Have 3 people sing Romeos Ballad to stop him and have the 4th sing the speed song, let that go for a minute and then two singers can lock him down while you buff yourself with mix and/or another song

Just under the wire, squeezing in a single Neo Exdeath kill with a single CHAOS! White Mage/Berserker/Ranger/Chemist takes a really long time to get going, but it just blasts through World 3 and the Void bosses between Rapid Fire Chicken Knife, Rune Axe Berserker with a magic sub-command, Sage Staff boosted Holy, and Mix, the last portion of the game was a real breeze

Doom Goon posted:GBA Randomizer Decided not to wait until next year to donate since I got somebody to play it! They had a weak party w/ low synergy (I think it was Ranger, Dancer, a Blue Mage they skipped many good spells for, and a Thief) but still seemed to enjoy it thankfully. Pretty happy with this year honestly! Can't get a more gimmicky Blue Mage triple crown w/o TASing really so that's that off my list. It felt nice doing it on hardware. A good amount of runs down and I never thought I'd ever play any of the Final Fantasy games I wasn't familiar with so that was pretty cool. For the future: Last I heard RK talked about FF3 a couple weeks ago but was worried because FF3 has harsher requirements for jobs that are required to proceed iirc. And they hinted about something for the FFV pixel version about that same time. I also did some more memory editing for fun this year and thought it might be nice to start a real LUA script. Well, after a nice long break I think!

First time doing more than 1 run since 2017. Happy they were all triple crowns too, though it would’ve been hard for them not to be.

If you didn't resort to quick-leaking, Omega with any non-bard/chemist(/beastmaster on GBA) party is touch and go. Especially if your only offense is reflected Thundagas and Monk Crits. (I know the answer is that you resorted to quickleaking on that run, don't worry)

Tbf that team also has white mage, at that point I think you just try to do it legit. As long as you don't get super unlucky with encircles it should be fairly smooth sailing.

The absurd amount of life, creativity, and strategies emerging for FF4 Free Enterprise and it's years of development and races is grounds enough for an easy challenge based on a rando seed rather than trying to figure out how to limit the vanilla game, and since a run generally can get done within 3 or 4 hours it's probably the best thing after three solid 'play entire RPG' challenges in a row.

FF2 and FF13 are good though. Not as good as FF9 but I mean, the only truly BAD game in the series is FF15. OG FF2 and FF3DS notwithstanding

The FF6 challenge wasn't bad, pick 4 random party members and try and use them exclusively... except for the long stretches of plot where you might not have your characters (Mog, Umaro, Gogo?). That game kind of works with the fiesta format if you squint hard. With roms and mods things would open up immensely for many of the titles but RK doesn't seem like a big fan of tools in general. I'm sure some of the modded neo ex cactuar victory submissions elicit a smile though.

What's the best way to see how many times my toxx was quoted in the thread to figure out how much to donate? I also managed to have an unfinished last run even though I had probably over a month to finish it and I was already in the dimension with Shinryu and NED. FF4 never ends without an unfinished run

One of RK's consistent Loudly Vocal opinions is that he's pretty staunchly anti-piracy. He tolerates all the emulation/hacking because it's for charity and on the honor system but asking him to make a challenge based on what is at is base a romhack would just get you laughed out of and/or banned from the official FJF subreddit.

I'm still confused why the reason III was skipped was because it had little party customization just to play IV which has absolutely none. I haven't played FFIV in a large while (sheesh, 2 decades?) but I came away somewhat mixed. It wasn't bad by any means but I think this'll be one that will kind of fade away for me pretty quickly. I think it reminded me more of the NES FF games if I'm being honest than V/VI (especially with how some of the battles were crammed). I know people absolutely love the story but whenever somebody died or mind control came up I let out a little sigh. Oh, and I played the NDS version because it's supposedly more strategic (and there's some extra stuff but it's Matrix stuff and not even dungeons this time, some of which changes in the mobile version) but, wow, even with 3x-4x speed that game is S-L-O-W. And it has framerate issues that eats inputs too! I didn't beat the final NG+ superboss in time but I will in probably the next session. I got super close a bunch of times but it's a really bad damage race at the end that I can't do anything about w/o the rest of the levels, getting some extremely rare equipment, or beating the game again to get an Augment so my damage isn't limited. I probably wouldn't have to do even that if it just had a warning move before it started its unmitigatable party insta-kill attacks and you didn't have to manually keep track of HP to know when it starts. Anyone else do it? I'm hoping FFV is next, hyuck hyuck.

I mean, I'm going to be real the current most accessible versions of 3 are just not fun due to having badly done rebalancing and even the good version of 3 (NES) goes to no-fun hell in the final dungeon (no more customization, only surviving endless beams). Basically all its good mechanical ideas got revisited in 5, so it's reasonable for a site mostly dedicated to 5 to give it a skip. (Also, until recently the pixel remaster of 3 was really unstable when played for long sessions which a challenge like this would encourage (this seems to have been fixed with a patch, though the actual balance of it is still super hosed compared to NES for various reasons); I don't know if this was widely known at the time, though.)
