Before rushing to pass laws against using kids to mine coal from the narrowest tunnels, we should wait until science can tell us whether they inherited the coal-mining gene from their parents.

Genetic left: The Romanov children were born with tyranny in their genes. Shooting them all before it fully expressed itself was the moral thing to do - for both those who they would try to shackle once more, and for children themselves, who if they failed would live a life devoid of the joy of domination.

How does the "Word Gap" account for immigrant communities where more than one language is spoken? Does someone who speaks 3 languages get triple language XP to level up to bachelors degree? What gene will make me roll my r's? These are the questions of our time.

I've now actually read the New Yorker article about the genetics lady and, if nothing else, she certainly excels at self-publicity!An extremely sympathetic reporter posted:Harden, who has moss-colored eyes, a wry smile, and an earnest nonchalance, met me at a coffee shop that looked as though it had been airlifted that morning from San Francisco. She wore a soft flannel shirt, faded stone-washed jeans, and dark Ray-Ban sunglasses. The air was hot and dry, but Harden is the sort of person who seems accompanied by a perpetual breeze.

Fun fact about the "30 million word vocabulary gap" that is the basis of the framing of that article, and libs love to talk about: It comes from a single study of 42 families in the 1990s.

is this the onion; “If you had said on 9/12 that we’d have only 100 people killed by jihadi terrorism and only one foreign terrorist attack in the United States over the next 20 years, you’d have been laughed out of the room,” said Daniel Benjamin, the State Department’s coordinator for counterterrorism in the Obama administration. “The fact that it had to be accompanied by two wars makes it hard for people to disaggregate how successful counterterrorism policies have been,” said Mr. Benjamin, now the president of the American Academy in Berlin. ........ The melting away of the American-trained Afghan Army in the face of the Taliban’s advance has cast a shadow over the concept of working with local partners, as did the wholesale retreat of Iraqi troops from Islamic State fighters, who briefly succeeded in establishing a caliphate over much of Iraq and Syria in 2014 and organized terrorist networks in Europe. But there are other examples where the United States, with more realistic ambitions and limited goals, has been able to forge fruitful partnerships with local militias. Syrian Kurdish fighters, aided by American troops, evicted the Islamic State from Syria, while Libyan militias, helped by American airstrikes, uprooted ISIS fighters from their base in the Libyan city of Sirte.
