https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=894UWkW5eH8 Molchat Doma - Utonut' A lot of their stuff is good if overly affected. Utonut' comes across as their most genuine which feels ironic given how synth driven it is in comparison to a lot of their other songs.

A few days ago I was flipping through the rock channels on Sirius XM, and was listening to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NP9iOqdxS8c Moody Blues song, and I was like "Hey, I really like this song. In fact, it sounds very familiar, I bet my dad had this album when I was a kid." It's funny, I like classic rock pretty well and as an adult will happily listen to songs that came out way back when my dad was like, 20 (1975), but I can't imagine him or my mom ever listening to music from when their parents were 20 years old. I don't know if it's because I just like nostalgia, or if there was a greater generational music difference then. Personally I know I find anything prior to the mid-60s to be pretty much unlisten-able.

Gradually making my way through the new Beach Boys box set. It's mostly stuff from the Sunflower and Surf's Up albums, a lot of it vocal or backing tracks. A lot of these sets have been released for various Beach Boys albums. They're very well done and the sets have featured a few demos and essentially completed songs that had never seen the light of day. This one has some gems: Sweet and Bitter, My Solution, the original cut of Big Sur. The long-rumored alternate version of 'Til I Die, with slightly happier lyrics, but a pained and/or disinterested Brian Wilson singing them. And Awake, featuring Wilson and a piano. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUR5XXVxY3Y A week or so later, Wilson's side project, American Spring (featuring his then wife and her sisters), recorded it for their album. I'm assuming Wilson cut this demo as a guide for them or was still fooling around with how he wanted it to sound. It may be the last glorious Brian Wilson falsetto. During the next 2-3 years, he intentionally damaged it. He'd never been comfortable with the falsetto and heavily smoked to deepen his voice. The whole box set is a bit sad in general if you know what's coming from this, the end of 1971.
