So you're saying people would have FOMO if deep dives had some minerals in them like every other mission ?

I like the tension between cleaning out dangerous caves and gtfo as fast as possible, it's part of the core gameplay. Finding those mineral veins you need to craft your next overclock is exciting too, so deep dives feel a bit boring in that regard.

New Elite Deep Dive concept: You can vote at the end of each mission to either bail and keep what you found, or keep going deeper with increasing difficulty. No depth limit, add a public leaderboard for tryhards.

i think there's just a nebulous "q3 2021" pitch at the moment from the roadmap update they gave at the end of february:

Honestly I'm extremely happy about it. They previewed a Heavy Mining Laser as one of the options for new weapons and I fully expected it to be the weapon that got released for the Engineer. Instead it's this thing, which means the heavy mining laser may still be in the cards for the Driller!

from the way the tweet is phrased (specifying "final primary weapon") they might also be trying to get a new secondary in for each class by the time of the update too, although i wouldn't be overly shocked or chagrinned if that wasn't the case

I wasn't too thrilled about the driller weapon until I realized you can probably use it to just hilariously SHUT DOWN a choke point... which the driller can build.

Yeah, it's niche, probably not going to be great for Eliminations or solid/liquid Morkite, but a lot of driller builds are a little niche by mission type already so whatever.

Yeah, idk what the deal is, but liquid morkite missions are my favorite for sure.

Eggs and aquarqs are too similar imo, but they're fine. Both the people I play with were leveling engineers this weekend, so we did scout + 2 engineer crew, which made eggs and aquarqs pretty easy. Elimination is my least favorite as driller, but we did a few where I was a scout and it was much better. I think of mining expeditions as the baseline mission.

raverrn posted:

I said something about not being too excited about it and the guys I was playing with kind of talked me into it. Still not super stoked, but there are definitely ways it could be done right. It does fit in the theme of elemental/status guns, and both of the other two are done well.

You can already do this with the Sticky Fuel OC and it loving rules. Having a weapon dedicated to that function instead of an OC conversion is going to be real good.

Yes, it's the best. Every other mission type really only has one way to solve it, but with the pipes you can get creative and build some wacky poo poo if you feel like it. Even if you don't feel like building huge roller coasters, building the pipes usually requires a lot more creative thinking.

As for worst mission types, escort duties can eat a dick. They're not even that hard, just boring.

The worst part of the escort missions is people refusing to give you any time to collect nitra, so you have to do the whole thing with no reloads or abandon the drill mid wave to try and go combat mine. Or you grab just enough for one call in and some jackass calls it in out in the middle of nowhere rather than at the point near a heartstone.

It's the easiest one to troll out of impatience rather than sheer malice.

Tbh the worst mission is just normal mining. The pace is just off and slow. Eggs can be too but you at least get the chaos factor of a pub who scoops like 3 eggs at the same time.

like yeah you have to run backwards through the entire level to get to the drop pod but you only have to do that once. as opposed to familiarizing yourself with the level because you were plopped in the middle of it and then surrounded by objectives

All that, plus the pipesurfing mechanic owns and is just fun to do. You can try to do, like, trick shots and fancy dismounts and stuff and it's just really satisfying to zip around with no effort.

That's definitely a positive I enjoy for those too. I don't really like backtracking at all, plus it just makes it so much more likely that your group will get completely separated

Aquarq is a really good mission type, large central cavern with a gun platform in the middle and you are in a rush to explore multiple levels and side passages and bring the Aquarq back before the waves drain your resources and become too frequent to handle.

With a slow team or one that isn't good at dealing with hordes you can get into some finish by the skin of your teeth moments as you get the last aquarq in between hordes and just survive until the ship arrives.

The big laser may still be an engie secondary, since his secondaries are his more powerful weapons in general.
