One time a guy stole some downhill skis out of my jeep and I was so mad I punched a mailbox. I'm against crime, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
I’m going full MOTYC for Jon Moxley vs Karl Anderson. It was a great performance of suckering the crowd into a match and keeping them in throughout. Just watch how they get the crowd back into things after the. outside brawling of Kingston and Gallows. Two absolute masters. The near falls were great, and MGKA hasn’t looked better in a singles match in North America.

HM - Brian Cage vs Ricky Starks. Crowd was absolutely molten for this one too.

HM - Matt Hardy vs Christian. They’re older but so familiar with each other. I doubt they could put on a bad match.

HM - Darby Allin vs Ethan Page. Really good match here, if there was a bit more time and a bit more selling it would have been a MOTYC.

DDT Summer Vacation Tour July 15th
MOTYC
Chris Brookes (c) vs Shinya Aoki (c) - DDT Extreme & Iron Man Heavymetalweight Championships - No DQ, No Submission Match
- What a stipulation, everything is legal unless it's life threatening. Except submissions, all submisisons are illegal (like ref Matsui was even giving them the five count for armringers at the beginning :laffo:). Watching these two guys fumble about and still put on a compelling match without the vast majority of their offence was absolutely fascinating. I've said it before and i'll say it again, DDT at it's best is far beyond wrestling, it's art.

HM
Eruption (Saki Akai, Yukio Sakaguchi and Kazusada Higuchi) vs DisasterBox (HARASHIMA and Naomi Yoshimura) and Keigo Nakamura
- Eruption continue to be the goddamn coolest, Harashima and Yoshimura still hit like trucks, and poor Keigo Nakamura got the piss beaten out of him, as is his wont

Junretsu (Jun Akiyama, Makoto Oishi and Yusuke Okada) vs 37KAMIINA (Konosuke Takeshita, MAO and Shunma Katsumata)
- Those Sauna boys are loving superstars, considering the oldest guy is only 28 if they can stay healthy they could carry the company on their back for the next decade plus. Uncle Jun was pretty quiet here, but Oishi and particularly Okada were working real hard to make up for it.

This match is my match of the year as things stand. It follows on from the GAEAISM main event on 6/13 which was my match of the year when it happened. A lot of wrestlers will ignore the size differential between themselves and their opponents in order to get all their cool poo poo in making the match look like something out a video game which can be cool, but in this match these two really played up that Chihiro dwarfs Mio and it made Chihiro look a beast and Mio look incredible for dealing with her onslaught.

There were some truly sick bumps from Chihiro's Germans and an amazing armbar spot from Mio. Chihiro is a monster, Mio is a genius. If I gave star ratings, I'd give 5.

This is an entirely subjective and personal thing, and probably based on the fact that I've only heavily got back into wrestling since about 2017, but it really does feel like the amount of easily accessible genuinely great wrestling is expanding at an absurd rate.

Like, for a long time for US / UK fans there were two easily accessible wrestling products in the US: WWE and TNA, and while both of those were capable of from time to time putting on great shows, the week to week quality of the product was between average and bad. You could hunt down Ring Of Honor, but that was several steps beyond what most casual-to-moderate fans would do.

But since the rise of easily accessible online content it feels like people's exposure to genuinely great wrestling from around the world has really spiked, and with the advent of an American arena wrestling promotion that puts on consistently good shows, this has gone up even further. I don't know about anyone else but I've genuinely gone from hunting round for any good wrestling content to not knowing how to watch all the good wrestling content I have available.

This thread is I think evidence of this. Obviously this isn't in any way representative of the broader wrestling community but there really is a staggering amount of good wrestling that gets posted in here, and a staggering amount not just in quantity but in breadth. Five different companies have five or more match of the year candidates. Fifteen different companies (disregarding cyberfight and the Hana show) have put on at least one match that people thought was good enough to say it was a match of the year. Every time I log in I see a reference to an awesome sounding match I haven't watched yet.

I don't know if it's possible to say wrestling is better than it's ever been, but it's easier to watch the best wrestling than it's ever been.

Matches of the Year:
06/26 | Katsuhiko Nakajima vs. Masa Kitamiya in a Hair vs. Hair Cage Match - NOAH Cage War

This already has the required amount of votes, but I saw that some hero had uploaded the entire show to Youtube a few weeks ago, so I hope some people that wouldn't have otherwise take the opportunity to see what NOAH has to offer. Story leading up to the match is fairly simple, these two have been teaming on and off for nearly a decade and are the current tag team champions. Kitamiya (the beefy one) has left their stable claiming he has always hated Nakajima (the handsome one with the curly hair) but neither guy wants to let go of their half of the tag belts so they are having a hair vs hair match in a cage to settle the grudge. It's a no crowd show because NOAH is very weird about what shows get crowds but it really adds to the atmosphere that it's just two guys getting all their buds (the guys in red at ringside) and sorting poo poo out behind closed doors. Also they have a drone in the studio which allows for some real cool aerial shots.

This match solves nothing outside of one guy losing their hair. Both guys are back to beating the poo poo out of each other the very next day and it's glorious

This is loving hilarious & cool, aka NOAH_jr_HWs.txt. 10 men listed as entering, 15 actually take part. Huge dive trains in a match with over the top rope eliminations (they stuck to topes tho, except for a quebrada from Yoshioka & a meteora from the apron by YO-HEY). Quite a lot of fighting on the floor. And at the end it comes down to 2 former RATELS members.

NOAH Junior division often walks a line between entertaining bullshit & being a parody of itself, made even more frustrating because most of the individual parts are very good. This is firmly on the right side of that line.

Agreed, there is SO much great wrestling nowadays, and so much of it is so readily accessible. Like, I have seen barely anything from All Japan, Dragon Gate or Stardom just because they're not as easily accessible and there is so much else out there that is - New Japan, TJPW, NOAH, DDT etc - that I don't feel the impetus to do the extra work because I barely have enough time to watch as it is. AEW is of course knocking it out of the park, but there are plenty of American indies regularly putting on great matches too. We've reached the point where "only" being a good show with good wrestling isn't actually enough to stand out because there are so many great shows with great wrestling seemingly on all the time.

It's a really, really good problem to have.
