Agree they should. Only thing that would impact me is if I can't visit my intimate partner who is a 7 minute drive away. I'd probably just end up moving their for the remaining lockdown though anyway.

When Melbourne was under strict lockdown with a 5km travel limit and a ban on people from other households visiting they carved out exceptions for intimate partners and compassionate care visits (caring for elderly relatives, etc)..
If Sydney does tighten their restrictions I'd expect similar exceptions, but on the other hand I wouldn't be shocked if they forget. I also won't be shocked when loads of anti-mask assholes abuse the loopholes to do whatever they want. :v:

Those are the sorts of exceptions we already have. Given how concerned they are and how the guidance on the NSW gov website has changed in the last couple of days, I wouldn't be surprised to see stuff like "one person only, the same person each time, and preferably outside contact only" get codified.

The fact that the LV shop in Bondi is open is the kind of poo poo which might see the government move to define "essential" retail.

Their problem is they can't just copy-paste Victoria's lockdown methodology because it's a Labour initiative, not to mention they spent the past year badmouthing the poo poo out of it. They're stuck trying to gradually get to the same place by making it look like they did so wholly on their own, Liberal, initiative.

Not to mention that the NSWGov is planning to iron fistfuck the south-western suburbs to enforce everything the eastern suburbs failed at, making it out to be a threat they are responsible for, guess which suburbs are ALP electorates and which are LNP?

I get the intent of the "don't leave your home unless you absolutely have to" messaging, but it's probably making the wrong people feel guilty. I have a surveillance CT scan booked for Monday and it would be a very bad idea to delay it until after lockdown (which could be months away), but I almost feel like I should.

Heck no, absolutely don't cancel that appointment. People delaying medical procedures has been a big issue all the way through the pandemic, just mask up well and you should be fine. Medical staff (especially dentists) have usually been really good throughout the pandemic with PPE usage and isolating patients from each other.

Of course if you turn up to the clinic and no one is wearing masks then turn around and walk right out .....

I was supposed to change medications for a chronic condition I have due to my risk factors increasing bigly but it's been delayed before the recent restrictions and I can't get the gamut of physical tests necessary beforehand done at my GP now because they're strictly telehealth until lockdown is over. Double suck due to the fact that what I'm switching to precludes me from getting any vaccine six weeks before or six weeks after the switch cause it decimates the immune system. I wonder if I should just forego any treatments for the meantime and hope for the best. Inbetweens of a rock and a hard place ahoy...?

This is absolutely true. There's no reason you should even consider missing an appointment like that, while people are going to JB Hi Fi or whatever. They're the ones who should feel bad.

A few people I've spoken to are seeing their romantic partners at each other's places and it's honestly kind of ticking me off. Last weekend it wouldn't have bothered me at all, I would've done the same, but now it just seems so much more serious.

This imaging place has kept their mandatory masks and no support people rules in place since the beginning of covid. They're more strict than the hospital has been.

I will be delaying my routine mammogram until lockdown has ended, though.

I'm okay with the intimate partners loophole just as long as it's limited to actual relationships and not random dating app hookups. If they banned intimate partner visits then people would just keep doing it but lie to cover it up, which would severely gently caress up the contact tracing process.

Realistically, and what they probably should be educating on in Sydney, the aim is to minimize your social bubble to as small as possible to limit infection vectors. Going to see your partner's fine if they're also socially distancing at home, because neither of you are going anywhere else. You have a stable bubble. The wheels fall off a little if you go past much more than that though, because you might "just" go see one mate, but that mate's doing the same with another of theirs and oops, infection chain. Especially if you live in a place with relatives or other mates doing the same. Panic-buying is real stupid, but realistically the safest way is to just stock up on some essentials and go shopping as infrequently as you can to minimize cross-infection at supermarkets and the like.

As for the rest, internet shopping.

Turns out the idiot Liberal base who believe everything they're told actually listened when they were told that Melbourne's lockdowns were dumb and pointless for an entire year, and now that's come back to bite the LNP in the rear end when they're told to do the thing that's supposedly dumb and pointless.
