Edit - I need to ask, is "horizons" still fully functional as before complete with good renderer? Is it just "odysser" thats clearly a broken unfinished alpha or did they break the whole game? The BGS stuff, missing rep reports etc makes me wonder if its the whole game.

Horizons is still fine and hasn't changed on a technical level. Anything FDev breaks server side will still affect it though (BGS like you mentioned, and carriers were blocked from jumping on purpose when the servers poo poo themselves on Odyssey launch day, but they work now)

I see it now: the game should remain irretrievably broken because that's what anarchy means and what all anarchists, both fictional and real, want. I hope they also fail to fix the mission boards while we're at it.

Done.

Also I really enjoy the new ground content a lot more than I thought I would. But the full extent of the grind is coming into view and it is soul-crushingly absurd. I've put in some decent time since release doing nothing but ground missions. I did some system hopping to get a jump start on upgrades (G2 suits, G3 plasma weapons) and now I'd like to do some missions to unlock engineers and upgrade stuff and wow. I still haven't found enough materials to make a single upgrade of anything, even G1 stuff, using solely what I've scavenged. And I painstakingly strip places clean whenever I have a mission. Now granted I've hoarded tons of other junk which I can trade away at the bartender which would let me do either a single G3->G4 upgrade or maybe a few G1>G2. But that would basically decimate my inventory and I'm not sure what I'll need for engineer modifications.

Speaking of, I don't see how I'll ever get them unlocked unless a straight-up exploit is found a la reloading jameson's crash site. The initial 3 aren't bad but some of the introduction requirements get insane. Hero Ferarri wants 5 Settlement Defence Plans. I download everything everywhere and I have yet to find one, and they don't show up as mission rewards. I finally managed to get enough push for Domino Green, but to use that next engineer I need to sell Forty (40) opinion polls to a bartender. After playing since Odyssey release I just found my first opinion poll last night while cheesing for Push. I will never, ever find that many just doing missions and playing the game.

IMO ground materials and engineering are totally hosed. I like having long-term goals but they should at least feel obtainable. I want to log in and play but it feels like a single upgrade I want is at least 50-100 hours away at best so it's like why even try for it? And I'm still not even sure how to target the thing I really want (night vision).

There are a massive number of players who have put thousands of hours into their anarchy factions who have found that they have lost over a year of progress in the last week alone. Clearly, fdev isn't the problem here, because all that has really happened is that more anarchy has been introduced, making the game better rather than worse. The BGS isn't broken, and player factions have no right to complain about what isn't broken.

I mean, it's the same work that they were doing for the last several years and the same work they'd be doing either way. It's just depressing to have your progress rolled back not because of how you played or how someone else outplayed you, but just because the game stopped working right.

It's not generating more work, it's an unstoppable tide of lost influence every day. While before most of our systems were stable and occasionally one would take a big hit and need countering, since Odyssey we've been losing 10% a day every day in half of our systems. We've been pushed into 7 simultaneous control wars which is just insane, rarely we've had 2 on the go at once when we're going hard on expansion.

I... don't think this is true.

Unless this gets fixed, we probably just get tanked right back to our home system. If the local anarchists are a significant proportion of the local feetman pirates, there's gently caress all we can do to stop people from just killing DF NPCs constantly in any system we occupy that has ground bases, which is most of them, and that kills our influence way faster than we can respond.

It's hurting all anarchy factions, specifically anarchy factions. Code, Dragons of San Tu, EPOTA, Eurybia Blue Mafia etc. Every single bit of Odyssey content specifically fucks over the local anarchy factions - including missions for them because the game draws all the NPC antagonists and cannon fodder from the anarchy pool, rather than splitting it between the other factions and nearby systems like space content does.

Also settlement missions take place within the jurisdiction of whatever faction owns that settlement, completely ignoring global system control. This means the only system of protection we had, the inability to cash in bounties which hurt us, has been removed. We also suspect every single footman kill counts like a ship kill. So combine the fact that 90% of hostile feetmen are anarchy aligned and that FPSes are a genre pubbies can actually play moderately competently it's having a blanket unstoppable effect.

It's always been the most difficult minor faction government type to support, but it's now completely impossible. If it carries on like this it'll be bad for everyone, even people who don't care, because there won't be anywhere to buy e-breaches, pay fines or collect ship materials without incurring bounties.

(some of the above is speculation, only Fdev can know exactly what's happening, and half the time they don't either so... vOv)

You know, this is kind of weird. Imagine you're roleplaying an Imperial soldier, who wants to help defend the local system against Fed intrusion. This system basically means that soldier will kill tons of random pirates, but never actually see one of their enemies. Just some randoms dropping dead while some invisible influence ticker goes up on whoever's side the mission was for. It's like instead of war, we have some strange pirate killing competition

Voted that issue in the tracker. It's making noise on the forums too, so chances are it'll be addressed in some way.

And you should visit the forum thread btw. It's getting hilariously sidetracked by a guy who apparently got banned, and created a new account to explain to everyone that they're idiots that don't understand how anarchy systems work and that he always soloed it and it's all fine for him. Basically a you problem.
