Good Times! is the twelfth studio album by American pop rock band the Monkees. Produced mainly by Adam Schlesinger (with some additional bonus tracks produced by Andrew Sandoval), the album was recorded to commemorate the band's 50th anniversary. It is the first Monkees studio album since Justus (1996), marking the longest gap between Monkees albums to date, and the first since the death of founding member Davy Jones. The album features surviving Monkees Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork, as well as a posthumous contribution from Jones. The album received generally positive reviews from music critics and reached number 14 on the Billboard 200, becoming the band's highest-charting album in 48 years.

In November 2019 an Iron Palm master threatened to break his arm in a fight, but apologized and backed down after Xu accepted and suggested putting 200,000 yuan on the outcome. However, other news outlets (e.g. SCMP) have reported that it was the other way around; rather than facing him in the octagon, the Iron Palm master settled on an apology to the Chinese MMA fighter. Of course, this is Wikipedia, so don't please don't take our word for it. Do your own research and you'll find the truth. But keep in mind, MMA (which combines the essence of traditional and modern kickboxing/grappling techniques in an efficient manner) vs traditional Chinese art typically yields the same outcome. [23]

i should mention, that's from the article about Xu Xiaodong, a fighter in china who goes around challenging kung fu hucksters. a self proclaimed "master" says they can defeat 300 challengers with their wushu mind powers, this guy calls them out, then they get in the ring and it's 30 seconds of a 40 year old MMA guy wailing on a 70 year old snake oil grifter

but some wiki nerd couldn't help themselves and had to go full :goonsay:

This legislation was introduced after one such product, branded as "Zannie" and marketed as an air freshener rapidly gained publicity as the subject of numerous media reports, attracting the attention of officials.[22] The ensuing investigation effort, led by Senator Fred Mills and Louisiana Poison Center Director Mark Ryan, positively identified the active ingredient of "Zannie" as phenazepam. According to Ryan, chemical analysis identified the active ingredient as "100 percent phenazepam".[21]

Domesticated hedgehogs can get their heads stuck in tubes (commonly, toilet paper tubes) and walk around with them on their heads. Owners often refer to this as "tubing" and promote the behavior by supplying lean tubes. Most owners are considerate enough, however, to cut the tubes lengthwise to prevent the hedgehog from remaining trapped against its will. Curiously, some hedgehogs still knowingly get themselves stuck for hours.[31]

Ok but see I've done some years of kung fu, and I've also seen a few of the videos in question, and the MMA guy was constantly leaving himself open to attack and the kung fu guy was constantly just doing absolutely loving nothing.

He missed like a dozen takedowns, maybe like 20+ points where the guy just left himself completely open. Every single punch the MMA guy threw was off-balance and could have been turned into an arm lock or a takedown. The kung fu guy had multiple opportunities to break the guy's arm or just do a takedown and slap him on the temples hard and that would very literally be the end of his career. I have absolutely no doubt that the entire thing was rigged because I have no idea how anyone who had done any amount of kung fu could be that incompetent.

What's funny is that a lot of MMA relies on you getting on the floor with your opponent and grappling them. If this is outside a bar and his buddies decide to come out they could just kick your head in while you're preoccupied and that would be the end of it. And because it's hyper-focused on attack it just means you just get charged for assault. Compare with gong fu where you're never supposed to get down on the floor with your opponent (because it's rightfully treated as a terrible, bad thing to do), and it gives you the skills to just endlessly shift your opponent around with barely any work and just tire the person out with very little injury, while still being able to take things further if it becomes a life-or-death type thing.

But MMA is cool because beating the poo poo outta people is cool, I guess.

MMA is the way it is because it's hyperfocused on a 1v1 in the ring scenario, and it's hyperfocused on that because that's the only situation in which you're ever gonna use it. Literally the whole point of "mixed martial arts" is to do whatever it takes to win in the octagon rather than focusing on one particular school or theory.

It should not be a surprise to anyone that it doesn't care very much about what you should do in 6v1 bar brawls or whatever.

Right, but everyone I know who is into MMA has touted it as "better than all other fighting styles" when not only is that a blatant lie (Like I said, I've yet to see a fighting video that didn't look rigged as hell), but one that doesn't take into account the fact that 90%+ of people actually taking these fighting classes are never going to use it in the situation that MMA is designed for, and are probably just generally doing it recreationally or to feel more secure in themselves.

But my guess is the same people that approach it are the ones who used to get into kickboxing and karate back in the day just so they could hold it over other people as some weird kind of threat.
