I think if your talking about a team formed for the expectation that they just might encounter AFO, it's the least you can do to assume they can handle a little casual bombing. They'll be fine.

I doubt any of the heroes were actually hurt by that, the recording started playing as soon as Deku and Endeavor walked in the door, so not everyone was even in the building yet when it went off. It was just another way for All For One to gently caress with Deku, which seems to be his main goal for the time being.

Channeling some Thanos and Twice here and it's making me think that O'Clock II doesn't really have a lot of originality.

And I mean in an intentional way, dude started off as formless blob and jamming down information from TV, he's been trying to create an identity for himself and now here he is with someone else's quirk and name, invoking villians more popular than him in a meta sense.

He's becoming the ultimate knock off is what I'm getting at here.

So his jumpsuit is part of his morphing power, meaning he’s actually naked.

Also it’s clear now that the O’Clock he’s talking to isn’t a quirk ghost, he’s just nuts.

Frankly, I don't like you
and I never have.
I've brought it up before so I should say, I don't think that the O'clock ghost is a "real" vestige talking to Two O'clock in the same way the One for All vestiges are, with its own independent consciousness. That is a phenomenon that's arisen because of the quirk being passed around for generations and katamari-ing up a bunch of previous users as far as I remember. But All for One says that he's become aware of the presence of elements of the people he takes quirks from present in himself and has noticed them turning up in other people. I think that the ghost O'clock is like a combination of this, normally subtle and subconscious phenomenon, mixed with 6 being bugfuck nutso.

The mental projection, that he's created out of his own broken brain, probably has a little bit of the actual thought process, intellect and experience of the actual O'clock in there as a spice, making it seem even more real to number six, is what I'm thinking.

Words.

Sure, but it's not that out of line with how governments work now. If someone is planning a terrorist attack and they're found out before they can execute that plan, you can bet nobody involved is going to wait for them to actually do the crime before arresting them. I don't think Nagant was out there killing bank robbers or car jackers - the government was sending her after people they considered threats to the foundations of hero society. The Hero Commission decided these were threats worth acting upon and the question we don't have an answer to - the question that Nagant doesn't have an answer to and which drove her mad - was that we simply don't know if they were right or not.

They're absolutely still the bad guys because even if every threat they ever sent Nagant or Hawks on a mission to stop was genuine, they're still extrajudicial killings with no one checking their behavior. But I wouldn't call it 'cartoonishly evil' because frankly it's all too realistic.

I mean, in real life you have stuff like this where the government literally encourages people to do terrible crimes and helps them plan said crimes - https://www.cnn.com/2017/11/29/politics/aby-rayyan-fbi-terror-sting-pizza-man/index.html (the guy in this case actively resists and pushes back against the FBI person posing as his jihadi internet girlfriend, but said FBI girlfriend just keeps trying to pressure him into doing a mass murder, it's completely insane)

Kouichi is such a good boy.

Calling the shot. Koichi saw Two O'Clock outside, and abandoned the plan to come down to try to talk him down peacefully. That's going to fail, because the dude is loving nuts, and it's going to look like Koichi hosed everything up... except he thirty-five minutes ago'd it, and he already found a clever way to get the word out to All Might.

aNYWAY,
tHAT'S REALLY ALL THERE IS,
tO REPORT ON THE SUBJECT,
oF ME GETTING HURT,

This whole sequence with Deku and Nagant feels like a bit of a dead end. Nagant herself is at the very least badly injured, possibly dead, and while she provided more background on the Hero Commission that's still a back-burner issue right now. This explosion at the mansion might be the start of a big ambush sequence but I could also believe AFO's just leaving it at the explosion and Deku and company will walk away with just a few bruises.

I guess they got their hands on Overhaul, who could maybe turn out to be useful down the line, but I don't see an obvious next step. I'm kinda hoping we can maybe catch a breath, check in with some other characters, and get a sense of where things stand - it's been non-stop Deku action since the little time-skip.

I just realised while re-reading from where the anime is up to, but the mansion featured in this chapter is the same one the League of Villains cleared out at the start of MVA (Ch. 220). Cool timing that it reappears in the manga within a couple of weeks of first appearing in the anime!

I guess, she is technically still alive, and will "just" remain in critical condition until the epilogue rolls out, where she will recover for an extra bit of happy ending or something, but still, it seems pretty obvious that the plot is done with Lady Nagant and I can't help but feel she was pretty much wasted.

The bit at the end with AfO's trap and him doing the whole "ironic twisting of All Mights phrases" bit again was kinda cool, but for me, the way the story got there undermined the impact quite a bit.

that last page is just loving great. i'm glad to see afo is keeping up his levels of mocking douchebaggery even after all that time spent cooped up in tartarus. also hilarious that hawks managed to hang on to some hope and idealism while doing amoral wetwork by looking up to a horrific domestic abuser. what a fairy tale story

vigilantes

it occurs to me that throughout the series, the main effect of kouichi quirk has been annoying people, and even with all of his powering up that's still essentially what he's doing.

also, this chapter is really highlighting some of the perils of doing a prequel story. it starts stretching the bounds of suspension of disbelief that tsukauchi and all might encountered a villain who has multiple quirks, including a quirk that appears identical to that of a hero who went missing (and at least one detective knew was stripped of his powers), and an army of experimental zombie quirk soldiers and then a few years later they're blind sided by the nomu at usj and the fact that afo is pulling the strings behind everything

To be fair it's more like Hawks and his undying optimism is motivating Nagant. I do think Nagant didn't really have much to offer the story overall, though. We already know hero society was kinda hosed and she just threw in some specific examples. I feel like the story's been trying to push the "hero society has been just as bad as OFA!" angle but it's hard to even get close to there after all of his cartoonish villainy
