So I hosed up and accidentally chose “Add to my existing order” when I had none while purchasing my items. I’m kinda blaming it partially on the site screwing up beyond my own stupidity. Their FAQ says if this happens, my order will get placed on hold and not shipped until resolved, but no indication on how to fix it. Any ideas on what to do? I’ve already emailed them explaining the issue so hopefully that will take care of it.

If there wasn’t anything super limited in your order like the book bundle, I’d try to cancel and redo it

Well, the problem is that I ordered Warriors of the Year 2072 and their FAQ says you can’t cancel an order that contains a brand new mid year sale item. So I’m kinda thinking I’m at their mercy on this, but I hope they’ll be reasonable about it.

Might take a few days for a response given it's sale time, but they've been responsive in the past. Emailing is about all u can do for now

Their site was open like five minutes before the sale started, but they had strict rules not to order anything until it starts or they would cancel yours, which they did to me last year. Of course the site broke immediately, I eventually just gave up and went to bed, as I have in-person meetings today at work and need my five hours of beauty sleep. My wife knew I was mad, and since she's a vampire who stays awake all night, so she kept trying and managed to get everything I wanted, only separately instead of via a bundle, and no book, although she then found it available at the publisher's website, in English, and bought that too. So she's amazing and I love her and I really hate Severin's website.

I grabbed Blood For Dracula UHD from Severin and that’s it. The Lenzi/Baker box was already sold out, which made me sad, and J couldn’t really get enthusiastic about anything else.

Kino Lorber has a much better sale right now, and Criterion sales about to hit, so I’m gonna bow out with that modest purchase.

I guess I'm getting soft, I've kind of stopped blind buying ultra-gory horror movies from these sales and started buying comedies, dramas and, er, adult features (yeah yeah, I know). I still watch gory movies from time to time, but I think the horrors of the past year and change have led me to branch out and try some less harsh entertainment. Plus it's good to have a nice balance.

I’m watching westerns, action flicks and martial arts flicks more than ever before probably for similar reasons. I’d rather blind buy an art film than a horror film these days, too.

I hadn't thought about it but other than the VinSyn drops, I haven't really been blind buying horror lately, and even the previous months VinSyn bundle was really light on the horror.

Hell, I snapped up all the Pink Panther and the rest of the DePage/Freleng cartoons, and I'm Gonna Get You Sucka from the Kino sale.

I probably should have waited for the Criterion sale to snag Zatoici, but I figured I didn't want to roll the dice on that one.

I get a lot of enjoyment out of the non-sexy scenes to be honest. Considering they're operating on low budgets, just looking at the sets, and what was ubiquitous at the time is really interesting to me.

A lot of "golden age" pornography started life as an earnest attempt to make a movie, but the sex scenes were added because it was how they got funding.

Ordered Willy Wonka UHD per Blu-Ray.com's review. Sounds like a substantial step up for the video, although the audio may have some flaws. Whatever, I just wanna watch some ridiculous colors with my man Gene Wilder. I've held off for a few years based on their review of the old BD, so I'm glad to be in this position.

I'd probably love Overboard, I've gotta see that. Kurt Russell just can't miss. Also I've gotta watch Captain Ron too, haven't seen that since I was a kid.

Hey, I've got a new complaint (like in that Nirvana song). The Criterion blu-ray of Mulholland Drive doesn't look great. There's this light colored grain even in daylight scenes that looks like noise, in the background of shots etc, and it feels like it changes "freqencies" a lot. It's like random storms of odd looking sandy stuff on the screen. Here's a reddit thread mentioning that grain thing as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/criterion/comments/4s6krc/mulholland_drive_disc_problem/

I'm pro-grain, I love the stuff, and the worst is waxy overly DNR'd stuff. I just don't know what's going on with this Mulholland disc though. It's distracting. And my TV settings are all good, no sharpness added or anything. I may have to go with a rip of the Studio Canal version, since I don't have a region player for that. Have the ol' DVD as well.

I do love the Criterion edition of Blue Velvet though, that looks dynamite. Also liked the previous blu-ray. No complaints about the Lost Highway blu-ray from KL. In general I think I have low standards for blu-ray, I just haven't encountered this particular annoyance before. Plus it's like 26 bucks discounted, you gotta get it right for 26 bucks.

Looking up my complaints, I also saw some rumblings of people noticing compression and various complaints with Criterion's authoring. Also I previously sent back those two Lynch discs and got replacements, which I don't do often, since there were little production issues like a bunch of nicked edges on the plastic and stuff like that. So just saying, their nutty prices and perhaps lower than their competition's video quality at times, I don't hold Criterion in a particularly high position in recent years. They're just another company coasting on their former glories. I'd prefer other companies get these licenses.

You fucker's fucker!
You fucker!
I noticed that problem with the Mulholland Dr disc too. It's like the compression algorithm resets every 2 seconds, causing random bright grain lines to flicker across the screen for half of the movie. It's super noticeable in dark scenes, and is so distracting that I can't watch the disc. I emailed Mulvaney about it and he said it might be due to TV sharpness/video presets, but mine is calibrated to film spec. If you pause, you can see that it's baked into the transfer, so its def a fuckup.

Yeah, this is absolutely Criterion's weak spot. They have a nasty habit of bad/too much compression. See also Kagemusha (ugh) and Fanny & Alexander TV cut. It's a drat shame.

Can now confirm that Putney Swope kicks rear end, and that GETEVEN has some really weird, almost David Lynchian moments but it otherwise full of long stretches of boredom and the most awkward "sex" ever shown on camera. Wings Hauser and his Native American mannequin friend stole the show.

I can vouch for Rappin' (1985) among those Shout sale titles, that's a good flick. Underrated fun gem that would sit on a shelf between Breakin' 2 and The Last Dragon, though not quite on their level. It's at least on par with Purple Rain, narratively. I just think Rappin' needs to be seen.

And always echo the love for Streets of Fire, and of course Eddie and the Cruisers.
