Normally at this point in the tournament you can rely on Takumi Iroha & Syuri to smash it out of the park, but on this show they were stuck with weak opponents (Ruaka & Unagi Sayaka respectively). So it was up to Tam & the (I think) often overlooked AZM to have the match of the show.

Pro Wrestling NOAH The Universal Volume 1
Kongo (Katsuhiko Nakajima & Kenoh) vs Naomichi Marufuji & Takashi Sugiura

On paper this is not a particularly important match. It's a show aimed at the western fanbase in front of zero fans, so there's a handful of tag matches on the undercard matches, 2 matches from Mexico (one from IWRG, one from Syndicate) & then this. But honestly this might be my top NOAH match for 2021 so far. It's just 4 of their top guys with a lot of history together beating the piss out of each other & was a match that I didn't want to look away from for more than a second less I miss someone getting kicked hard enough to make me wince. Not that that takes much, I'm a loving wimp. And the English language commentary really adds to it, Fulton & Pickering are a great pair & I should really watch them more. By default now I just go to the Japanese commentary without thinking, but this reminded me how much I enjoy them as a pairing (& have done since first seeing them on a Pancrase show years ago). The highest praise I can give this is it just reminded me of 2020 NOAH more than anything else I've seen from them this year.

It's over 20 years doing this and somehow he can not only still walk, he can wrestle at a very high level

Surprisingly enough O-Khan turns out to be an excellent technical wrestler which made this into a true masterclass in grapplefuckery. Also ZSJ continues to be the best guy in the G1 so far in what's shaping up to be one hell of a run.

Nth. I should be able to fill in on some of the other matches next week while I�m traveling. People have to stop scheduling film festivals opposite the G1, this is problematic.
