That's pretty much what the news said too :v:. The short version is it SEEMS to be the family that popped up to NSW's for a sneaky vacay. Though of course that just raises further questions.

The real concern is it potentially got into a school in North Melbourne, and the Delta variant IS one that can do a number on kids as well as adults, so there's 300-odd students now waiting to find out if they've got it :ohdear:.

There were a ton of high profile people in attendance as well as 3,000 outside. If he was after a way to get off the streets for a few days, he picked a good one.

Lol, that's not just a flight thing. I've seen SO MANY boomers walking around dicknosing their masks. Even a couple with the faceshields before the mandate, thankfully, came down that those are a no-go.

Also dicknosing is a loving brilliant description.

It's weird. I don't go out much but when I do it's mostly old people and ethnic minorities I see wearing masks.

Also, tell your parents to get vaccinated against shingles if they've ever had chickenpox (they almost certainly have). The vaccine is only free if you're 70 and over but it's worth the $200 if you're not to avoid my current misery.

Shingles vaccine is only free for people 70 and over and only the live vaccine is available in Australia.

Only people who've had chickenpox can get shingles, so it should become less common over time as we've been vaccinating Australian children against chickenpox for over 20 years now. My eldest two had chickenpox before there was a vaccine available.

I would recommend it. Shingles is nasty and you can get it more than once.

Mine started 10 days ago and most of the rash is only starting to blister now. I still have to wait for it to scab over and heal. It's not as painful as it was initially, but there's still quite a lot I can't do.

I have court next week and I got my paperwork 4 business days before the court date because qld police prosecutors are lazy cunts. Nothing too serious but according to the QP9 court docs I have a graffiti charge I went to court for in 2011 and have literally zero memory of. I'm not going to say "don't smoke weed every day" but uh, potentially consider this when you are thinking about smoking weed every day and then decide if it is right for you.

The worst is waiting to find out whether I'm going to be in the 15% of people in whom the pain continues after the rash has healed. That post-herpetic neuralgia never goes away in some people, which is a damned good reason to be immunised against shingles.

Thinking of you mate, before my old man got it I had no idea how god drat debilitating it can be. He's fine now, got lucky ( not hugely lucky though because it came back a few months after it subsided and they can only give you the vaccine after 12 months of being clear), but holy poo poo is it an absolute bitch of a thing and it did a real number on him for months. I set a calendar reminder for the fuckin moment i turn 50 to get the shot because I don't want any part of that.

Okay, this put the fear of god into me so I looked it up and you need to be 50 to get the vaccine.

Setting a reminder in my phone right now.

I moved to Sydney in late 1994 and it wasn't on the schedule then. There was a really bad chickenpox outbreak after we moved here which affected staff and students alike at schools and day care centres. I remember being surprised so many adults were infected and wondering how they'd managed to avoid getting it as children.

Oh you guys didn't get to go for a playdate organised by your parents to intentionally get you infected with chickpox?

I've got real fun memories of having a bath and then getting slathered in calamine lotion for like a week straight, and I also remember having some random neighbourhood kids coming over to our house as well.

I didn't catch chickenpox until I was about 15 and it was so bad I had to take a fortnight off school. The itch was so intense I felt like I was going crazy and I've still got some scars twenty five years later.

Sure, it wasn't life threatening but I can't wrap my head around the idea that there's parents out there who would rather have their kids have to go through that than have them get a vaccine.

My mum brought my brother and me to a Wiggles concert in like 91 or 92 where the kids were encouraged to be in dress up, which was good because both of us were covered in chickenpox so she put us in full body batman and vampire costumes with capes and masks we weren't allowed to take off. Sorry if you caught chickenpox from that concert I was like 5 and had no say
