Motorpool Mondays with tracked vehicles become Motorpool Weeks and I am being 100% serious when I say it probably contributes to the high suicide rate in the military, even if only marginally.

It’s completely miserable at all times.

You might think “OH THATS SO COOL I GET TO WORK ON A TANK!!”

No, motherfucker, it’s nothing like you want it to be.

At least with wheeled vehicles it was just Motorpool Mondays (in my experience).

This was actually VW's initial solution for the first gen models. I think the spare tire design was mainly used in Eastern bloc countries. If the Hilux is the AK-47 of cars the Beatle is more akin to the Sten. Easy to mass produce with limited production means.

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far.

The Beetle is quite old, both in design and likely in the date of manufacture of the one in the story.

It was air‐cooled, built to a brutal budget, and run at a large fraction of its total power (versus a modern car that accelerate uphill on the interstate).

So mostly just confirmation bias that old-rear end cars keep flaming up because they are old and rear end, got it.

Speaking of cars, this is what happens when you leave yours in a Dallas parking garage for multiple years. It's like Where's Waldo but with dicks:

I think it was a Gremlin. Might have been the Nova.

Dad used beer for bong water and spilled it in that car. If you spill beer bong water in your car, it's going to stink of bongy stale beer all the way to the junk yard.

Fantastic. Now I'm a supporter of cyclists but I have to say if your bike race is on tandem bikes you deserve at least a little bit of getting knocked over by the wind, just for the general stupidity of trying to race tandem bikes.

There's a phenomenon called Bora in Trieste that has winds of 200 kmph and more. All the larger signs in the city have holes so they don't get destroyed every time.

It's stil a sight to see.

With some practice you can just fall forward into the wind and essentially hang in mid-air.

There'll be plenty of notice. Nothing will be done about it, but the notice has already been out there for like 100 years now.
