most of you in this thread have no edge and the difference in your results is just natural variance. if you aren’t working toward the specific goal of finding some kind of edge (that gives you a positive expectancy over the long run) then you’re wasting your time and money

usually when someone has edge they can tell you what kinds of setups tend to work for them, what kinds of stocks they trade (what do they have in common), what timeframe they trade on, and how they will know whether their trade thesis is confirmed or negated.

if you aren’t thinking about this stuff then either start doing so, consider quitting, or keep playing the slots because it’s fun and you don’t mind the cost

but if you want to make money then you’ll have to figure out an edge

Since the beginnings of the meme stock poo poo this thread has turned into "it's just fun money ha ha I don't actually try this is all just fun" thing where everyone's proudly losing smallish amounts of meaningless money. For the life of me I can't understand why anyone would invest time and energy in something like that but that's what people are into now. I've recommended just regular gambling if that's an itch that needs scratching, it seems like it'd be more fun to me.

Come on. I know y'all are holding out on a stock where I can get 5000 shares for less than a new Nintendo game. Don't hold out on me. They're going to break my legs. Please.

DPLS probably has legs to go farther on sentiment alone, but I don't really want to have any involvement in that field.

PHIL is probably a bust.

GYST is a trash stock (bitcoin mining), but the swings look pretty predictable.

NGPHF is a bit more expensive, but I think it has a good outlook in a needed field, and has regular swings you can count on. There's also LMRMF (lomiko.com) if you want a cheaper version, but that doesn't bounce as much.

I still have a little GSV for a longer hold; you can very easily buy at .55 and sell at .60 and up.

It sounds like what you should do is use a penny stock screener, and cross reference some random tickers with Stocktwits to see which have a lot of posts. The popular ones will at least have enough volatility you can ride a few bounces.

I will not claim to have an edge, but will 100% agree that people should try getting into holdem or something instead if they’re getting melted trying to play meme stocks.

In poker you can actually make mathematically sound decisions and play profitably(usually after a long time of losing) and it’s a more fun way to gamble and easier to learn. Posting in a thread like this saying “lol what do I buy Tuesday guys?” Just seems goofy to me. poo poo sometimes you’ll have a 3 month long swing for no reason and wind up +1000%!

Thanks for sharing this. I'm trying to learn stuff and this looks like a good way. What kind of data feeds do you use to analyze trends and look back at historical data? TC2000 looks good but it's a bit expensive for a newb I think, or is it really that good?

I could get something relatively cheap on IB in comparison at 6USD/month but I'm not sure it's as good? I looked at their app and I'm not sure it's as customizable, namely I couldn't manage to get the Average Daily Range which looks like an important metric.

Any other platform worth looking at?

IB has a solid reputation. I don’t use it but know lots who do

Thinkorswim has great charts that you can use for free, and their paper trading is good

TradingView is good and web-based. You can get a lot out of a free account. It has a user-created ADR indicator but you may not be able to use that with a free account—I can’t remember what the limitations are since I’ve been a paid user for years

Never used TC2000 so not sure what advantages it has over the others, but one thing I do know is that it has a built in scanner that is highly customizable and very useful.

Qullamaggie learned from stockbee https://stockbee.blogspot.com/?m=1 and I believe it’s stockbee who taught qullamaggie to use TC2000. He’s a big proponent of using customized scans to find top performing stocks and studying their charts to learn how to find the future top performers. If you look at his website or Twitter account you will see what I mean

With all this said, I have never seriously tried to learn the way those two trade. But I do admire them as traders and think their style is a good fit for people who are more disposed toward swing trading (vs intraday trading like I do)

Just set a sell order for my 200 shares of AHT to execute once the market opens. Avg cost was $5.60. Not the most expensive lesson but does not feel good to watch.

Think its time to gently caress off from meme stocks and instead look at some ETFs.

Edit: Of loving course the price jumps up a bit after the sell order executed.

For all those who have been stung by AHT, first off, examine why you (I) invested. For me it was plain greed, chasing momentum. The silver lining is that this loss will let me harvest some gains in other trades that have stalled. I can pull money out of those and diversify with no tax implications. It still sucks to take a loss, but now I'm more diversified.

One nice thing about options gambling is that I do expect some of my bets to go to zero, so my few $7.5 calls on AHT would have wound up being worthless at any price under $7.5. This makes a huge drop less painful because hovering around $5/$6 was just as bad as dropping to $2.
