It's not a treatment so much as they've tried everything and now you aren't getting enough oxygen so we're going to put in a tube to breath for you and pray your body sorts things out cause that's the only cure at that point.

It’s like if the garden of eden remained open to human occupation and we installed a bunch of fast food franchises and set half of it on fire every few years. It was a beautiful place to grow up, but nobody should attempt to make somebody else grow up there.

It's uncommon to be sedated during a colonoscopy in many other countries outside of North America. Most of my colonoscopies have not been sedated. It's uncomfortable but not particularly painful.
