory was possible, and the Dragon Slayers will repay it when we return with the head of your nemesis!"

He mimics a salute he has seen from Temur: "Ad victoriam! Ave Foras!"

You make your way to the ancient, smoking volcano in which the Red makes its lair, leaving the fire and smoke of the pitched battle behind you. The brief respite is a welcome relief, but you know it will not last long.

The volcano itself is riddled with tunnels, carved out by magma in eons past, but Ryu's map helps you find the entrance closest to the Red's treasure chamber. The Toylson branded explosives are set to flood the Red's riches with molten rock, which should provoke the Icon out of its hole at the heart of the volcano. It is only a matter of sending an easy signal.

Except... As you approach and prepare to dismount, you see several goblins milling about the entrance. As you get closer, you see that they are injured. Some of them lightly, some badly. One of the larger ones, and thus the one most in charge, stands and waves you over as you land.

"Slayers! Problem, big problem! We finish bombs, have them all set... but some gobs want to see shiny gold! They say, only take a little... but then they change! Get mean, start fight!"

The goblin shuffles back and forth.

"One of them has the thingy that starts the boom! We can't set it off... unless you set bombs off manually!"

At the mention of "shinies" Ryu's mind flies, unbidden, to the memory of the Blue's massive hoard, the one protected by golems programmed to kill would-be robbers. Avaritia Gula, indeed. But how would an agent lay such a curse without the Red's notice? Perhaps it consented to the ritual?

He shakes his head and slaps his temples. Thinking about such things is not his strong suit or his role. He places a firm hand on the goblin's shoulder (slowly, so as not to break it) and nods. "You're a brave soldier indeed, waiting in the enemy's lair to give your report. Wouldn't you agree, Tesserarius?" He moves into a huddle with Temur and the others.

"Ardene, give the kid your orders. We're going to need serious preparation to pull this thing off."

Temur Arderne

Temur responds with a grunt to Ryu before turning to the squad of goblins, using his native tongue. "Good work soldier. We'll handle it from here, get your squad out to a safe distance and standby. We'll send any of those that can be saved out the same way we came in."

Turning back to the group and switching back to the 'common' tongue of the Dragon Empire, Temur points at Isaac. "Is it possible for some of your... lackies, to stay here and 'manually' detonate the charges on the proper signal without impacting your combat capabilities?"

Decision made, you make your way into the volcano. It smokes steadily, though right now there are no rumbles or threatening roars. Somewhere inside, the Red is recuperating from its battle with Foras' armies. Now you make your way into its layer to finally finish it off.

Ryu leads the way, though each of you has studied his map extensively. The twisted, lava carved passages would be an impossible maze without his Silver-given insight. However, no knowledge could have prepared you for what you come to see as you make your way to the treasure chamber.

Gold, riches, ancient armors and masterwork weapons, first edition tomes, enchanted bottles of vintages from previous Ages. Your heart's desires, your wildest dreams, everything in between. The Red has persisted through all the known Ages and beyond, and what he keeps in his personal hoard speaks to that incredible power, longevity, and greed.

Among the mountains of gold and riches, the Goblins admire and play among the armors and coins. They're in their own little worlds. One of them has a small, runic box at his hip. The detonator!

He seems nearly catatonic now. It should just be a moment's work to grab it, or indeed the goblins, and walk out.

Why, it's so easy, that you should probably pick up some things while you're here. Why, some of these weapons could fight an army by itself. And the riches! Your paltry third of the Blue's bank seems like pocket change. Clearly you have time to take some things...

Wisdom Check, everyone! 24 or less you're pretty hosed, 25-29 you are momentarily enraptured (a length of time according to narrative needs), 30+ you shake off the call of hoard!

Isaac finds himself drawn to one of the tomes. "Necromancy and the Raising of Undead, A Treatise, First Edition!?" His eyes go wide and his grin goes manic as he picks it up. "This must predate the Archmage's censorship! The knowledge inside must be highly dangerous, not to mention unethical, and useful indeed!" He waves dismissively with his hand at the others. "Go get what we are after, I need a moment to peruse this."

Ryu

Ryu can't help himself from admiring the trove. The Dragon Slayers have more gold than anyone could possibly need, but wasn't Sellie mentioning that funding a war is burning through their coffers at an alarming rate? Perhaps a few of these old High Rock coins--

"You're full of poo poo. Kazama, stabbing my father in the back?"
"That's just it, he didn't stab the Chairman. He literally stormed into the room, there was thunder and lightning and all kinds of magic, never seen anything like it. And then he was gone, and everyone but me was ash. I scarce believe it myself, but you see the scorch marks on this silver."
"So Kazama is some kind of sorcerer assassin? What the poo poo, Ken?"
"I have no explanation, Eiko. I only know know what I saw, and I saw my friend kill his own boss. May Kohryu strike me down if I lie!"

"...strike your rear end down all right, Selentir!!" Ryu stirs from the brief vision with sword already in hand. He shakes his head vigorously and looks around. "Damned witchery. Temur, Isaac, Lina! Stay vigilant!"

Seeing the goblin trapper writhing at his feet, Ryu begins searching for the detonator. Apparently, not even hallucinations of a dead dragon can dull his threat awareness and instinctive reactions. This time, the life his iai strike saved was not his own; if he had removed Wyrmcutter from its scabbard before entering the chamber, the poor soldier wouldn't have a forehead to clutch in pain.

No, what's truly worth a delay is this!" And Temur points past Isaac, above and hanging above the hoard, a well preserved tapestry, laden and rich with symbols of Foras and its legions. "This tapestry was thought lost when the Sorcerer King sacked our capital! Not only is it a piece of our history and pride, but the pride of our crafts! The pride of the people of Foras, unmarred by sorcerous destruction! Unmarred by the ravages of dragon fire! This must be recovered!"

Isaac, Temur, and Lina roll initiative! I got Ryu's on Discord, but y'all are surprised right now.

Ryu shakes the hobgoblin, but its to no avail. And in his frustration, Ryu fails to notice the piles of gold and gems begin to shift by themselves...

Only when a shadow creeps across the golden floor does Ryu turn, only to see a looming, golden monstrosity rise out of the hoard! Its eyes are gems, and shimmering gold coins form into the clinking, shimmering visage of some vicious amorphous beast! But already the beast lunges forward, nearly burying Ryu in an avalanche of ancient treasure!

Hoard Guardian rolls 30, beating Ryu's Initiative!
Hoard Guardian engages, batters Ryu with treasure!
31 hits hard, 28 hits! Ryu takes 192 damage!

But the other Dragon Slayers are too enamored with the glint of wealth to notice just yet! And even worse, shades begin to crawl out of the treasures, the spirits of the greedy who fell to the hoard's curse! The spirits gaze with malevolent ghostly eyes and grasp with darkened hands.

Isaac, momentarily, looks up. The scene before him shakes something at his core, but he can't seem to control his body...
But Temur and Lina have it worse. They grasp at the treasure in their hands, fighting off the spirits that approach... but the wildness in their eyes shows a paranoia at their core. They're only out for themselves right now!

Ryu is up! Isaac, Temur, and Lina are surprised! Escalation is at 0.
Temur and Lina are called by the hoard! They can ONLY attack the greedy spirits and CANNOT use healing or buffs on other people.

"Sonuvabitch--offa me!" It takes Ryu a moment to free Wyrmcutter from its sheath, and that's plenty of time for dozens of razor-sharp gems to pierce his flesh. He flexes every muscle in his body, ejecting from an assortment of what now look like rubies. "I've seized enemy treasure before, but this is just ridiculous."

The once-familiar flames that emanate from Ryu now take a different form. Rather than the blue-white or crimson dragonfire of battles past, the air around him warps with visible heat that seems oddly colorless. Or is it? Perhaps it's a trick of the light that a glint of crystalline red seems to surround the Dragon of Drakkenhall as he throws himself at the hoard guardian. In any case, the aura soon fades; he swings thrice and is deflected as many times by the thing's armor of gold and jewels. "Temur, I need--oh, drat it. This is gonna be painful."

Things are looking worse and worse for the Dragon Slayers, as the madness of the gold-lust prevents you from working together. The grasping hands of the spirits encroach from all sides, clawing at everything you own! Their weak strikes are no problem for your battle-hardened selves... except, unfortunately, for Isaac, who finds himself dangerously battered by clutching ghostly limbs!

The arrival of the spirits and the sound of swords against gold wake your instincts. Isaac shakes himself from his reverie and breaks the enchantment, seeing the state you're in! But Temur and Lina are more concerned with their riches, battling the spirits for their lucre, but unseeing of the way the treasure itself was their true enemy.

The hoard's ever-shifting maw simply refuses to release the sword, and its owner refuses to let it go. "Come now, your master will appreciate this so much more," Ryu grunts. But in his battered state, it's a strain just to keep the hilt in his grasp. Inhaling sharply, he glances at his comrades. "Temur, Lina, pull yourselves together," he snaps. "You're trained veterans, act like it! Steel yourselves once more, Slayers; we've an Icon to kill!"

His mighty roar echoes through the chamber; jewels fly, gold spills, and pieces of rock fall, as if an earthquake struck within the volcano just as a tornado hit outside! It's not just the sound that can be felt miles away; the Dragon of Drakkenhall's terrible might seems to reverberate even through the ethereal plane, causing the incorporeal hoard spirits and shambling hoard guardian to falter briefly. Seizing the moment, Ryu yanks Wyrmcutter free just in time to chop through a boulder hurtling his way. The bottom half falls harmlessly to the ground, while the top smashes into a million pieces against the hoard guardian. There's enough time for two swift cuts before Ryu backs away to reunite with Isaac.

"Somewhere in that beating, I completely lost my sense of smell," Ryu comments to the necromancer, "and I can't tell if it's my nose or my brain that's broken. Any healing magic you can spare?"

Temur Arderne

Temur blinks, the (metaphorical) scales falling from his eye. And yet his face turns a deeper crimson as he howls an inarticulate battle cry, surprising even the spirits with the sudden pressed ferocity of the hobgoblin. With a flash of steel Temur turns and cuts through one of his spectral foes before following with his shield, bashing the spirit bodily up and sending it through the air to crash nosily into the hoard next to its fellows surrounding Isaac, golden coins sent spraying through the air from the ghost's impact. Whether it be from greed or confusion from the physical interactions of their fallen comrade, a spirit is left wide open for Ryu's blade to quickly cut it down.

Isaac Boreas

Pyrrhus glares down at the spirit that struck him and gathers his breath, but before he unleashes it he arcs his neck around to blast the last remaining spirit next to Isaac instead. "I know how much you dislike being disturbed while you fiddle with your magic tricks. You're very welcome!" The undead dragon chuckles.

Isaac responds to Pyrrhus with a sour smile as he concentrates on his spell. "I would say that your sense of smell is one of our lesser concerns at the moment, Ryu!" He replies even as he focuses on a nearby spirit and holds his hand out towards it. From each of his five fingers a softly glowing incorporeal tendril shoots out and attaches to it. "Besides, you appear to be holding up just fine..." He violently snatches his hand shut, causing the spirit to tear apart and scatter into nothing.

Pyrrhus Standard: Fiery Breath attack vs Greedy Spirits.

Stop it.
Stop all this nonsense.

Nap Ghost
As Isaac turns to face the huge mass of moving treasure, he finds himself staring directly into its gemstone eyes! Isaac finds himself briefly consumed by flashing images... Books! Fancy robes! The finest in magical reagents! Isaac clutches at his head and forces himself to look away, which breaks the brief enchantment.
Except, to his horror, Isaac finds he no longer has his Obsidian Orb! It bounces away and seems to be immediately consumed by a mound of gems.

Hoard Guardian fixes Isaac with a horrid stare!
32 vs MD hits! Isaac takes 30 damage and drops his obsidian orb!
A standard action is needed to retrieve the orb.

But everyone else is too wary of the giant golden monster to be concerned with magical trinkets. The beast surges forth again, tearing towards Ryu with shocking speed. Ryu is once again slammed by a fist of ancient armors, but the Stalwart rolls with the punch, easily avoiding the followup slam and jumping upright.

Hoard guardian surges forward, engages Ryu!
Smashes with treasured fists! 29 hits, Nat 1!
Ryu takes 90 damage!

The greedy spirits that remain fruitlessly toss themselves against Temur's shield and Pyrrhus' red dragon bones, but have nothing to show for the effort.

Spirits claw at Temur and Pyrrhus!
22 misses, 21 misses, Nat 1. No damage!

Things are, barely, looking doable. But the ancient hoard of the Red has claimed countless, countless souls. More spirits, eyes glowing with ancient, unfulfilled avarice, form in the shadows of the piles of treasure. The guardian needs to die!

Another 5 hoard spirits appear!
Everyone is up Escalation is at 2!

Ryu

Another day, another mortal wound that would have entirely obliterated a lesser man. Yet even the Dragon of Drakkenhall has his limits, and they are fast approaching. As he tumbles backwards and back into a fighting stance, his foot catches something beneath the piles of wealth. Cautiously, Ryu kicks at what turns out to be Isaac's orb. "Butterfingers. That's no way to treat an ancient artifact of limitless power." He checks his surroundings briefly; more than enough time to make a scene before returning it. He grabs the orb and gives it a quick spit-shine on his trousers before holding it aloft in a poor imitation of Isaac: "Gwah hah hah! I'm Isaac Boreas, most arrogant and hifalutin' student of the Shadow Tower! Life and death are mine to command! I hold the favor of the Lich Ki-"

A great surge of cascading negative energy bursts forth from the orb, engulfing Ryu. "Wizard King, my mistake," he shouts, but he can't even hear himself as millions of souls the One-Eyed Lord has claimed over the Ages repeat their death cries in unison. "drat it all, this isn't the time! I've an iconic dragon to hunt here, Majesty; chastise me later or kill me now!" The screams and energy abruptly stop, and a soft chuckle comes through the orb. "Your audacity amuses me, whelp. For the moment you truly are in my favor. Do not waste it."

Immediately Ryu feels the day's toil wash away from him, but it's small comfort. Eager to be rid of the accursed thing, he hurls the orb back toward Isaac with every bit of his strength, and misses entirely. Or does he? The orb bounces off a reinforced section of wall and hurtles directly back at Ryu, who scarcely has time to duck as it ricochets off the other side of the chamber, through a group of wraiths that disintegrate when it passes, into the ceiling, and off the top of the hoard guardian. At long last the stops at Isaac's feet, pelting not only the necromancer but his pet dragon, Temur and their assailants with magically energized coins. When all is done, the wraiths are utterly obliterated, and whatever spirit animates the shambling treasure hoard is noticeably less, well, animated.

Ryu surveys the carnage. He's just as visibly surprised at his own strength as the others, if not more so. "Probably for the best I was never much into sports," he mumbles.

Quick: Ryu regains 4 recoveries from the orb
Standard: Mountain Splitter. Targets 2 groups of 4 enemies
Narratively I'm using an artifact to attack, so figure +4 attack/damage instead of +3 from the sword

Attacking the guardian: 38 Hit!
Attacking the new mooks: 37, 31, 40, 39. 3 hits and a crit!!
64 damage per hit. The Guardian takes 64 ongoing and is stuck, normal save ends.
Each wraith takes the damage individually, so the two hits and crit wipe out the whole mob. Extra damage and 4th hit spill over to the other mooks, wiping all of them out as well.
Allies engaged with the target take 1/4 damage; that's just Temur taking 16 damage since the 4th attack was redirected to the mooks nearest him.

Isaac Boreas

"RYU! Have you lost it entirely, you muscle-brained fool!?" Isaac recovers the obsidian orb and quickly inspects it for any cracks. While it was unlikely that physical force alone would be enough to cause any real damage to it, he dreaded to think what would actually happen if a focus of its magnitude were to shatter. Thankfully it seemed as flawless as when he first acquired it. He looks up from the orb to glare at Ryu with wide open eyes. "My dear comrade, if you would be so kind... DO NOT SUBSTITUTE MY ANCIENT ARTIFACT OF LIMITLESS POWER FOR A RUBBER BALL EVER AGAIN!" He turns his head to the animated pile of treasure and snatches at the air with his free hand, ripping a sizable chunk of its life force away, then releases it into Ryu. "Now get back in there. We have a volcano to detonate."

Pyrrhus, in the meanwhile as Isaac is having a minor breakdown over his magical focus, leaps at the hoard and crashes into it with his sizable bulk, sending gold flying every which way.
