They kind of had to make her an all-rounder because she’s the only controllable character for this part of the game.

I wonder if/how they’ll rework her if they bring her into the main party later on.

Can you give any tips? I am still getting used to Yuffie, I am replaying chapter 2 on hard again and I think I have the combos down but I play too aggressive. Are you using the precision shields? That's one thing I think I need to use on hard, also what weapon did you use mainly?

I slept on brumal form until it came time to unlock the weapo proficiency and started using it and yeah as soon as I realized what it was it immediately went into a shortcut.

Ya brumal form is insane, all her weapon proficiency bonus abilities are great. I wish the dlc was out for all the ps4 peeps but I feel like Yuffie's combat at 30 would have felt really bad especially with more timing abilities like brumal form + her precision shields. It still doesn't make sense though that a dlc is next gen exclusive but maybe thats what they were thinking?

Something I haven't seen anyone post is that Intergrade retroactively patches in Limit breaks to give you damage immunity during the animation

Which is a HUGE buff to survivability. I tend to save Cross Slash for example, as a way to just absorb a ton of damage instantly

I think I stuck with boomerang since it increases magic the most. Stick with ninjutsu as much as possible, as you can keep your distance, damaging the enemy constantly. Let Sonon and his Steadfast Block take the brunt of attacks. Equip Parry and use it liberally - I never found myself blocking. Obviously keep Chakra and Prayer on, Prayer can heal a good 2-3k on use - I kept Chakra on Yuffie and prayer on Sonon, then just never used his abilities so that I always had that prayer ready. I also never used Brumal Form, I never found that I needed it.

For a quick burst of damage, use Windstorm when youve thrown your shuriken at an enemy, it does a surprisingly large chunk of damage and can hit multiple targets.

Use Ninjutsu and take advantage of stuff that makes it better. Always have an Element up if the enemy has a weakness. Get used to keeping track of whether you're in melee or ranged mode and switching between them. Decide between either equipping the Boomerang and going all in on ranged or sticking to the Four-Point and mixing it up. I prefer the mixed version, because Art of War is a lovely utilitarian damage dealer and great to stick on the end of a combo.

Yuffie is quite good at controlling her own position relative to an enemy. In melee mode, holding the attack button does a nice powerful kick that propels her directly away from the targeted enemy. In ranged mode using Retrieve brings you right to the enemy, usually in mid-air, and right into a melee combo. A fun style mixer is to hit with a ninjutsu combo, retrive-kick the enemy in the face, follow with a melee combo and end it with the distancer-kick to get back out.

Brumal Form needs to be on a shortcut. It lasts a decent amount of time so try and pre-empt attacks with it instead of perfectly timing it. If you land it correctly it'll refund your ATB and then some. You can chain it into itself. You'll know it worked if a popup reading "Poof!" appears instead of a damage number. Precision Guard is a little riskier but if you can pull it off completely negates one hit for free and gives you a bonus buff depending on your weapon.

Don't forget about Windstorm. In ranged mode, Windstorm sends out a very wide shot directly towards wherever your weapon is, and can easily hit a lot of targets for a lot of damage (this will also automatically retrieve your weapon). In melee mode, it creates a damage field around Yuffie that can launch and juggle enemies.

Yuffie is also very good at juggling. Melee Windstorm and her Deadly Dodge all lift small enemies, and ninjutsu is very good at keeping them in the air. Enemies are pressured while juggling.

Make good use of Banishment. Try to use it as soon as it's charged up, unless you're about to stagger someone. At full power it's your best single hit and also hits in an area (remember that for Whack-A-Box).

Sonon is good to make your caster if you need one, but you should mostly make do with only a Healing (possibly magnified) on him and Raise on Yuffie. His ATB is better spent on his own abilities, or by synergising when the opportunity arises. You can also use his Fighting Spirit ability to control his AI a little. Put Steadfast Block on him and he'll have a lot more ATB to play with than otherwise, since uncontrolled characters build gauge slower. His Twirling Lunge is your best stagger-builder, but it can be a tactical decision to save his ATB for the actual stagger phase (or put ATB Stagger on him and have it both ways).

The optimal way to handle a staggered enemy is to have Banishment fully charged up beforehand, immediately hit the enemy with Synergised Windstorm, which will build up the % a ton, and follow up with Lv3 Banishment for a Big Number. Synstorm does take a while though, so you might not have time for anything other than Banishment. If you don't think you can make Synstorm and Banishment work, just say gently caress it and hit them with two Arts of War and two Swirling Storms, or some Limits (Yuffie and Sonon only have Lv1 limits which charge quickly, so use 'em).

The Synergy materia has been quietly buffed in a patch. Put it on Sonon with a spell to get in some extra elemental or poison damage at no ATB or MP cost, though be mindful that if he's idle when you trigger it it will delay his next ability while he's casting, which might interfere with your timing plans.

The first time you meet Joe on the Gold Saucer, Cloud gets a flashback headache and you see a bunch of 2nd Place Awards.

The first time you race against Joe, you hear "ah-HAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA" and then Roche comes in his own chocobo (yellow, but just covered in gold), and kicks Joe and Teioh off the Gold Saucer. Then he asks Cloud to have this dance.

Thanks for the tips, made it to Nero with full mp almost using tips. I still hadn't figured her out yet but the ranged windstorm is clutch and the air juggle with square square > triangle x2 > square is great you can just get super high and avoid dmg from other enemies. I also made use of the precision block which can be huge in a fight and lets you go ham. I probably put parry as you said as well, the extra mobility is welcome. I got the trophies for Fort Condor and box challenges. Now I only gotta finish Nero and the VR missions.

Bahamut was the hardest fight in the dlc for me, far harder than the second and third battles in his arena challenge. Took me like 8 tries to take him down, then I beat the others on my first try.

Once my gf is done using the PS4 I'm going to boot up the main game and get through hard mode on that.

Because of trophies, you see.

There's enough SFM and assorted stuff hanging around Pornhub still that you could almost make a robust performer profile for the character. Eventually somebody will find a way to rip Yuffie's character model from the DLC and then it gets complicated.

Eh mine is the opposite, I am beating Bahamut consistently on the dlc but Ramuh kills me with his big aoe spell. Vs Bahamut if you just stay synergized and spam the aircombo you just stick to him and can brumal form to dodge everything he does in air. Just need Sonon to cast heal with magnify. Haven't made it to pride and joy but my wrist hurts after so many attempts, gonna take a break.

I feel like the vanilla secret boss should be easier for you since you breezed through this. Also the reward is really good, might be fun to replay a bit with Gotterdammerrung it's the most broken item in the game. I just have Weiss and Secretboss trophies left for the dlc.

It's pretty easy to make an EU account, redeem the upgrade with that then just play it on your normal account. If you buy the Yuffie DLC it'll have to be the EU version though.

Probably, but where stuff is being sent from and by who is so obfuscated now anyone who doesn't know to check the fine print could easily end up in that situation and Amazon gives no shits. There is lots of good tips in the previous page, I had similar issues and some folks here had good tips. Mainly I recommend being max lvl and using boomerang on Yuffie. You should have no issues, also know where the benches are so you don't heal when a bench is about to come up.

Btw I gave up on the secretboss and Weiss for now. I getting the secretboss in the main game was enough and finishing both in hard was also nice. I'll probably replay the whole game in a few months and try again, kinda burned out since I played it the whole game on hard not long ago.

I got him! Took a few more tries after but I got a good groove for the first two phases, used the hell out of Pray to conserve MP, the. Unloaded summon and limits in the final phase. And it almost wasn’t enough! I was in the red when my limit bar filled and I used it in a “well this kills you or you kill me” last play. Done with that and I got Yuffie to 50 with that.

Gonna need to take a step back and reorganize both character’s equipment and materia before taking on the VR mission. I gave it a go to see what it’s all about and it opens with Bahamut so I promptly said gently caress that and left.

Playing through Hard made me appreciate Yuffie even more. I’m in a tough spot where I would like to see the rest of the characters get this kind of flexibility but at the same time I understand why Yuffie has it in the first place. Doing the extra VR stuff with the main crew and being able to swap around characters as you fight is such a joy.

They did such a loving good job with the combat in this game.
