Yeah, I was going to say they're pretty much the only place anymore where you can have two people eat a regular meal and get out of there under $20. The weird thing is that in my area most restaurants have opened back up for dining in but the Steak n Shake I drive by every once in a while still is only doing take out and drive thru.

If it’s 1am and you want to sit at a table and order a meal then it’s Steak N’Shake or Waffle House. If you want someplace that’s open at 1am and is marginally clean then it’s well….just Steak N’Shake.

We had both Dennys and Village Inn as well as Flippers/Skippers or whatever you call it in Alaska. Also the finest greasy spoon in the PNW, the White Spot Cafe. Im actually surprised how few 24h diners there are in Seattle, like 5 Points.

Back when I worked at Blockbuster and would close we'd all go out as a group at the end of the night and eat Steak N Shake because it was there, IHOP, Waffle House, or Denny's and that was it. We never went to the last 2 options because someone always had a past experience with food poisoning. IHOP was just kind of dingy and poorly lit. I feel like today there are a lot more drive thru and 24 hour food options available which probably isn't helping Steak N Shake's core business model. Also I love shoestring fries.

around 20 years ago, the Quiznos in State College was almost entirely staffed by skinheads. I don't imagine that's the fault of the corporation, but I didn't go back to that location. side note: I first noticed this when I saw one of the employees working as a door bouncer. he had white laces in his combat boots. I'd only just learned about that as a signal, and it kinda hosed me up. I'd never seen a full skinhead iron/celtic-cross muscle-shirt shithead jamboree in person before. I was talking with my friends about it, and one of them (black, butch, lesbian) said, "oh, that's Jeremy. he's just confused. he won't talk to me when his girlfriend is there, but he's friendly otherwise."

IHOP's a place where I have to imagine the greater availability of all-day breakfast(both in sit down places and in fast food) wrecked a lot of whatever appeal it had. I only had Stake and Shake once and it was just outside of Joshua Tree and it was pretty awful and took like 20 minutes even though there was no one in there or ahead of me in like. I did not get a shake which was my bad though. I might just not like steakburgers. I really like Freddys but all the other places that do that thing are gross to me.

They frequent fast food establishments a lot, apparently. A chili three way is simply a group encounter at a Tex-Mex restaurant. I believe there's even an app for it.
